I think that point is a valid one. It was a mistake for Stephen to mention those numbers in the first place. And I think that if he had it to do I've, he would never have said anything.

But that doesn't mean that he's now stuck following the Rams mistake in paying Gurley what they did.
yes true but its why Zeke has set in and has now had an upped offer, possible final one coming very soon..its why you dont publicly talk contracts.. SJ Knew zeke was going to holdout by TC if he didnt have new deal, he was INFORNED.. he said that after knowing what Zeke wanted..

our feelings dont matter its business Zeke wants guaranteed money before he risks more abuse to his body..see lamar Miller , that could have been Zeke on rookie deal with squat left in real money..

Like I said I like the last offer it seems like win win hopefully with few teaks hes back next week and preparing to squash the gnats.. it would be ashamed to have a RB2 with a skill set to compliment Zeke go to waste.. lets not get it twisted we need both Zeke will be better on this team then not..Pollard regardless of how he turns out wont be Zeke anytime soon.. maybe im wrong but I saw a kid play QB/WR in HS, be part time RB used mostly as utility guy in Collège.. Zeke was stud from HS to now, that Elite Company my friend and our chances to win are much better with Zeke then without..

I expected that the issue of guaranteed money would be the major sticking point. It usually is with most contracts anyway, but I think that there are two points that make it an even bigger factor at work in these negotiations:
  1. The Todd Gurley messed up the market. And it has proven to be a mistake for the Rams as they are now stuck with a running back with a balky knee because of that guaranteed money. They would get out of the deal I fully they could, but they can't. They are the cautionary tale for the rest of the league.
  2. Elliott's own history should make anyone cautious in guaranteeing him anything. Let's face it, he can't guarantee that he can stay out of trouble and not miss games. So why should anyone guarantee him anything for that potential unknown? In short, they shouldn't. His own actions and choices created this dynamic, and he should be the one that suffers as a result, not anyone else.

I agreed, his last incident had him on a very thin line of suspension.

The Rams had other factors, rather than on field, in play causing them to do that deal. The first is that going into the season Gurley was the highest profile player on their team and they were trying to sell season tickets so they needed to secure him. They want to sell season tickets in a market that include the Lakers, the Dodgers, Hollywood, the weather, and the beach.

We should be familiar with this because it happened when Parcels was hired, JJ was trying to get stadium financing and the Cowboys were coming off a few disappointing seasons in a row. JJ knew that the disgruntled fans were fed up and would vote down financing for the stadium unless he hired a real football guy and handed over the reigns. He did and after the stadium vote went his way he slowly returned to his meddling self.

honest question cause i don't remember. had gurley threatened to hold out? cause he had 2 years remaining on his contract.

yes,..you could get a team to take him …as a performer on the field, he’s a future HOFer and one of the very top impact players and game breakers in the entire NFL - but that NFL team could/would likely want a similar “ clause” that protects them from such a huge financial commitment from such social behavior concerns that could land zeke to another lengthy league suspension, one that
could find him losing 8 to 10 games .. (or more ?)

Sure technically we know it was typical Goodell politic BS, when his very own investigators declared that they could find no wrong doings with the assault issue - but one the players union mistakenly agree to give him the powers that be – but such is the case alone.

But counter that up with a close call Vegas incident, and there’s a reason why I could see a team on egg shells with zeke. But still that cannot exclude what he has done on the field and the level of which all other starting RBs could be measured by.

Which is less than what Demarco Murray accomplished before him. You're not 'great' when the two guys before you already had 'great' seasons. One of whom so great that Elliott has yet to match it.

- And messing up the market ? if it wasn’t going to be Gurley, it was going to be Levon Bell, … ..or it was going to be zeke,.. and eventually be Saquon Barkley, ... and so forth.
The market value, at ANY position is going to always change. Always going to go up and be set by another following player.
and I dunno why some people want to stay stuck on thinking players (especially players who have established and proven their elite status) should only get what they think he should get.

I'll advise you to do your homework as well. The Gurley deal didn't simply increase the running back market, it obliterated it. It screwed it up for the rest of the league. Do more research.

Exactly. As it's not simply a matter of money then either. It's once again not having one of your top players during a 16- game season where each and every game is huge. You don't get these seasons back.

Do it with the running back position, as he asked.

Likely not because it will prove his point to be entirely true.

No, because that was not my point. I said you could do that with every position. Because you are not going to have success pointing to Super Bowls because of one player on a team unless you are using Brady. He is the outlier.

I am talking about relative value to your team and when you look at today's salaries, the relative value that a Saquon Barkely or a Leveon Bell or an Ezekiel Elliot bring as a player on the field is comparable to a 20 mill receiver or a 13 mill LB. That is my opinion.

Marshawn Lynch was the last workhorse back to win a Super Bowl. I think in the last 5 years Edleman would be the closest you got to a top WR winning one. And he definitely did not get top WR money.

that's a big fear of mine. we give him the highest deal and if the market is reset by saquon or someone else, he goes back to wanting more....

He shouldn't have said anything. But there's sure no requirement to pay for that verbal mistake with a real one.

That's right, our feelings don't matter. One way or the other. But it's interesting to see how some people selectively feel differently depending on which side of the argument they're standing on.

And I'd check on that whole "left with squat" thing. Elliott has already been well paid since he's entered the league as the 4th overall pick. Nobody had a problem with it then.

