I think Spears was coming on all year. SLOWLY, but noticeably. He was knocking down passes, getting an occasional pressure to add to his 2 or 3 sacks, and making some nice tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage.

He has a low centre of gravity and could be a good DT I believe. I might even suggest he bulk up 20-30 pounds or more and be a good NT.

I don't know about Carpenter. Not enough showtime to tell, with occasional flashes of "nice" and then "not so nice".

Of the 2, I think Spears has the most upside still. At least he hasn't regressed. Probably too expensive for a role player though, and might really shine in next year or two. But if you can fill a hole elsewhere, we are pretty deep on defensive front. Raitliff could move outside with Hatcher as backup. Canty looking strong. And Bowen has been a great role guy, and I think deserves some more playing time.

I like that they are fishing around a bit, if it's true. This team isn't as deep as we had hoped 2/3 of way through the season, and still has 3 or 4 obvious holes (number 2 receiver, backup/speed RB, CB #3 and maybe #4, and safety - maybe add punt returner).

Most teams always take the guy who is the best fit between need and the highest rated player on their board. That is how teams draft. Sometimes it doesn't work out, sometimes it does.

That is EXACTLY what we did when drafting Spears and Carpenter -- we took the guys who fit needs that were the highest rated on our board.

You can't pick and choose what to give and what not to give credit for -- this clearly breaks down to you refusing to give BP any credit for good picks and all the blame for bad ones.

So, the Cowboys would have the 15th, 22nd, and 29th overall picks in the first round.

They traded up for Chad Jackson a couple of years ago.....passing on Greg Jennings. Jackson is buried on the depth chart.....Jennings is starting in Green Bay.

Because

A. They are 16-0 and are on the verge of winning their 4th Superbowl
B. All teams make bad decisions but the majority of their decisions have been fruitful
C. These two were very controversial picks for the Cowboys at the time

None of the other university of California schools are referred to formally or informally as "Cal" this or "Cal that" -- they are all called UC this or UC that
