So a 25-year-old run-blocking TE in the 2nd round is better than a 23-year-old potential starting OG???? Okay.
What is the maximum age one can enlist in the Army and become a full fledged grunt - later retire at the proper time with a retirement fully earned? 27?

Tell me how Bill Bellichick always drafts the best CB this year at what, 17... and I wouldn't attempt to sign a veteran that KC's Reid gave up on.

I am enjoying you being forced to reach for something to justify the pick; when in fact we got a poor mans Mayer.

Just love how you must be grinding your teeth
Actually we got a better blocker and better athlete than Mayer.

Did Jerry and company know he had an AC joint problem in college?

But this is another of Jerry's "I'm going to show everybody this guy is better than everybody else thought they were, we're just smarter than everybody else, ya'll just don't understand this guy is better than Mayer, Kincaid or anybody else". Lol.

Though it's not a bad pick if it's in the third or later rounds, Walter Football had him as their 7th rated TE, but second round is too high....

The problem is most don't understand the pick and poo-poo it.

Once they see this kid, especially his run blocking, they will like him.

The Cowboys want to run the ball and he is a road grader and good receiver also.

Better blocking TE than what we have. Cowboys clearly want to win the trenches this draft.
Totally agree with your premise but nothing I read states he is a great blocker = I see a lot of average and OK and willing to. I don't have much of an opinion on his blocking of my own so going off what I'm seeing. Are you saying he is a very good blocker?

Also, on your last comment, we do have a good blocking TE in McKeon right now.

He's not a project. He started for more than 4 years because of the viral thing. He played in one of the most prostyle systems in the NCAA.
He will start because he is the best blocker of our TE's. Him and Ferguson are probably close as recievers, but Schoonmaker is the better overall. I expect all three TE's to be involved this year

Guess this is JJ's way of making up for missing on Kincaid? Seems like a luxury pick
No, just Jerry trying to show he's smarter than every other gm, and that the other teams all mis-judged this guy.

Seems he does that nearly every draft, picks somebody ahead of where nearly every other person had him pegged.

Oh, well, he appears to be a fairly smooth receiver, he at least has some skills, would rather a guy like him than drafting an injured player...

Horrid pick.

Draft picks are commodities. Those trying to rationalize/justify this pick for a 25-26 year old blocking TE is just like spending $90,000 on a Kia Sorento and then arguing “it’s just what I need; reliable transportation.”
Now he is 26!!! Or is that just for dramatic effect? He's 24.

I'm not excited by the pick, but I think people trying to go out of their way to complain about picks is worse than those trying t rationalize them. Nothing wrong with not liking a pick but don't trash a guy as a horrible pick until he at least puts on a uniform But, maybe that's just me.

LOL.

I mean dude you aren’t even hiding your hate for Mayer.
He is a better blocker and athlete though.

Mayer went about where he should have. Dude got overrated during the draft process and fortunately for all of you I identified it for all of you.

Thanks CATCH…

I can confidently say that he won’t be a bust.. I’m just not confident he’ll validate a 2.

I guess what gives me hope is that he’s such a off the charts athlete for a 6’6 TE.

Nice!!! Best blocking TE in the draft and in his prime at 24 years of age! Leggo COWBOYS
He’s not the best blocking TE in the draft
24 year old who needs to develop at his position

By the start of the season, he'll be eligible for Social Security.

The more I read about him, the more I like him.

There's obviously much more to playing tight end than this, but I was curious how his size, speed and blocking matched up against Kincaid and Schultz.

Schoonmaker
6'6" 249 lbs
4.63 40 time
Great blocker

Kincaid
6'4" 240 lbs
4.71 40 time
Average blocker

Schultz
6'5" 244 lbs
4.75 40 time
Average blocker
Again, someone show me where he is considered a great blocker. I'm not saying he isn't I'm just saying this is the only place I'm seeing that. If he indeed is I'll really like the pick, But what is this based on?

He can definitely block but the Cowboys keep saying he’s the best blocking TE.

Darnell Washington was far and away the best blocking TE regardless of what the Cowboys tell you.

Now Schoonmaker might be a better move blocker but 1 v 1 there is no comparison between him and Washington.
