Why are we even fans of this franchise

I've been a Cowboys fan for so long there's nothing I can do about it. It's like it is part of my DNA now.

Jerry loves us old timers. No matter how frustrated we get we keep coming back for more.

From some of the in-game decisions that MM made last year, it is really hard to say that he is an improvement. With the exception of smashing that melon, I didn’t see much of an improvement over Garrett.

It will be a problem if he’s here 13 years. There’s no nepotism BS going on. Not thrilled with the in game decisions, but the Garrett situation was just ridiculous. He should’ve never been here to begin with. Then kept around after the 2010 debacle. Pure garbage for a decade plus.

I've been a Cowboy fan for 50 years.

In the first 25 years, 1970-1995, my Cowboys played in two NFL championship games, the equivalent of an NFC Conference championship game today, 14 NFC Conference Championships and 8 Super Bowls. They have been NFC champions 8 times and 5 time Super Bowl champions.

At one point the Cowboys had 20 consecutive winning seasons, an NFL record. Had the Patriots not had a losing season last year, they would have tied that record. On two different occasions, they have gone to 3 or more consecutive NFC championship games. They are one of only two teams to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. The first three Head Coaches in their history coached at least one Cowboy Super Bowl team.

During that time, they were the most popular, iconic, innovative, exciting sports franchise in the U.S. After 25 years, a guy kind of gets used to that.

Then, there is the polar opposite last 25 years. Why am I still here?

That star is forever imprinted on my memory. It's almost instinctive, see star, watch and listen. I wouldn't know how not to be a Cowboy fan. If you can run away, then that is your prerogative, but it is too late for me. I just wouldn't know how. There is always the hope that this year will be different and I am drawn in like a heroin addict looking for the rush of his first fix.

Pathetic? Perhaps, but I deserve your pity, not your condemnation.

A thread like this pops up usually once or twice every season. People often say that Cowboys' fans are bandwagon fans; I don't know why anyone would be a bandwagon fan of a team that hasn't won anything in almost 30 years.

For me, my mother was enamored with Roger Staubach even though none of us had ever stepped foot in Texas. I have polaroid pictures from the 70's of me at 18 months old with Cowboys' apparel. Here's the irony, when Jerry fired Landry in 89, my mom renounced the team but by then I was all in.
No that’s a great point. Why would anybody be a bandwagon fan of a franchise and hasn’t won anything in 30 years. You either a fan or you’re not totally agree

Because I'm not a bandwagon fan. I stick by my favorite teams through thick and thin. Cowboys, Spurs, Astros and Longhorns (football) are the only teams I care about and I don't waste my time with any others. Since A&M gave my daughter a scholarship I might have to start rooting for them now. I haven't decided yet. Lol

Sticking by the Cowboys through those late 70's and early 80's heartbreaking failures and then that 1-15 season, then turning it around to become the greatest team of all-time (Yes, I'm a homer) a few years later, that was very very satisfying. Same thing with my Spurs. David Robinson turned the Spurs into a contender after years of failure. I only wish Peter Holt would've been the owner then and not that cheapskate Red McCombs. Peter surrounded Tim Duncan with HOF players and solid role players, while Red McCombs brought in street ballers, old players that actually played in the ABA, malcontents and fired the only good coach we had, Larry Brown, and replaced him with a guy who sucked on towels and replaced him with John "George Jefferson" Lucas, who had no idea how to coach a team. But I stuck by them through 20+ years of failure and now we are considered one of the great franchises in professional sports.

Have faith my fellow Cowboy fans. The time is nigh! :starspin:

I'll be posting this on my facebook a thousand times this year. We've been teased way too long. It's our turn now! :flagwave:

Same exact teams for me.

If the NFL had MLB's financial system the Cowboys would be the Yankees.

No one could outspend them, but whether that money would produce more on the field than we're seeing now is in question. You still have to make the right personnel decisions.
And not pay huge amounts to guys who have never been able to stay healthy(Stanton)

still bitter over 1776,eh.

The truth cuts like a true rapier.
...
Yes, you responded in anger, home boi, but get your dates straight.
There is a world of difference between 1776 (a mere declaration) and 1783, when the treaty of Paris was signed to end the war.
In between was Yorktown in 1781.
Learn your important dates, Luther!
And, for God's sake, no more military wars against countries with more than 5,000 inhabitants. It's getting awkward for this great military power to be winless since 1945.

Very true! Those colors don't run! (Except Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.)

And ... maybe the Yanks could win at least ONE war since 1945???

We could have EASILY won those wars IF we had fought them like the past wars. If the media had been tagging along every step of the way during WWI & WWII, like it did the ones you're pointing out, we might not have won those big ones either. You can't win a war fighting with one hand tied behind your back. Take the battle of Mogadishu since I know a lot about that conflict. Mohamed Farrah Aidid KNEW we had our hands tied behind our backs. Somalia is mostly built on grass, mud and cow dung. We could've massacred Aidid's ragtag army in a day, like we did to Saddam's military in 1991 on the "Highway of Death" but people around the world would've lost their minds like they did then. In Iraq and Afghanistan, they hid in Mosques, hospitals, schools, and other places they KNEW we wouldn't touch. Hell we couldn't even shoot at them if we didn't see a gun on them. They would attack, then drop their guns and walk on home and their was nothing we could do about it. We have the power to destroy those countries if we really wanted to. Men wearing suits and ties shouldn't be fighting wars. War is terrible and I wish there was no such thing as war, but if you're going to fight in them, fight them to win it, because your enemy sure will. I'll add one more thing. If your enemy isn't abiding by The Geneva Convention, then you shouldn't have to either. Those 4 countries you listed didn't.

Way to derail a thread.

The fact that my family is from TX it's kinda just always been about the cowboys but for me the RB position got me going. It started with Calvin Hill and just kept getting better. Dorsett, Walker, Smith. Even guys like Felix and Julius Jones, Marion barber, and now Zeke make the game fun for me. The game has changed a ton over the years but some things don't change. If you can run and have the ability to stop the run, you'll always be tough to beat.
