It's been speculated between 84 to 90 million for 6 years. More than 30 million guaranteed. Probably 40 million guaranteed

Hmm, yes, a bit steep, I suppose, but I still reckon that it's worth it for a chap like Martin. A bit tricky keeping top talent, isn't it?

You fail to see that this is more than a 2 year deal.

Completely disagree and it was that type of mentality that had Dallas in cap hall for many years.

If his total contract is 84 million for 6 years that's 14 mill per year. You're thinking is give him a cap hit of 8 mill this year and sign 6 million in talent elsewhere. Next year, his cap hit would be at 10 million and sign extra talent with that savings. Before you know it, the contract has ballooned up and FO is back in cap hell and can't sign any new talent and will most likely have to let key players walk because Martin's cap hit will be exceeding the 14 million cap hit.

1st year- 16 million cap hit
2nd year- 16 million cap hit
3rd year- 14 million cap hit
4th year 14 million cap hit
5th year 12 million cap hit
6th year 12 million cap hit.

Dallas would also be able to get out of the deal any of those last 3 years with zero dead money.
my way is the correct way....

pre-paying athletes is a recipe for disaster........Dead Money is 10x better than your plan

You're way has been the approach the FO has taken for the last 20 years. They've finally seen it's the wrong way, with zero superbowls and 2 playoff wins as proof.

Also, you need to learn about cap hits. They rarely correlate with the way players are actually paid. This isn't T-Mobile

I love Zack Martin.

That would be a ridiculous contract for him as it would be WAYYY above the highest contract ever given to a guard. That would be 25 million more than what Norwell just got.

Would be better to franchise him for three straight years than to sign him to that.

at some point you gotta pick an identity and run with it.
might as well be 4 yards and a cloud of dust.
keep aaron rodgers butt on the sideline next time they meet.

Well, that seems like the plan. But at some point, if the goal is winning a title, you have to look around the league and take a little notice of whats working.

First & foremost it's defense not defence, just saying & I don't care that u misspelled it but these posters on here would have a field day if a poster like myself did that but anyways it appears to me u wanna argue or we're not really talking to each other so I'll say dispute with me irregardless of what I text.
Now about naming u 3 guys, I can do better than that but ill keep to ur theme& say Andrew Norwell formely of Carolina who now plays for Jacksonville. a player I advocated for drafting B4 Martin in David Decastro& u can ur pick to ur preference with the 3rd but I'll say Brandon Brooks from Philadelphia. I say whatever ur preference is cause noticed I left out the " Gabe Jacksons, Marshall Yandas, TJ Langs& the player he's replacing as the highest paid guard in Kevin Zeitler. So that was idiotic of u to say such. Martin is not the best guard in the league champ, trust me on that.

I didn't say anything to what ur referring to so why say such stupid stuff, this is why I said u must wanna dispute but since we are disputing, it does seem we pick a lot of O-Lineman with our picks& rich ones@ that. Smith,Beard,Martin are all 1st rounders. Williams is a 2nd& don't forget Chazz Green pick in the 3rd with good defensive players still on the board with that pick. So I'm not arguing we do or don't but one is not crazy to look at it as we do. There's many examples & plenty of teams who have good offensive lines& don't use the resources we do to do so

Lastly this what tickles me about homers..This declaration we got a talented secondary is homerism at its finest & definitely seen thru Blue&Silver colored glasses. Washington has a better secondary than us, Philadelphia has a better secondary than us& of course the giants secondary is highly more touted than ours. What pundit or NFL personality has gave our secondary rave reviews. No one, so this proclamation that our secondary is good or elite is Cowboys propaganda, only amongst us do.this fly's.
Now with all being discussed between u& I who's being delusional & who doesn't really know about football & only goes off what Dallas Cowboys.com says or what Cowboys enthusiastic poster post?!;'-)
So now Martin isn’t the best guard in the league? Even though he’s rated as such by his peers? Ok cool. Let me take your word for it. Since you know. You know football better than NFL players and the AP.

Regarding our secondary. Awuzie has one of if not the best completion percentages against last season. Lewis held his own and looked very good at times. Woods looked phenomenal at times last year. We just spent a 19 overall on LB. smith is apparently turning a lot of heads so far this offseason and we know who Sean Lee is. Our DL is our worst position on defence and I don’t think it’s as bad as many here think. I’ll give you that one though. So far though. It looks like you’re the delusional one and not me. Regardless if I am homer or not. I like where our defence is going. And where its trending. All I was saying is you’re making it seem like because we aren’t spending money on it that it’s going to be horrible. We’ve invested a ton of draft capital into it. So let’s see where that takes us. You don’t seem like the type of person to come on here and admit you were wrong though so it is what it is.

Not confirmed. That was after the Cowboys philosophical change. Not before. They were already drafting OL early and getting rid of the garbage they were "getting by" with.

You won't find one before because he's a cheerleader for the team.
I’ve been preaching building the trenches for years and years. Ever since the 90’s when they started getting away from doing the same.

I used to be an optimist too, but 22 years of disappointment, turned me into a realist. I don’t think getting your bubble burst every year is any healthier either.
It’s not something you turn on or off. It’s a character trait. It’s something you’re born with.

Your mock contract is wrong on multiple levels, which shows your misunderstanding of the cap. First, his contract is 7 years, not 6. He’s rumored to be signing a 6 year extension, which would consolidate with his current 1/9.4 million dollar contract to create a new 7 year deal officially on the books. Secondly, it’s impossible to be free of dead money after 3 years because signing bonuses prorate over 5 years.

You’re “ballooning” of his contract is also misguided. You’ve described the cap as if it’s a static environment that doesn’t change. It’s not, it’s dynamic. The cap goes up by about $10 million every year. If his cap number goes from 5 this year to 8 next year, you still have an additional $7 million next year from natural increases, not including rollover, money coming off the books from FAs, and cuttable contracts.

it is six years vs 5 years for norwell. not saying i want him to break the bank but z.martin is way more accomplished imo than norwell.

66.5 over 5 years = 13.3 avg/yr

if it is 90 over 6 years = 15 avg/yr

franchise for OL is 14 mil and going up as more contracts get signed. it's probably a wash money wise and better on the cap if he signs long term.
