I would try more 2 min type, no huddle. Let him get in a groove, do some stuff for himself
It’s not like huddling and coaching worked
He actually played better when we spread out Carolina and ran more no huddle
Most QB love the no huddle
Just play and tune out the coaches
Let him sink or swim

I'm on board with this. Of course he cant go off the chains. Coaches wont put up with that. There was a time [2016] Dak was in the zone.
I haven't seen that in a while. I don't care what the problem is just find it and fix it

I wonder what would happen if Dak stopped listening to the idiocy/coaching/noise/whatever you want to call it in his ear and just started doing his own thing like in his rookie season?

Thoughts?

As mentioned elsewhere, Romo started ignoring the coaches and it worked out pretty well for him.

I'll say it once more, when Dak was playing wide open in his rookie season before the "dumbing down" effect started, he was decisive, care free, and effective.

Will it take him taking a bold step in defining his career (just like Romo did) to save it?
he can't. that was the perfect storm. going back and watching some of those, it was everything falling in place for the team and him being at the right place at the right time. if Romo played that offense would have been that much better and the team probably would have been better off over all. the fact is that we can't ignore 2017. and the fact is even in his rookie season, he had issues, including his footwork and throws and he got away with it, because he was a newbie surrounded by a lot of talent. 2nd year he got exposed. third year he is at a disadvantage.

You're saying the staff who won 13 games and convinced many in the fandom/across the country Dak was the real deal are actually the problem. Garrett deserved CotY for that reason alone.

Thoughts?

Given.

Many things are mentioned. You saying that's what happened?

I'll say it once more, when Dak was playing wide open in his rookie season before the "dumbing down" effect started, he was decisive, care free, and effective.

By wide open, what are you talking about? Not asking him to make more than 2 progressions?

Will it take him taking a bold step in defining his career (just like Romo did) to save it?

It will take him playing better.

Do you want him to run more?

It has always seemed to me that when Dak got more responsibility in the offense he started to struggle more. As a rookie he was just going out there and running the play, with very little audible or check outs or anything - line up, call for the ball and do what you are supposed to do. And with a lot of roll outs and limited reads. I thought that in his second year they gave him more responsibility, he's doing a lot more at the LoS and he's not reading half the field as often. And his play has declined. I'm not sure, and I haven't gone back to watch his rookie season, but that was the impression I got.

If that's the case then I don't see how giving him more freedom, and by extension responsibility, would fix his problems.

Google the following article to the Dallas news website. The forum blocks the URL, otherwise I would link to it. In game 1 against the Giants last year, Dak threw three times in the red zone and failed to complete a pass. Linehan basically said the first two plays were “run/pass” options and Dak should have actually went run based on the formation he was seeing.

OC Scott Linehan explains why Cowboys threw three incomplete passes on goal-to-go plays Sunday”

So what's different between now and then?

Garrett was OC then, Linehan is now.. so Dak doesn’t get the Garrett offense excuse. Dak also started off with an all pro line with pretty much all of them playing with each other a minimum of two to three years.

Linehan has tailored this whole offense to run bootlegs and read-options, as well as plenty of play action for Dak, things Garrett never called in his whole career as play caller and OC.. we ran more play action with Dak in a third of a season than we ever did with Garrett as OC, besides the fact Garrett never ran the ball anyways, because he clearly proved himself incapable of blending a passing game with a running game..

and Romo only had one full season with Linehan, both a player and a coach who rely on 5-7 step drops as staples their offenses. And that year Romo threw 34 TDs and only had 9 INTs, while Dallas was last in pass attempts, meaning Romo was throwing the ball in the end-zone in bunches while hardly throwing. And that season was a bunch of run/pass options, meaning Romo was choosing to run the ball now that he had control and Garrett was out the equation.

I wonder what happened if this bum could throw more than 10 Yards and doesnt get happy feet 90% of the Plays. His field Vision is probably worse in the league.

If the Ball is snapped he turns his whole Body to his throwing Hand only sees the right side of the field. He doesnt wait for Plays to develop.

But some people want more of this, because Dak doesn't have enough responsibility. They want him to not only have control over run/pass, but want him to totally change the offense on a whim. Maybe he should just have a players only meeting and install his own offense, because he's just that good. Tom Brady would, and Dak is much better than him - did you see how much better Dak's rookie stats were than Brady's?

Dak must know his got his career in his own hands and act accordingly
That's a serious statement. Those clowns will cheer him up and spot him out without batting an eye. Romo picked the trend and rescued his career. I look for Dak to do the same. That doesn't mean go rogue. It simply means doing what HE thinks will work situationally. Even if it means taking an occasional ear beating on the sideline from Linehan or Garrett.

Linehan and Garrett are both scrub OCs. There is no difference. I appreciate your long diatribe though.

You mean actually adjust your strategy to the strengths of the QB? Nahhhh... That type of flexibility doesn't exist in either Linehan or Garrett's craniums.

TIL Dak didn't listen to his coaches his rookie season. Who knew? It's the only possible explanation that fits the agenda, so it must be the case.
Yes. Thanks. It's better than the plethora of Dak bashing I've seen for weeks now. & It's true. Romo did it. Dak can too.

In his rookie season, Dak was devoid of the type of box fitting coaching that Garrett and Linehan like to deploy. It was not about not listening to his coaches in that rookie season. It was about still being that raw decisive talent that hadn't yet had the true opportunity to "fall in line" so to speak. That is indeed true but I don't expect many of you with preconceived notions to understand it.

In order to truly find success, I believe he will indeed have to do what Romo did and push the envelope a bit. While the coaching clowns still want to keep him in a box, he knows the offense and is beyond ready to improvise at the line. I'm waiting to see him do it... Just like golden boy Romo did.

Rriighhttt... Cute. I guess young Romo was the only person capable of calling plays at the line. That possibility could never exist with Dak. Gotcha.
