That is when the turnaround began and it somehow coincides when we got Zeke and Dak

Amazingly it was when we lost our Franchise QB

That is why he starts at 2017.... it is the 421 Era

Until it stops being the "Garrett era", I feel it's rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

We went 13-3 in '16 with these players and Jason as HC. We lost a nail-biter in the playoffs. Go back to that season and ask yourself:
Was Dak a rookie?
Was DeMarcus the monster he has become?
Did we have a stud secondary like we're forging now?

We will be a more talented and more primed. Little people whine. It takes a man to have hope. Let's man up around here!

Yeah, that's what it takes, a "man".

:lmao:

Another Philly sycophant ......yeah

If my giving credit where credit is rightfully due makes me a "sycophant" in your eyes, I'm fine with it. Looks to me that there are more than enough Cowboys "sycophants" around here already.

Here is where the Cowboys sit:

-They have are 22-10 over the past two season.
-The Boys sit with one of the younger teams in the league. Lots of players are just entering their prime years.
-We aren't cap rich, but we probably sit better w/the cap than in previous years
-Final payment on Romo ($9 mil) will be paid soon
-We draft close to the middle of the first round, not at the end of rounds
-We have 3 bonus draft picks acquired because of prudent thinking in last season's free agency
-The secondary is looking really promising
-We have one of the best pass rushers in the game
-Zeke has no more suspensions hanging

If folks can't find a few positives to talk about...they are running from them because of their own bad attitude.
The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. Savvy?

There are some positive elements to be sure. That said, even these things taken in sum can't make you feel good about the team because there's one major plus you can't put on this list with certainty: whether or not we have the long term answer at QB. If we knew that for sure, then I think the outlook changes considerably, even if you're someone who thinks Garrett is the worst coach in the league. This is the major question hanging over everything, in my opinion, and it seems to be getting very little attention in the media. I get the sense that the Cowboys' mindset here is to just focus on what Prescott has done well thus far, discard the rest, and ignore any doubts.

It's impossible not to like Prescott and root for him, and we will be far better off if he can prove he's the guy...but this past season offered ample reason to question whether that is the case or not.

And that’s fine but in all fairness it hasn’t been any better with a slew of coaches this era under Jerry including a HOFamer and expecting the next puppet to achieve more is probably shortsighted as well.

I understand everyone’s tiring of blaming Jerry since he’s an immovable object but he is the weed that continues to bloom up thru whoever is at the helm ultimately responsible for this fiasco.

The Cowboys are the 17th youngest team in the NFL. Browns are the youngest (Rams 2nd youngest).

The 2017 Cowboys were the oldest Cowboys team since 2012.

Take away Witten and LP Ladoceur and we are probably 1st....they are like 80 combined

Plus we will lose or have lost Durant, McFadden, Morris, NCarroll, Paea and Bell

2018 team will be super young with 10 more Draft picks

If the coaches are so bad...how have they gone 22-10 in past two seasons--despite Romo getting hurt leading into 2016 and all the craziness we endured this past year.

I get some of the criticism but holy crap this forum is full of wildly exaggerated negativity--especially regarding the coaches.
Good question and part of the answer lies in the level of competition, how did they do against the better competition?

I saw all I needed to see regarding this offensive coaching staff in ATL. Not being prepared, and admitting that in the pregame the following week, for a first start LT with questionable ability, was a coaching disgrace. It took that coaching staff 3 full quarters to figure out what Aikman did on that first sack.

They took their team into hostile territory against a team playing for their season with no preparation in case the LT struggled? Garrett and Linehan should have been fired in the locker room.

My only hopes for this team to accomplish anything of significance is to get beyond their coaching level with talent. And then there's still concern for the play calling and lack of control the HC exerts over the OC, but he had the same thing with his HC once he got Phillips.

Any optimism or positive vibe I have for this season is that the outcome of games against good opponents is in the players' hands and not the coaches.

The current coaches don't have anything to do with 22-10? And if the coaches were able to take a team in 2016--with no good healthy pass rushers and a rookie quarterback to a 13-3 mark...and a Aaron Rogers hail Marry away--that and some 'curious' officiating--from the NFC title game---why the hell is it implausible a more talented team with these coaches can't go deeper...or all the way? What am I missing?

They have a lot to do with 22-10. They also have a lot to do with missing the playoffs five out of the last seven years.

Very close. If you replace Witten and LP, you would tie the Rams at 2nd youngest with a 25.09 average age.

But you'd have to replace them with two 10 year olds. :D

And I don't see anyone absolving Jerry Jones either. It's not either-or, it's both.

So does every discussion have to end with Jerry or Jason. How do we move forward with discussions and dialogue or should we just shut down the forum until Jerry and or Jason are gone.

Otherwise it becomes like the “We’ll never win with Romo ” rhetoric.

Oh no, not at all. I'd be happy to discuss anything and everything else in the appropriate place. But seeing how this thread mentions "State of the Franchise", I don't think there are two bigger or more negative factors to discuss within that subject.

But if you want to start threads about other areas of this team - and its legitimate strengths in those areas - I'd be more than happy to discuss them.

I've said more than once that I firmly believe that a more capable coaching staff could win with this team's roster today.
