Is Trading Zeke on the Table?

Trading him should be an option, after this season.
His rookie deal was for just about $25mil, his 5th yr option is at $9.5mil.
I'd offer him a 3 yr $35.5mil extension now. That's a grad total of about $70 mil over 8 seasons. And that deal would keep him here through the 2023 season, He'll be 28, which, with the amount of use he has had and will continue to get, is about the time I see him starting to decline, rapidly.
If he wont take that offer than I'd be looking to trade him, but after this season.

Zeke's agent would never take that offer.

Gurley got 4-years, 58M with 45M guaranteed. The 4-years start after the 5th year option for 9 years total.

The question is never, "would you trade this guy?" It's always, "what would you trade this guy for?"
It would take a huge offer for Dallas to trade Zeke this year (and probably next), because Dallas sees themselves as competitive for a championship. It's an easier decision when you're rebuilding.
That said, would I trade Zeke now for (say) Miami's entire 2020 draft? Yes I would. For their first-rounder? Nope, but ask me again next year.

They don't really have a replacement for 2018.

If someone overwhelmed them in March of 2020 with a trade offer, they could still draft a RB and/or sign a lower tier free agent.

you are thick bro,

I said its Ludacris that you think if he got new contract now that 2-3 years from now hes more likely then anyone else to hold out again.. its what stars do as the cap goes up and they feel they deserve more they all do it..super star elite athletes do this in all sports.bottom line zeke deserves new deal and its smarter to pay him now..BTW its an FN rumor as of now where the official report from team, agent or player??

But you know what they don't do? They don't give the money back when they have a year that sucks out loud. They don't do that so until they start doing that, I don't care if Zeke is make less then Gurley. I flat don't care because the Cowboys were very fair with him at the time he signed the deal. This idea that players can and should simply end a contract because they don't like the money they are making is a recipe for failure. You can't run a team that way. You can't run a business that way. If you believe that's how it should work, you should implement that policy into your business or buy a team and try to run it that way. I wish you luck.

On your last, that sounds like a question for the author of the story, wouldn't you say?

yes more then cooper who the flip is he, he was here for 10games ...

zeke got drafted , performed at high level and now has outplayed his deal, hes top 2 if not 1 in the league at his position, is Dak or Amari, the answer would be NO..

the Cap cant be managed by cutting all the stars Dak and Amari re no more entitled then zeke and zekes earned it.. if the Cowboys overpay for Dak and Amari its their own doing they should offer Dak 30 and amari 15 and zeke 14 whomever signs first get the bigger deal..the rest fall into place , If Amari wants 17 and Dak 32 Zeke who arguably is the best player on the team production wise, they should use him up and get rid of him? that the very thought process that is making Zeke want to restructure now..i at first said no hes got 2 years left but they treat RBs this way then id do the same thing after yr 3 if I were tops in my postion and looking at Bell, Larry and Gurley got dang straight

At least you said that they are no more entitled which means that Zeke is no more entitled either. Bottom line, he can sit if he wants. He's only hurting himself by doing so. He can cry all the way to his couch but when the time comes, he's going to get paid what the team feels he's worth or he can play elsewhere.

Pick up Jeremy Parnell and Jay Ajayi

Trade La'el and Zeke for draft capital and hopefully a young contributor that has fallen out of favor with their current team.

Save CAP, gain draft capital and young assets, notice little drop off in production if any.

You say that but I haven't seen it. So again, we all know that he hasn't said anything publicly but we also know it's the off season so when things like this get posted, you discuss it. That's why this is called a message board. It's where you go to discuss stuff.

It's a non-issue in just about any other business. Employees in a free market are free to negotiate terms with any employer in their field, and can leave and join another employer in their field if they're offered more or if they don't like the place they're working. In the NFL monopoly, drafted players have no choice who they play for and can't really negotiate the terms of their rookie contract. Pretty much the only leverage they have is the holdout. You can still dislike them using that leverage, but trying to compare to other businesses is bogus.

All that said, I'd be surprised if he held out this year. Next year, yes, like Gordon is threatening to now.

No, trading zeke should not be on the table, imo.

