I’m not arguing his GM skills or lack thereof.
But whether you approve or not, the owner’s job is to ensure the team is profitable. That’s why they BUY them. The Dallas Cowboys are the MOST profitable sport organization on the PLANET!

If you don’t think that’s HOF worthy, I don’t know what is?

Idk if an owners job is to make his organisation a profitable one. That of course is good for him, but to be successful as an organisation in what you do (eg having a winning sports team, selling the products your organsation produces etc...) i strongly question this thesis.

The lone definition of an organisation is NOT to be an institution which has to create profits (to be successfull). Profits are only something owners are looking for to get richer. Its an egoistitc value. Its their definition of being successfull as an individum. But not the definition of a successfull organisation.

I dont see JJ as an HOF owner. No! Because he is so successfull in making money for himself or helping the NFL create for revenue for all the other owners? Nope.

In fact in general i have a problem to see owners given a place in a HOF that should have persons inside which directly helped the team being successfull or had a great career directly related to the sport itself (players, Coaches). But not ones who only give the money.

When you watch a movie and think wow thats a great acting, greart directoring, great camera, lights, special effects. Who do you think gets the oscars for ? The producer who only gave the money for it ? No. The actors, the lights or special effects crew or the director. But not the one who made it profitable.

Good owner bad GM.
Thanks. I already essentially knew your answer based on past rhetoric and did not want to assume before getting confirmation BUT...
Basically so far about 30% get it this era. The rest are (a) either trolling, (b) don’t get it or (c) more casual type fans.
...these three have re-sparked my interest. The '30% get it' comment officially eliminates the Bad Owner/Bad GM option. If possible, would you match the final three poll options to your abc determinations?

He's a good owner because he genuinely thinks he's doing the best things possible to build a good team.

He's a bad GM because he's wrong.

He’s only doing the best he’s capable of.

He’s admitted he’d of fired someone with his record this era which is basically a confession his performance wasn’t acceptable.

It’s like many family business. We only have the best the Jones has to offer not necessarily the best the industry has to offer.

I’ve yet to find any opposing fan that would want Jerry as their owner or GM because having one means you have the other.

The Glitter has no meaning or significance without the Glamour.

I'm in the last category because it really depends how you are defining "Owner". If you are strictly looking at Owner/GM from the perspective of building a championship caliber football team, I'm in the Bad/Bad camp. But if I evaluate his performance as an owner the same way I'd judge my own success as a business owner, it would be Good/Bad (Great/Bad actually).

Jones lied in my opinion. It is a common narcissistic trait.
I’ve been in business . You want to run it yourself even if you know there might be others who could deliver greater performance.

He’s basically saying he understands there could be more qualified out there but he doesn’t care. It’s his baby. We must accept whatever he delivers.

It’s why he’s such an eternal optimist out in front over hyping and promoting his product but then has to go into Damage Control when it doesn’t meet those expectations.

And he makes these public admittance to illustrate he understands or gets it but isn’t willing to change his quest and passion. Only offering up scapegoats and sacrificial lambs.

I’m ok with this answer because at the end of the day the NFL is about making money. We’d all like to think it’s about winning football games and playing for championships but ultimately that’s only our ultimate goal not there’s.

There have been, are and will always be people in business. However, all business people do not share one singular personality. Or motivated in saying and doing things as a matter of groupthink.

What makes him a bad owner is what he's done to the team, the organization and its legacy.

What makes him a great owner is that he built the world's largest ATM solely on the backs of Cowboys fans that paid ridiculously high PSL fees and committed long term to ridiculously high ticket prices - who additionally paid ridiculously high parking fees in order to pay back the public loans.

So if I were a Cowboys fan, I don't know that I'd consider him a good owner using any criteria.
