They had 100 seconds left and they had 2 timeouts. They were on GB 11 yard line with only needing 2 yards for 1st down . It wasn't like there was only 3 seconds left with no TO and they needed to go 10 yards. There was no need to panic and pass at that point in the game.
You can beat that rationale into someone's head 5000 times but some just aren't going to get it.

You want to play what if? What if instead of us having to challenge the 4th and 1 spot the refs get it right and we don't have to run a play before the two minute warning.

What if the refs see the play clock hit 0 before GB snaps the ball on their drive to take the lead?

What if Williams does not do a Roberto Duran impression?
What if we went into the bye week 2-3 with a shrinking possibility of making the playoffs due to serially dumb coaching? Oh wait!

You have to risk not scoring and running some of the time off the clock because you can't score and then hope your defense can keep Rogers from scoring and when they left him over one minute he was able to score the touchdown not a Tying field goal .
actually the better thing rather than run out at the 1-inch line would be to just go down in side the one that way the clock keeps running.
I think Green Bay only had one timeout so if anything we get them to use their time out and then we would have 3 plays cuz that would have been a first down we would have had three plays to score from the inside the one and that's a risk I would be willing to take.

Ok but if we ran zeke on 2nd down that chews 30-40 seconds off the clock. So even if Dak scores on the next play ( if we had ran zeke on 2nd down) that keeps the clock going. We gave GB an extra TO with the incompletion. It’s a difference of GB getting the ball back with around 35 seconds left instead of 1:13.
I just don't get what they aren't getting. Run the dive again to Zeke with 2nd & 1 and you end up with four fresh downs around the 10 yard line. GB has to use their last timeout. Then you run clock. You do NOT under any circumstance give Aaron Freaking Rodgers the ball back with a timeout and enough tire to work his magic. You just don't. Period. You play the probabilities. It is more probable that you score using the strategy I just outlined and leave just enough time on the clock to piss Aaron off....

I didn't say that was the goal. Goal is to score but if the run play failed to score, the worst thing would be getting closer to new set of downs and it still keeps the clock running. For a pass play, if it failed, it stops the clock and we are no closer to getting a first down.

We didn't need to panic at that point. It wasn't like 4th down on their 15 yard line where you had to pass.
Right....

Again, let's talk situational awareness 101 again.

If you pass there and it's incomplete, you have in essence given them another timeout.

If you run there, the possibility of giving them another timeout does not exist.

The smart thing for GB to do was insure OT and stop throwing once they got close enough, Lewis almost picked off the pass before the TD. I wonder if GB fans would be *****ing like this if we got a turnover while they were trying to win the game?

This is what Jason Garrett would be thinking!

This is like in the Arizona game where he iced
Bailey and we left timeouts in our pocket, he said “a lot of bad things can happen there.”

Or like against Baltimore where he did the same thing, this time trotting our Bailey to kick a 50 yarder on the road and not using his timeouts.

Or like when we lost to the Patriots when we were goal to go and Garrett kept running even though it wasn’t working at all, and even though Romo had thrown for 300 yards, we kept running because Garrett didn’t want to make a bad play at the end—and so we gave the ball to Tom Brady who marched right down the field against our defense to win it.

I mean there are even more than this!!’

I don't recall all of them but I bet money you could make a whole thread full of bullets outlining the coaching staff's situational blunders over the years.

It was a dumb call.

They spent the entire drive playing slow to eat as much clock as possible to not give Rodgers time. A lot of runs, short passes, milking the play clock.

Then inexplicably they decide to throw a high risk fade on 2nd and 2 from the 11 or so?

Another of a hundred of examples of this coaching staff out thinking themselves.

Again. Great observation. It was so out of character in relation to the strategy they were utilizing on that drive.

I'd rather lose with our offense on the field than the defense. The chances for winning are that much greater.

I simply do not get how this coaching staff talks about playing the 'ball control' and 'time of possession' strategy and then....totally throw all that out the window in the last 2 minutes of the game. This is TWICE now against Green Bay this staggeringly dumb mistake has cost us the game.

I've watched Belichick & Brady absolutely strangle other teams by bleeding every second possible off the game clock at the end before scoring.

Our coaches grasp SAVING time on the clock quite well. It's when it's necessary to BLEED time off the clock in the final 2 minutes they seem to have no idea of the concept.

Just THIRTY more seconds bled off that clock and Rodgers has, at best, only time to try to get a FG.

What people don't understand is that even if that pass was caught for a TD........WE STILL LOSE!!!!

As anybody with some basic knowledge of the game would know is that our coaches have to be thinking, "we cant give the ball back to Rogers with more than 30 seconds left, regardless of what else we do".

So even that pass was caught for a TD, it is still a loss. The only smart move was to run the ball and make GB use their last time out and then take your shot at a TD at that point, DO NOT SCORE A TD BEFORE THEY USE THAT LAST TIME OUT!!!!

This is what most people with a basic 6th grade education understand. But losers lose and so Garrett walks home with an L.

The fact that we're still talking about clock management after all these years with the Red Dolt as out HC tells us all we need to know. I've lost track of the idiot's miscues to either end the half or end the game that directly impacted the game. And I said it before, but Dak absolutely has to take the playclock down before he snaps it. He snapped the ball with 13 seconds or so left.

And it's not like we haven't been on the winning end of some stupid end of the game clock management. In 2015, Manning decides to pass near the goal line with under two minutes left and we were out of TO's. We end up coming back and winning a game we had no business winning. Go to the 4:08 mark of this video. I remember it well and I know just what the GB fans were thinking yesterday. We gave away another win in the most improbable fashion yet again.
