Our D has been allowing opposing O's to walk up and down the field. And many were touting it as OK as long as the other team didn't score.

That MIGHT work in the regular season against average teams. But, when you get to the playoffs and let Aaron and Tom and even Eli walk up and down the field on you, you'll lose.

What boggles my mind is that anyone thought this was OK to begin w/.
I know. I'm not sure how many times we had to hear "top 4 scoring defense" that year. Then that guy kept arguing the defense shut the Packers down after the 1st quarter. He kept asking people if they watched the game and wondering how we can come back from a 28-3 deficit, even after constantly reminded him we were only down 21-3.

There's smart interceptions?
An "Dumb" Interception is where the fault lies with the QB, based upon poor judgment, rather than bad or hampered execution (or a good play by a defender). Romo threw a bunch early in his career. Not so many after 2012.

I'll give you I can't think of any smart ones, lol.

Outside of the Carolina game, Romo was undefeated in games he started. He was 3-1 in 2015 and they were 0-12 without him. What does that tell you about his value? As good as Romo was, it was the really the lack of Murray that hurt the team even more. McFadden was an in between the 20s kind of back and turned out to not be the bell cow that Murray was (and not good in all 3 phases of the game like Murry for that matter). In 2016, the team drafts a more talented version of Murray and look what happened. So Romo was 3-1 without Murray. What was Dak without Zeke? I rest my case.:D

As far as if Romo could stay healthy or not, who cares? If he does, he's your best chance to win in 2016 when he returned to the roster. If not, you go back to Dak.
Romo wasn't undefeated the Cowboys were undefeated. Why are you giving Romo sole credit for being 3-0? And no...you don't jerk around your quarterback and start him when he plays well and then sit him for a old brittle quarterback just to bring him back in if he gets hurt. You don't mess with a young players head like that....not only that but Dak played well. He had arguably the best season of any rookie and the team was behind him. The players were behind Dak. Not Romo.

I'm all for seeing this through. Absolutely. The hope is that Dak is going through a transformation right now, and that he'll get past these issues by this coming season.

We'll know what Dak is soon. He's not going to figure it out in his 4th or 5th year if he doesn't now. He'll have 40 games under him this season, which is more than enough, especially for an older guy like he is (for his draft year).

I think this will go really well, or really badly. I don't see much in the middle. If it looks bad, they need to insert Cooper Rush by midseason so we can start finding out about him quickly.

Having to draft a QB next spring will start yet another 3-year process, so guys like Zeke will be in their 7th seasons by the time we get good again.
Actually I think best case scenario he plays like he did his rookie year. Worst case? He plays like he did in the first 8 games of last year. Not great play but good enough to win games. I don't think the fall off was as bad as people say here. Talking about his "bad footwork" and everything else.....as if qb's don't complete passes with bad footwork. The criticisms of Dak aren't warranted but doesn't mean it will repeat what he did at the end of last season.

I'm not sure if I would call these "smart" interceptions because there isn't any good time to throw them, but there are certainly smart risks you have to take, even if an interception occurs.

For example, a hail mary pass. Who cares if it gets picked off. If you're throwing a hail mary pass you're tyring a desperation play to score a TD with no time left. A turnover really doesn't turn the ball over, it is just a stupid play by the defense because they should bat the ball down instead of trying to catch it.

Another example is being down big in the 2nd half, like the last 2 of Romo's 5 interceptions against the Bears in 2013. Who cares if the ball gets intercepted, you have to take shots down the field. Playing it safe and having time consuming drives isn't going to win you the game. You need big plays for quick scoring drives or you're dead anyway.

Another example, 4th down late in the game when you must score. Nobody is open so you have to force the ball. You're turning it over on downs anyway, who cares if the defense picks it off further down the field? Throwing the ball away would be a worse option because you wouldn't even be giving your receiver a chance.

The Cowboys management with this Dak's friendly plan is trying to change a lot of players,so Dak's deficiency is minimized.
Why not just draft another quarterback.
I wish they would take "Dak friendly" out of you guys vocabluary....when they wanted to make this team "Romo friendly" I didn't hear one complaint....but for some reason "Dak friendly" means they want Dak's deficiencies minimized. Oh because they are getting him receivers that actually match his skillset and what he's good at...players who catch and run routes well....yeah......what a "Dak friendly offense".

Just yankin' yer chain!!!!

Nope, wasn't me. I'm not in the Romo vs Dak arguments at all!!!!!

I’m actually somebody who liked both QB’s and have no desire to debate Romo vs. Dak. If Romo didn’t have the injury concerns, he would still be the starter. But people can’t go back and revise history to make it seem like Romo missing a huge stretch of games in a row due to injury, over 2 seasons, wasn’t a major factor in his retirement.

actually i blame the Cowboys for coining that stupid term..

you shouldn't make anything more friendly to your QB , if he cant run your full playbook, hes not your future guy..the romo friendly offense was simply getting him better Blockers and a running game AFTER he already got way too many injurys..it was change in philosophy from Romo go win with no help and that didnt work so too little too late they decided to go run first , draft better olinemen , and try and keep Romo upright..

