Dak and Tua are the established NFL QBs up for extensions. I suspect both expect to be paid commensurate with their peers. The alternative is their respective teams decide they are not part of the franchise’s future. Prescott’s representation negotiated his current contract to put him in a position to be able to dictate terms. Do you believe Dak’s agent did that work only to tell his client he “NEEDS” to accept $35-$40 million per year? He’d be paid less than two of the QB’s in the same division despite having outperformed both. I think his agent would like to sign additional clients. Shortchanging Dak would hardly enhance his reputation. Jerry Jones isn’t the only person in the coming negotiation with an ego.
Jerry needs to put his foot down against every player getting paid the most. You get your big contract the 1st time around. Fine. The 2nd time around if you're still around and want to remain, you give the team a discount. Don't like it? Hit the road, Jack! The team will move on without you! Good luck getting paid the highest elsewhere.

2024 Update: Purdy 800k, Love 12M, Dak 59M

Dallas:
Dak Prescott would have had to be significantly better than both Purdy and Love in the playoffs, he was less than both.
The clear and obvious solution is to make Dak the highest paid QB in the league.

Purdy in 2026, Love in 2025. I wonder if they get 50-60M a year with 30-35M cap hits?
If so let's compare apples to apples then and see how good their roster is.

It's not a fair fight in the NFC right now, especially with Purdy.

They should win it all this year
If Purdy just reaches the SB he’ll definitely be in line for $50+M. He’ll be appearing in his second conference title game. Love will also be in line for a huge payday if the Packers continue to win. The price tag on QB’s continues to skyrocket. You have to pay good QBs if you want to compete.

I don't even need to rebut this. You're straight up blaming the defense for giving up points on a possession that started on our 18 yard line due to a Dak int.

I'll let your words stan(d) on their own merit.
Great defenses (which we were supposed to have) hold them to a FG.

I guess those teams are moving on from those guys come their payday?

Purdy looked booty at multiple times last night. He won a playoff game, though. And he will get paid come contract extension.

All these anti-pay-player threads seem to side-step what a team is supposed to do when the current cheap QB's next contract is due.

Seems convenient to side-step it if the main goal is to not make sense and just push a narrative/agenda.

Wish the mods would help out with some of these threads/posts that dont make sense and dont provide quality content.

He needs to give them a discount for what? So Stephen can pocket the money? We didn't do anything when Dak was on the rookie contract, nor did we go all in during Dak's whole stay here. I don't think any major player is giving Jerry and the boys a discount because they haven't shown to be good stewards of the money. Dak should make a demand that he'll give the team a discount if they hire an actual GM.
If dak would do that, he'd be a june 1st cut for sure. You think Jerry would choose Dak over his ego?

KC, Buff and Baltimore all pay high and all get high QB playoff production.
The model doesn't work without the production, see Dallas.

Getting playoff production with a rookie salary is the ultimate model if you can do it.

SF has the best roster, and a big part of that is Purdy's contract.

Great QBs (which we supposedly have) don't put their defense in that position and then throw a pick 6 two series later

They also don't fail to break the 90 yard barrier in the first half of 4 of their last 5 playoff starts

It’s very difficult to get good playoff production with a QB on their rookie deal unless you have a great team. SF was in the SB just a few years ago with Jimmy G so they clearly have a team where their QB isn’t having to carry them but it caught up with them in the SB against a team with a great QB. It likely will catch up with them again if Purdy faces Lamar Jackson. SF had a great roster before Purdy, which is why Jimmy G had success. He went to a team that didn’t have a great roster and got benched.

Only thing this confirms is that we should've loaded the team while Dak was on a rookie contract but we didn't.

Purdy and love will both get even higher contracts in the near future
Yep. Real missed opportunity. Seahawks made two Super Bowls and won one while Russell Wilson was on his rookie deal. And then the team never had the talent around him after that. They had a 2-3 year window and they took advantage of it. We’re probably gonna blow our shot to build a defense around Micah Parsons too.

The advantage of not having to pay a top tier QB 40-50M is you can spend more
in other area's to build a great roster, especially with a competent GM
The disadvantage is you probably don't have a great QB in a QB league.

If you do get good or great QB play from a FA or a rookie with a roster like SF's, it's very dangerous.
SF got pretty good production from Jimmy G and great production from Purdy for 1M.

SF will crush the AFC in the SB, IMO

Defense was horrid. Never did a thing to help us win that game.

At least Dak got on track and tried to get us back but the defense could never get a stop and actually got worse.

After it got to 48-16 the Packers pulled almost all their top guys on defense (Gary, Kenny Clark, Preston Smith, Quay Walker, etc) so essentially it was Dak/Cowboys offense vs the Pre-season squad.

I don’t place any value on what Dak did from that point forward and I think it’s dangerous to take ANY solace from the stats put up from that point forward.

Others have mentioned that, and I’ve been through all of it. It’s very difficult to compete for a championship without a top-tier QB. There’s no guarantees you can build a great roster without having to pay a top-tier QB. No one will beat Baltimore in the Super Bowl if they continue to play the way they have. They have a great playmaking QB who is the leagues MVP, and they have the number one ranked defense. Stroud could do little against that defense and I would easily take him over Brock Purdy, or Love.

“Hit the road” is an option. This would be the moment. Eagles are regressing, Giant and Commanders are at least another season away from being legitimate contenders. I just don’t see Jerry Jones inclined to take a step back right now. Perhaps if he were younger.

SF got crushed at home by Baltimore just a few weeks ago. Their defense made Purdy’s life a living hell. He tossed 4 INTs. He pretty much got benched. No one will beat the Raven’s the way they’re playing. They’re the one’s that will be doing the crushing.

If Jimmy G turned out to be a star and they signed him to 45M a year, they probably wouldn't have
McCaffery, Hargrave, Chase Young etc to name a few.

SF has the best roster in football right now with Purdy on a cheap contract

Yes Lamar is better than Purdy, we'll see how much that matters if they play in the SB

Barring a massive curveball, Daks not leaving. We are saddled with his contract. We are strapped with this and its a stumbling block to us winning and building a better team. The curveball is IF Trey Lance impresses and is the starter, making Dak tradable. If we are starting Lance, it will be a rough go. He is basically a rookie. Hes never really started any meaningful games. Its not as if hes Jordan Love and hes been getting coached up.

The best sure fire way to build a championship team is with an elite QB. If Baltimore and San Francisco rematch, I’m confident the Raven’s defense will make Brock Purdy‘s life miserable like they did several weeks ago. He would have a difficult time out playing Jackson who can kill you in so many ways.
