A&M Leaving Big 12

And they aren't doing this because of Texas anymore since the NCAA already ruled high school games can't be shown on university or conference channels, ever

Do you have a source for this? All I've read is that the Big 12 told them they couldn't show high school games this coming season, until it's reviewed further by both them and the NCAA.

AUSTIN (AP)—The Texas Legislature will hold a hearing next week on possible realignment of college conferences in the state.

The hearing is set for Tuesday in the Texas House Committee on Higher Education and comes amid speculation Texas A&M is leaving the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference.

The committee says Commissioners Dan Beebe of the Big 12 and Mike Slive of the SEC are to testify, as are Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin and A&M system board of regents chairman Richard A. Box.

Texas A&M considered switching to the SEC last year before staying in the Big 12. The university has not confirmed it is again discussing a jump to the SEC, but talk has been intensifying that the Aggies are looking to leave.

I hate to see them go but don't make idle threats, do it or shut up. You don’t like the Longhorns network then start your own gig’em Aggies network but don’t sit there crying and making threats

I agree!!!! I hope they will still play us! If they think they will make more money in the sec than they are right now, they have a rude awakening ahead! The sec will bleed them dry! Good riddance! And whoever else wants to leave, LEAVE!

Your AD has said he will take his ball and go home and pout if A&M leaves, promising to not play us anymore.

As for the money, well, you're just wrong. Bleed us dry? What does that even mean?

Y'all can't compete, from year to year, in any sport with the Big XII now! What makes y'all think you will be competitive there? Was A&M holding out on the Big XII? Saving your best efforts for the sec? The sec will drain you of what little talent you have!

Really? A&M has had the highest rated overall athletic program in the Big XII for the past two years. Last year we finished ranked in every single sport except volleyball and won four national titles.

Still waiting to hear how the SEC will "drain us of money"

Dodds expects Big 12 survival

By Kirk Bohls

Fri Aug. 12, 5:35PM
Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds told the American-Statesman on Friday that it appears to him that Texas A&M is leaving for the Southeastern Conference but said he thinks the Big 12 can survive, perhaps with as few as nine teams.

“They’ve got to do what’s best for them,” Dodds said of the Aggies. “We’re going to look at every option we’ve got, and we’re going to end up in a good place. That’s what we do. We’re good at that.”

Dodds told me that he and his staff have been in contact with the other eight Big 12 schools, and the remaining nine teams are already exploring possible replacements for A&M.

“I think nine’s an option,” Dodds said. “I think nine are solid. I think 10’s a good number. I’ve always liked 10. In my mind, we’d try to stay at 10. If we had to, we’d go to 12.”

Dodds said he didn’t know if Texas would continue to play A&M if the Aggies bolt to the SEC.

“That’s one I cannot answer,” he said. “If they leave the conference, we would consider things sport by sport. There are more people involved in that decision than me. Our coaches have to be involved.”

From the Statesman

The Big XII won't last. Missouri will look to leave once A&M does, OU and Okie State are already contacting the Pac-12, and deep down Texas has wanted to go independent all along so they can have free reign with their network.

Past two years? That's great! What about the other 20 years? Did I say money? You will see! Stay tuned! It's about to get real interesting for delusional A&M fans!

Have fun playing Iowa State and Baylor every year on a network that will located somewhere between home and gardening and the Mexican talk show channels on people's cable plans until this thing falls apart and you're forced to scrap together an independent schedule, we'll be playing nationally televised CBS games against Bama, LSU and Florida and counting our money.

:lmao: Keep counting!! It still won't equal what we will be depositing!

And people will be watching no matter where the channel is located! From coast to coast!

You havent even found a local provider to pick it up yet, let alone a national one

It is ESPN dude! I think they will be able to find one. ESPN would not have invested in something they thought would fail.

going past the nonsense you two are spouting, i can assure you i read it in the AAS that the NCAA had ruled no high school games would be allowed on university or conference channels. Also, he said he wasnt sure if they would continue to play TAMU, that it would be taken in a sport by sport basis and wasnt his decision to make, i dont see how thats "taking the ball home".

as for the SEC "bleeding the aggies" thats just plain ridiculous. they would immediately dominate pretty much every sport besides the big 3, they would be towards the top in basketball and baseball.

But in my opinion, (and again, this is just my opinion, no one really knows what will happen for sure), they will struggle in football and give LSU a bigger foothold in their recruiting territory. at the same time they wont be Vanderbilt either. i see them being competitive but never winning the conference, much like mississippi state or arkansas.

i personally kind of hope they leave because i want this whole big 12 thing to get settled already, its like when colorado and nebraska left, the house fell and all the parts havent settled yet, i hope this will settle it once and for all.

from what ive read (and this is more unreliable than the other things ive heard above) OU and Okie state want to stay in the big 12 (OU dominates this conference, why would they wanna leave?) and that there is a list of about 20 schools already that Texas and OU have discussed about bringing in, most likely it will be Houston.

they want to keep it at 10 members for whatever reason, but i wish they would add UH, TCU and arkansas or boise state, then go back to a conference championship game, but this time having OU and texas in different divisions so that it would be possible to have them play in conference title games

as for the longhorn network being picked up, most new channels dont get picked up right away, but im it will be by the time the rice game rolls around. Even the NFL network doesnt get shown on every provider, and at first most didnt carry it. The channel hasnt even launched yet, it will take some time for it to take hold. i believe they will put it in some sort of sports package at first until the next time ESPN's contract with various providers is up i think they will try to get them to include it with slightly higher than basic channels like ESPNU, ESPN classic, etc
