This thread should be moved to the Schools That May or May Have Not Changed Their Names and the Confusion That Causes Zone...

Calling it Troy is correct.

Calling it Troy St. is not the most wrong thing anyone could possibly do since that was the name they went by for years.

You don't refer to Indiana University as Indiana St. University because they are two different schools. Troy and Troy St. are the same school with two names, one being the most current. Next year it could be Troy A&M or Troy Tech.

I am not one to give up on players early either but I would probably agree that it would be a good idea for everybody involved if we found a new home for Carpenter. I just don't know that he will ever see the field here. Heck, I don't even know if we could get a 1st day pick for him but if we could trade him for a second day pick, that would help. The pick is not the value here. The cap relief would be the play. Same deal with Spears. Spears is in a numbers game IMO. I think that Fergy and Tank are probably the NTs and maybe we bring somebody in via draft or just use Ratliff as the 3rd guy. We are loaded at DE IMO. Hatcher, Canty, Ratliff, Bowen and maybe even Ellis if that's what we wanted to do. You could even probably go 4 man and slide Ware down, if you wanted to. There are lots of options there. Spears just might be a numbers game thing.

I still refer to Texas State as Southwest Texas State Teachers College and to Texas A&M-Kingsville as Texas A&I.

it doesn't help to keep arguing a point that is obviously flawed

Motion seconded.

Also "Anal Retentiveness Fun-time Thread" can be an acceptable alternative.

Oh....hai 2 u, Mr. Offseason.

What is the flaw? That minor misspeaks occur.

it ends being a minor misspeak the second you prolong it, then it becomes straight up being uninformed, until finally you make crap up like our boy abersunk here

Seriously, who cares?
Is this what it's come to in the offseason?

The one that gets me is Southwest Texas State University dropping the directional and claiming to be Texas State University, as if that's going to move them up there with Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State, etc, or at least on par with Texas, A&M, etc.

I saw that scroll across the bottom of BSPN and thought, "there is no university called 'Texas State University'".

I figured I'd try and derail the thread further, as if that's even possible at this point.

Unless you can get something that is concrete in terms of helping the team, I would be hesitant to trade either, simply because we've been very lucky in terms of health at those two positions.

What happens if Canty or Ratliff go down? Or if Fergy goes down again (as he is old) and Ratliff has to move back to NT? Line and LB depth are critical to the 3-4.

I think with Carpenter, his biggest problem is taking on blocks or attacking blockers. I think that is why he hasn't been getting the PT. Hopefully this year he can do something, he showed promise at the end of his rookie year.

i hate this kind of arguement. you cant count on someone getting hurt. what if ware got hurt? what is romo got hurt.

Oh, you are referring to a specific case. I was thinking more in general if someone said "Ware played at Troy St." I don't think the world would fall apart, but this forum might. :D

Everyone knows that when you say Troy, you mean USC!

Now, back to the subject.

Spears a wasted pick? You gotta be kidding me! He may not be all world, but he is a solid starter. He is solid against the run and not bad bringing pressure. A 3-4 DE is not going to get a lot of sacks. He takes up blockers and allows the OLB to come. He does that job well. Do we have better? I don't know. Maybe moving Ratliff to that spot would gain us something, maybe not. Standing pat with Spears is a good thing.

Carpenter? Everyone says that Carp is a bust. But if I recall, about 60% of the posters here at the time thought we should take him when we did. I would be interested in seeing posts form back in the day just to see who advocated we take him and are now calling him a bust.

Give the guy a break. It is not like Parcells allowed him to settle in to learn. Even in last TC, Carp was asked to play some OLB because no one knew what was going to happen with Ellis. Phillips based his opinion of him on one preseason game when Carp was hurt. The fact that he is playing just says a lot about James, Ayodele and Burnett.

Now do I think Ayodele is the answer. Not really. Burnett is good on the nickel, but that is about it. Carp played well his rookie year. They kinda screwed him up with the move inside. I really like his special teams play and don't believe any of us has seen enough of him to say he lacks heart.

Would I package him in a deal for Roy W. from Detroit? In a minute. But that is because I want Williams, not because I think little of Carp.