- He's the player that personifies our identity, and whatever we do offensively, the base of our offense feeds off the success and presence he brings.
He sets and changes the dynamic of what we want to do to opposing defenses, and changes the dynamics of what opposing defenses want and have to do to have to compete against us.
And it's at an elite level
And there's a difference between elite level and what a serviceable B-tier player does.

It's not just the punishing ground and pound wear defenses have to account for but also the nerve wrecking take it to the house breakaway runs and big chunk yards.
And whether run or pass game, he still has proven he can affect the quick take- it -to house TDs (ala quick screen passes)
Some backs may wear down the later the game, season goes, while some backs thrive and finish even more as the game closes in the deciding moments.
Zeke is a finisher.

-If there are concerns, it's the off field incidents that don't seem to want to go away. With zeke it seems you’re dealing more with a big kid at heart albeit some immaturity issues.
. ..rather than dealing with a bad character issue person.

Imo, he’s more Beaver Cleaver mischievous, .he’s not a domestic abuse (both ohio police and NFL investigators didn’t see any clues or infractions) or substance abuse guy,
he’s not a vioatile locker room cancer, that affects against teammates, coaches, management, doesn’t throw his team, his QB, his coaches under the bus and into the media gossip groups.
As far as this contract holdout rumor,.. should it prove true, zeke has outperformed his current contract in leading the NFL twice in 2 of his 3 years, and his camp may not want
to risk the dynamics of hardball contract stalls 2 years down the road.
Maybe they have decided to pursue contractual commitment and peace of mind early than expected and also want to avoid any future franchise tagged seasons.
I do tend to believe that the leverage is on his side of the fence .

Trading an elite back or big name RB is not out of the question, and has been done so in the past. Hershel Walker, Erick Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, Ricky Williams, etc.
but it seems to have become very rare in these NFL times, and I don't think zeke 's situation is that dire and warranted to consider that.
We know what we have in zeke, .we know what kind of established player at an elite level we have. He's a proven commodity, and we dunno what we will get in the next drafted
RB should we trade him away.

But the flip side is that you can also see your benefits and or pay be decreased. However, what you say is not true, even in the Commercial Industry. If you have a contract, you are bound by that contract and you have legal ease in order to get compensated. That's just the way Contracts work and it doesn't matter if you are in the NFL or in the Private Sector. A contract is binding.

A question for Cowboys fans. This is a question not related to the off the field issues. Is Zeke worth a new contract with over 1500 carries since college?

Personally I would love to have Zeke the next couple years but I personally would not mind letting him after that. At that point he would be coming close to the end of his prime. So why not explore trading him now while he has value?

If a team used a 1st on a player and that player played awesome to just get rid of him after FOUR seasons, that would be a waste of a first. Im so tired of the talk about how backs are washed up at age 25?? cmon, how long did emmitt last? Pretty sure he was a workhorse in his day also.

The discussion is not about if he will. The discussion is if we should trade him if he does. Nobody said that it was a done deal.

Is it?

yeah I know, but the offer remains the same.

Yes, it absolutely is.

The title of the thread is a Question asking if we should trade Zeke. It is not a statement saying we are or should. Poster gives his opinion but he's definitely asking the question.

26 in 2 years though. I would consider moving on from him next season. High value

Something is better than nothing. It depends on when you trade him too. We traded Walker after 1500 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving. Never the same back after he left Dallas but he put great numbers. We can't be afraid to trade Zeke after a really good season. Rams missed their window with Gurley.

To many fans think TRADE is the cure for anything. You missed the point those former GM's and I were making. Because of Elliott's off the field troubles ever off season and having already been suspended for 6 games and the next time will be 10 games or an entire season, Elliott's value could be much lower than many fans think it will be. Now the Cowboys have him for this season and then can exercise the 5th year option and if Elliott sit for the entire season or comes back at week 10 for an accrued season and then pulls that again in 2020 not only will his off the field troubles come into play, but also his selfish stance will be front and center and he may have to decide to take a league minimum contract as a prove it year before getting a bigger contract, but not the kind he's holding out for now. In any case he'll never recoup all the money he will be losing doing that instead of taking a reasonable contract now. Now if Elliott is still;l running well why the Cowboys except a low ball trade offer when they have all the leverage.
