What was interesting is most of my buds didn't like the Beatles, we were all Stones fans and you had to choose. It was like Marlboro vs Winston. But when we all heard that, we knew this was something different but we had no idea what was coming behind it and what the other musicians and writers were going to do with this new freedom.

One thing it did with it's success, it made the labels back off on the formula of a hit and rethink the plan. It really took the governor off the engine and allowed them to turn these artists loose to create and it was the beginning of artist driven music instead of label driven. Whether someone likes the Beatles on not doesn't matter, we all owe them for this music today.
I don't like the Beatles. And choose Marlbo over Winston

Gosh I remember playing the Johnny Cash "Live at Folsom Prison" as an 8-track!

I haven't listen to it in a very long time, but I love Ozzy's Bark at the Moon from front to back also.

I thought BATM was a great album. Tough to measure up to his first 2 albums though! But No doubt Ozzy and Jake e lee did a nice job!!

Well said. I am a big fan of the British Invasion big bands...the who, zeppelin, stones and on and on...for the 60’s and 70’s produced some of the greatest music...

The Beach Boys Pet Sounds is the album that always comes to mind as the first album that tried to match SGT Peppers...at least the one I’m most familiar with.

Considered Who's Next, Machine Head, and Killer but I think I'd get tired of those too quickly.

Actually it was the other way around... "Pet Sounds" influenced "Sgt Peppers." "Rubber Soul" influenced Brian Wilson to do "Pet Sounds".

One long chain of influence I guess.