Dak friendly seems to be more of we need to run more of his college offense and use his skill set for rpos and go away from a timing based route system etc etc nothing to do with Wrs but again if you have to cut half your playbook tpo cater to one players skillset, hes not the guy.. I said that back when Ryan was running that Crazy defense and it wasn't working and they decided to go more vanilla for the Cbs and Lbs to better understand their responsibility's.. im sorry but no team should do that..

adding afew plays that Dak likes from his college days is just fine but reducing the playbook and changing route trees to me is saying he cant handle our offense..we blame the coaches for not being creative and being vanilla, maybe they don't have the confidence in their players...it begs to question which came first..

I say you throw the entire book at Dak this year and he either picks it up or he doesn't..theres a reason guys like Tim Teebow/Manziel/Kap/others who obviously were athletic and skilled enough to play in the NFL had their careers cut short, it was OC and coaches not wanting to only use a tailored down offense that eventually is easy to figure out how to stop.. they decided they need both athleticism and a leadership combined to a cerebral player but if they had to sacrifice they rather have a stiff cerebral QB over an Athletic one who can only run half the playbook efficiently..

so don't placate players throw it all at them and see how they come out the other end..

He's not "your" QB. He's a QB on your roster. You have another QB on your roster who is better so you play him. What's so hard about that? Saying Dak has "poor" footwork may be a bit harsh, but it is... how can I say this without offending... "not so good". You can complete passes with poor... I mean not so good footwork, but you also make it harder on your receivers to make the catch (or limit their YAC, as they have to make an adjustment to catch it).

BTW, who cares who the players were behind? What is this playground football? Last I heard the Head Coach makes the decision who starts (though I'm sure that some players were behind Romo, which is why he made his speech for the benefit of the team). Players play for money. They're supposed to be professionals and respect the decisions of the coaching staff. If Garrett made this decision based upon what the players wanted, he really should be fired.

His rookie year, the book wasn't out on him until miseason, and the schedule was pretty soft. His play last year was erratic, and he hasn't had a good game against a good defense yet. Bad defenses can't take advantage of Dak's weaknesses, but good ones are flat shutting him down.

Now, it's his turn to adjust. It's the difference between $150 million and career journeyman backup status. We'll find out soon.

A simple analysis of Cooper's skillset tells you all you need to know. Does not have the arm for the NFL. It's not complicated. You cannot throw lollipops in the NFL.

I agree w/ you on Dak. We will find out this year.
Rush has a stronger arm than Dak.

Besides, it's a lot more about when and where you throw it than how hard you throw it.

Joe Montana had a rag arm.

I like this guy's work but one thing stands out on these highlights - Dak is consistently under pressure. High, Low, Running. In nearly every clip his is taking or about to be taking a hit. It is amazing. Clean throwing lanes were non existent. I will admit he had happy feet in the second half of last season. Why??? Because the coaching staff got him killed in ATL. The OL was awful last season as well. This video is not close to being fair. They should have shown 2016 video as well.

Dak hasn't had a good game against a good defense? 2016-Philly, Baltimore, and TB. TB and Baltimore were top defenses at that time against the run and Dak beat them with his arm. He has played bad against top defenses too, but to say he never has played well against a good defense is a lie.

Romo was replaced because he couldn't stay on the field. The idea that he "would have" or "could have" done better in 2016 is speculation. The staff collectively kept Prescott in for a reason. If there is any comparison between the two the only thing we have is their first 2 seasons. It's time to let go of the fact Romo chose to retire. He was beat up and couldn't take hits. Yet some fans will not let it rest. Time to move on.

Dak had about 80 yards passing against Philly late in the 3rd quarter, and Dallas was getting stomped. Then, for some reason the Eagles stopped running the football (they were gashing us at will), and played themselves into a loss. And Baltimore and Tampa could barely manage a first down. Their defenses just wilted from having to play the entire game.

I'm tired of seeing Dak under 100 yards passing in the 4th quarter.

Romo was a battered QB by then. That's not in dispute.

But Romo was in an entirely different league than Dak as a quarterback when healthy. Not even comparable.

That's like comparing Staubach to Glenn Carano.

If Dak can't run this playbook? I surely wouldn't fault him for it being that its so outdated. Romo had success with it when he improvised or completely changed the play. The same playbook Dak has is the same one Romo had. Linehan should've been used his own playbook but he must be ok with it since he has his job on the line with Garrett's playbook in his hands. Couldn't be me. I'm going out swinging with my own playbook.

He's not "your" QB. He's a QB on your roster. You have another QB on your roster who is better so you play him. What's so hard about that? Saying Dak has "poor" footwork may be a bit harsh, but it is... how can I say this without offending... "not so good". You can complete passes with poor... Dak is your QB. When he had the best rookie campaign of any rookie of all time? He became your Qb. Only a fool would bench him with the salary he had. A FOOL. And you guys accuse Garrett of that but even he wasn't that much of a fool to do it.

And who cares who the players were behind? You probably should. Those are the guys who play for your team and you are asking to get you to the playoffs. The Head coach wanted Dak as well as the players. Jerry probably was the only one campaigning for Romo to go back out there and permanently injure himself to where he couldn't even walk around without a cane. Cowboys did Romo a favor. He knew he was finished. And it really cracks me up you guys still want Romo out there when ROMO RETIRED. He RETIRED after the 2016 season. He didn't go to another team....he RETIRED. Let Romo go. He's moved on. You guys keep trying to relive Romo's heyday which btw, resulted in 2 playoff wins in his 10+ career....yet you guys want me to sit here and believe had we had him we would've went further than what we did that year with Dak? Please. Let Romo go. He's moved on why can't you?
