Again, someone show me where he is considered a great blocker. I'm not saying he isn't I'm just saying this is the only place I'm seeing that. If he indeed is I'll really like the pick, But what is this based on?
The Cowboys themselves have been telling media members he was the best blocking TE in the draft.

He’s a 25 year old man though blocking 19 and 20 year olds haha.

He can definitely block but the Cowboys keep saying he’s the best blocking TE.

Darnell Washington was far and away the best blocking TE regardless of what the Cowboys tell you.

Now Schoonmaker might be a better move blocker but 1 v 1 there is no comparison between him and Washington.
I love how you are now defending blocking as being so important when you kept saying meh to Mayer who is also considered a very good blocker
And most of the draft sites said Mayer was better at blocking for all but Washington.
I just love how you are twisting in the wind and yet still trying to act like you were right

I can confidently say that he won’t be a bust.. I’m just not confident he’ll validate a 2.
Agreed, but there's one thing, and that is for some players it's a matter of motivation. As a (albeit weak) parallell, I was just an average student in grammer school/junior high, but my first semester in high school I scored straight A's and ended up finishing very high in my class. Seems I was pretty much just bored before high school, no big challenge. But when I got to where I had to really "hit the books", I did much better.

Maybe the guy is affected by who's around him and just was cruising along in college, now that it's his livelihood on the line, he'll "perk up".

Probably not, but whoever thought Bill Bates would play for Dallas so long and even make a Pro Bowl?

I'll give the kid a shot, like any player....

What do you EXPECT them to say? NEED I remind you they ALWAYS defend their picks; even the obviously bad ones.

I didn’t like Mayers value.

Mayer was a nice solid TE prospect that didn’t have round 1 talent in my opinion.

The NFL agreed with me. I also said Laporta is as good if not better than Mayer.

CATCH was right. We move on.

You think were passing it to get to the SB? Have you seen Dak Prescott in playoff games? He's not that good at it without a run game or protection.
You need a smart and balanced attack. You aren’t doing it being one dimensional. You can’t hide a quarterback in the playoffs. You just can’t.

Well I don’t know if you were right but I heard David Moore say the Cowboys had La Porta as the best tight end on their board. Which is interesting since these YouTube GMs and “experts” had it Kinkaid and Mayer as the best.

I am talking about opinions from before he is drafted, not biased ones. I don't believe what they say after he is selected. Of course they are going to try and pump him up as a good pick and especially if they are hearing negative feedback on him. When I looked at all the TEs he stood as an above average to good blocker with the potential to be good at the NFL level based on attitude and want to. I never got any vibe of him being a "great" blocker and certainly not the best blocking TE in the draft. I hope he is and that would absolutely change my opinion on him. I just want to see it from some objective sources. Again, I'm looking for opinions because I don't have one from my own personal opinion.

Mayer is a better blocker
Washington a much better blocker
Schoonmaker a nice player. He could develop into a nice role player
He’s already 24 but at that point he was as good a player at TE as you could probably get

I think Mayers blocking was overrated. Not as good as people made it out to be.

Schoonmaker looks like a better blocker to me.

Like i said he is Jason Witten 2.0 in terms of abilities. Great Blocker, smart Player. Great Catch Radius but cant break a tackle or get an extra yard if you need to.
I assume you're referring to Witten's latter years.

The more I watch, the more I see it. No more being pushed around like Schultz was blocking

I like the player myself.

I’m just questioning the value.

This is the type of guy I think has similar production to Mayer if given the same opportunity.

Dallas looks like we’ll have a heavy committee at TE though.