I don't think Pollard alone can ever replace Elliott. I've ever said otherwise.

Workhorse running backs don't win Super Bowls. Therefore the point is that they are not essential to winning one. Committees are what are winning championships nowadays. And it is the very reason why running backs, and their salaries, have been minimalized.

Hate a proven system if you want. But that doesn't change the fact that it is a proven system.

NO not paid enough in his mind and that all that matters, you sure dont..

its why Luck can call it quits take that bonus money and live well.. like 100mil well and what played 4.5yrs, I thought it was running backs who got hurt and shouldnt be paid a lot.. lmao..right.. you are not Zeke and Zeke wants real guaranteed money.. Like AB, he was paid well but had no GM left and forced his way to 30mil guaranteed..

Zekes not alone, this is not a new concept..Lamar Miller lost his knee in preseason, zekes skipping reason doesnt need it where Amari, Martin, Smith, and others, Tank?? he wants guarantees against that type of injurys nd I dont blame him..

stop telling another man what he should take and whats enough..like I said at this point the last contract seems fair and I hope he takes it..but his holdout dosnt bother me a bit..

How do we know what SJ really meant by that comment anyway? Maybe he meant "I'm sure that's what Zeke and his agent will expect"...

I don't see where the Dallas FO is being selfish in offering Ezekiel an offer with a so-called "catch." Here's the thing: Zeke has not proven himself to be a player who truly merits a blockbuster commitment, at least, not in terms of guaranteed money.

His reliability factor simply isn't anything they can count upon from one season to the next. Zeke clearly appears to act as someone who would be quite satisfied to take his fortune, then rest upon his laurels, once he gets everything he wants.

I certainly don't blame the Dallas FO for doing all they can to keep Zeke's guaranteed money being affordably realistic. Doing otherwise simply would not be likely to serve them well in the long run, if the past is any indication at all.

More personal shots from another "butt hurt" Zeke fan?

Exactly. His personal decisions and life choices brought us here, nobody else's.

To be honest, I'm not crazy about this team placing the fate of its season on whether or not this guy learns how to behave himself.

I'm not comfortable relying on the unreliable.

If we are that close I think we’ll eventually ante up. 13, 14 , 15 million. 1 or 2 million isn’t that far apart .If it effects our Cap that much then we’re in trouble.

Make him the highest paid. 14.5 -15 million and lets play ball.

Nothing we didn’t already know. The ego maniac wants to be paid the highest in every aspect or it’s not good enough. Having a great O line is biting the Cowboys in the butt. If Zeke wasn’t so spoiled with O lines his entire career he wouldn’t even have the stats to be demanding these contracts.

Please trade him to Miami so we can see how good he really is without a top 5-10 line in front of him. I hope he chokes on a big piece of humble pie, not that he would actually touch a piece of pie with a word in it that’s foreign to him.

Houston. The Texans need a RB. He'll love that line.

Hate a proven system if you want. But that doesn't change the fact that it is a proven system.

Again, you can do this with any position group, WR's, LB,s QB,s. The proven system is not that a RB by committee wins Super Bowls. That is an opinion as well. The Patriots win because of many factors. Brady and coaching are the 2 main ones. Denver won because of defense. Philly did not win because they went away from Lesean McCoy as A RB. That is in no way proven.

Yes you can win a Super Bowl without a star RB, You can win a Super Bowl without an elite QB, You can win a Super Bowl without an elite WR. Would you say that not having an Elite WR is a proven system for winning the Super Bowl because that is currently the case based on you proven system?

I don't buy any of these so-called sources on contract offers being reported, been hearing them now for three weeks and nothing has materialized......the last comment by Steven Jones on the fan was that there wasn't much contact with regards to contract negotiations...

Which is less than what Demarco Murray accomplished before him. You're not 'great' when the two guys before you already had 'great' seasons. One of whom so great that Elliott has yet to match it.

I'll advise you to do your homework as well. The Gurley deal didn't simply increase the running back market, it obliterated it. It screwed it up for the rest of the league. Do more research.

and so what happened to Murray once he left Dallas? he never came even close to what he did in the Dallas.
and oddly more, nobody else wanted an eventual 29 year older after he retired, once Tennessee decided to cut him, because they see him no more than just a serviceable work horse ?

and with regards to not matching Murray's single record totals, remember the Cowboys easing down zeke's workload down the stretch in an effort to get him fresher for playoff run ( remember he didn't even play the last final games in 2016 and 2018)

LOL , and what's the point of research, homework when you know some other future all pro back would eventually be determined to set the RB market value, and as I pointed out earlier, it's not just the RB position, The market value has/is going to be set and in demand from several position roles around the NFL, OG, OT, TE, WR , QB, DE ..and so forth.

the only times I get puzzled and surprised by a "market setter" is a guy who has done zero in establishing an elite status or honorary measurements to justify being one of the highest paid at his position ala Niners QB Jimmy Grappolo, with just a bit more than a few handful of starting games with the Pats, that included being eventually IR'ed and then he is traded upon agreeing with one of the highest paid guaranteed sums and top contract by an NFL QB.

which BTW, once Dak's contract far exceeds this Grappolo contract and he either sets or comes close to setting the QB market, i expect people here to hiss, growl and moan about that as well, when that time eventually comes around
