I mean this topic of Zack Martin comes down to one thing.. do the Joneses want to sign him long term or do they want to face the pitchforks, boiling oil, and firing squad. Martin is literally the best guard in the nfl. You don't ever let that walk.
There’s no way Jerry or Stephen let Zack walk. 99.9999% sure that never happens. He is the best at his position.

That's a lot of cap space to be used on 2 players if dlaw does great again this year.

Love the guy but no G is worth 14+ million a year. Then we wonder why we haven't had a formidable DEFENSE in over 20 years!

Let him walk and allocate the cap monies for the defense.

Let's first acquire those defenders before we let him walk. In other words, get back to me when we're letting high end defenders go because of Martin. We don't have them right now. We have like one we need to pay. Others may develop nicely, but that remains to be seen.

I keep getting grilled for it, but I'll keep saying it. I really don't think the Cowboys will extend Martin. They'll let him walk because he's seeking too much money, or more preferably, they'll trade him in a sign-and-trade.

The Cowboys are still investing premium draft picks on the line. I think it's a sign.

Now go ahead, tell me how wrong I am.
Super duper wrong...

Huh? they let the solid players like Hitchens and McClain go and keep the Tyrons, Lees, and TFreds.

He gon' get 14/yr.
Things will get difficult for the OL in the next year and the year after the next. I'm intrigued to see how they handle this allocation of money combined with their focus to keeping the OL as elite as possible.
I think we'll be seeing more high round OL picks in the next several drafts.

Good chance of that. Martin is a low risk player. Hopefully they will get a deal done that works for all parties. There is a chance that the price is too rich and the team replaces the player instead of signing him. Obviously that isn't ideal tho.

I treat my agent and business the same way. I do what I do and my agent doesn't make a dime from me unless he does his job too. It's a symbiotic relationship.
Went to my Dr. a few years ago and a mlb agent was talking to a SD Padres player in the lobby and the player was dictating what he wanted done. That is really how it works.

I won't. Honestly, this could be the smart move, which is why I'm not expecting it.
Just keep rotating the OL with premium capital.

It's a trade off: Trading premium picks for dollars on the Cap on a specific Unit, but it's an interesting gamble I'm curious to see play out.

I agree. If you can trade Martin and keep your cap costs down, replace the player with a draft pick and get another player on top of that it's a good deal for the team as long as you can get substantially nearly the same talent level player.

I grew up 3rd World in Ingleside, TX with a mother who's husband just went brain-dead, on the job, when I was 2 and she didn't even have a DL.

Everything I have is because of me and her.
I will never be ashamed of that.

Kudos.

It's been all over the internet, posted on so many networks, for several months now. Why act as if he and his agent aren't seeking #1 Guard pay? Are you denying that he is?
I just haven't seen it anywhere. Stop being defensive. It's not like you get your news from the drama queens around here that post. Funny how you can't prove what you say though.

No OG is worth the price the market is saying right now.
Love the guy but OG is the easiest position to replace on offense. I would hate to strapped to a 14m per year OG contract for 5 years. Gag
I would franchise him if I had to and then try to trade him. I spend that money on DLaw before I spent it on Martin if I have to choose. We will also have Zeke and Daks next contract looming shortly. OG, even the best one in the game, is quite a ways down on my priority list.

What if the Cowboys decide to trade Martin next off-season? Get a good pick, or two... Then they invest a round 1, or, at worst a round 2 T/G to "replace" him while it may be Conner doing the replacing...

Keep viewing the OL as the Hidey Hidey Ho of the team, in the draft and doing their best to keep costs low on the unit?

Oy... I fear I tread in difficult waters. I'm a story-teller, not an analyst.

OL, especially OG is a safe pick in the 1st, but I'm not sure drafting OGs in the 1st is the best way to build a team.

Martin will be expensive because he is the best at his position, young and has rarely missed a game; however, on average OGs cost less than the premium positions LT, Pass Rusher, CB, WR and obviously QB.

My preference is to take one of those premium positions if possible. Obviously the BPA will not always be one of these positions which is fine, but I just don't want to go into the draft with OG as the top target.

On the flip side paying 14M per to an OG is not ideal (in theory); however, Martin is the best. He also compensates for issues at RT. He probably extended Doug Free's career by a couple of years.

I can't remember when a contract regardless of size was an issue if it was for a great player that remained great throughout the duration of the contract.
