Just because they tendered him doesn't mean that they can't sign him to a long term deal this offseason. All that is is a marker. Considering that the team is still over the cap as we speak, they went with a second round tender to save over a million against the cap prior to the FA period.
Is 1mil really a big deal? When has dallas used a rd2 tender on a starter?

When you are 8 million over, every million counts. They put second round tenders on Blake Jarwin and David Irving in the past.

Imo they should have put the 1st round tender on him. Somebody picking at 62 could easily give that up.

Hes worth more than that to us imho
IF we choose not to match the contract

Other teams cant just sign him out, they can sign him to an offer sheet that we can match

Lol whoa, looks like they might be getting a 2nd round pick this yr. Think this might be more with Tryon than Steele. Could easily see tyron play 3 more yrs he's only 32.
Yeah but 3 years for Tyron is only 6 games…

What makes you think they wouldnt match

I think everybody is just suprised they went with the 2nd round tender. Because they always use the first round tender for starters. Especially a spot like rt. And given the draft is pretty weak in quality tackles. That and Jones coming out and saying he's ahead of schedule has people wondering.

Steele graded out as the 23rd best tackle this yr. Tyron Smith ranked as the 5th best tackle in 2021. It's a yr before but just shows you how great he is

Hard to be the man when you are always hurt.
Tyron missed games in 2021 and still was the 5th rated tackle in the nfl. In 2022 he came back from a injury he had no business coming back from in 2022. He's the man period.

Yeah he's been hurt. It let's you appreciate when he's playing that much more. Because when he's playing he's not playing hurt, or if he is it doesn't show. It be different for me if he got hurt came back and played bad.

When's on the field he's top 3-5 in the nfl. 2020 and 2022 look bad. But other than those 2 yrs, he missed 5 games in 2021 and what 3 yrs where he missed 3?

Ummm, no. Steele isn’t better than Tyron. Not even close. Is Steele above average and maybe even good? Yes. Tyron is still the man.
Steele grades out higher in run blocking. Tyron much better in pass pro.

Grading Tyron on the right side might be different, however.

The last time I remember them using a 1st round tender was Barber. They used round tender on Irving and Austin when they were RFA's. A 2nd round tender doesnt mean we are more likely to lose him. It just means we dont have to commit as much money if we dont extend him. If someone offers him an offer sheet, they will match it.

If you can get a 2nd round pick, you have to consider it. If he comes back healthy and has another good year there’s a very good chance he’s going to cost $15+M when he’s a free agent next year
