Prescott will be here in 5 years, Jackson more than likely won't. Guys that play the game like Jackson don't tend to be all that successful in the playoffs. In my lifetime I've never seen a pure running quarterback win a Super Bowl until Russell Wilson, and he's not really a running quarterback because his running mostly consists of running around behind the line of scrimmage.

Jackson is Kaepernick. He lasted about 3 years, and that's a long time for guys like that.

I'll take Prescott any day over Jackson.
Jackson is probably in one of the very few places where he could be successful. They have said the heck with NFL offenses and keeping your QB safe. Most other teams would be coaching that out of him. The Ravens have designed their entire offense around his running. He’s improving with his passing, but don’t kid yourself and think he’d be successful in our offense or NE’s, or most others. He would not. Credit to that coaching staff for not only allowing him to take off when his quick read isn’t open, but also for changing their entire offense for him and bringing in a coach who had success with that in the past.

I don't see either Jackson or Wilson as a "pure running QB". They both can hurt you with their arms as well.

I think the concern with Jackson is injury. Running the ball that much will put him at risk to injury a lot more than other QBs.

Mike Vick, Randall Cunningham, Colin Kaepernick.

Those guys won't be able to run after a few years from all the injuries they'll sustain.

It's exciting while it lasts, but if you're aspirations or Super Bowl the averages say that type of quarterback won't be successful.

I'll take the pocket passers, and smart runners like Prescott any day of the week.
I never thought Vick was all that - not because he wasn't talented (he was as physically talented as any QB I ever saw), but because they were trying to run a structured offense and he was doing his own thing at the first sign of trouble. Accordingly, the offense wasn't cohesive. The difference with Jackson is they are making the running a key element in the offensive structure, and when he runs everyone is on the same page. When a pass play is called, he hangs in the pocket.

That said, while it makes for a better offense than Vick ran, it doesn't do any more to protect him from injury. He's going to take some hits.

Oh definitely. I’m just saying in win now mode, I’d take him. Long run wise? Prescott.

Anyone that runs the ball that much is going to get hurt. No I don't regard Wilson in the same category because he looks to dump the ball off at all times. His eyes are always looking downfield. He'll run a mile behind the line of scrimmage, and then toss it to a receiver and frustrate the heck out of defenders. Wilson also avoids contact.

Jackson looks to run. It's exciting don't get me wrong, and extremely demoralizing to defend, but coordinators eventually will adjust to that and shut him down.

Jackson reminds me of Kaepernick.

As far as runners Lamar is like having Christian mccaffrey back there, dak I'm not sure can beat Witten in a straight line race... Now dak is a big boy and hard to bring down once he gets going, so I agree they should call runs for him more, but personally I don't think they can play the same way. But I'm also laying on my couch as i type this lol

Put a package of Dak and Zeke together and try to trade them to Baltimore for Jackson. I think the laughing would be heard for hundreds of miles.

I originally had this same impression of Jackson, and my first instinct was to dismiss him as a novelty, but I watched some Ravens games and found that wasn't the case. Jackson looks to run because plays are called for him to run - and much more frequently than with any other QB. But when the play call is a pass he will do exactly what you mentioned that Wilson does - if he doesn't find a receiver quickly, he keeps looking and buys time with his legs until he finds someone to throw to. He is not a Michael Vick type that takes off running if he doesn't find a receiver immediately. He goes through his progressions. Accordingly, he is a true dual threat and not just a runner. That said, of course there will be some adjustments to him, but he's talented enough at both running and throwing that I don't see him simply being shut down. He's truly a great runner, so shutting him down as a runner will take more than just a small adjustment, and if a team focuses too much on keeping him from running, he can hurt them with his arm.

I saw him taking hits last night that made my ACL's, and ligaments hurt just watching. Seems to be a bubbly bouncy kid so we'll have to see how long that lasts.

I honestly wouldn't be against this trade...

You think they'd give us Jackson for Dak, Zeke, and maybe a 2nd round pick?

Jackson has the best defense in the league, speedy receivers playing at the top of their game and a dominant offensive line. Dak has none of that.

I'm not saying he won't take hits, and in fact I made that comment in previous posts. In my mind, the biggest factor that could limit his effectiveness is how long his body can hold up to that style of play.
