None of the other university of California schools are referred to formally or informally as "Cal" this or "Cal that" -- they are all called UC this or UC that

BTW -- just went next door to a collegue's office - his degree on the wall clearly says University of California at Berkeley -- no mention of CAL whatsoever.

Most teams always take the guy who is the best fit between need and the highest rated player on their board. That is how teams draft. Sometimes it doesn't work out, sometimes it does.

You are being presumptuous. That's not every team's philosophy toward the draft. Bill Walsh and the 49ers were famous for not drafting for need. They drafted the best player availablee. Dennis Green did the same. Some teams outright draft for need as the Eagles did when they drafted back to back corner in the first two rounds years ago

That is EXACTLY what we did when drafting Spears and Carpenter -- we took the guys who fit needs that were the highest rated on our board.

Exactly, and the outcome of those decisions were flawed regardless of the reasoning behind them.

You can't pick and choose what to give and what not to give credit for -- this clearly breaks down to you refusing to give BP any credit for good picks and all the blame for bad ones.

You absolutely pick and choose what to give credit for. BP drafted excellent players like Ware and Canty but he also drafted busts like Spears and Carpenter. The point is to look at it objectively instead of picking sides You obviously seem biased toward Parcells so you are rationalizing his poor decision to draft Carpenter and Spears instead of simply admitting he made a mistake drafting these two

Probably because his team was the #1 seed in its conference, has 12 pro bowlers and 3 all pros at the moment. He can only put the team together. He can't run the routes and catch the balls for them.

The only reason they were the #1 seed instead of being 5-11 still is because he finally replaced idiot Lacewell with someone like BP. What's surprising is that even with the bad picks, Jacob Rogers, Carpenter, etc., Bill was still able to turn this thing around.
