I don't know...and I've never claimed to know. But I don't think it's as simple as saying "Roy sucks" either. It's one of the most mind-boggling things I've seen this year.

However, I'm not interested in pointing the finger and laying blame. There's enough people doing that. Suggesting he should be cut, traded, etc does NOTHING to help the team this year and it's just wasted energy as far as I'm concerned.

I want them to get it together, because it can only help the 'boys if they do. And to me, that's all that matters.
Bravo.

Shut yo mouf, :) you are going to ruin the lenchmob's agenda. Never mind it is a stupid agenda.

It is in the Cowboy's best interest that they get in sync, this won't happen with Roy on the bench.

Just in case this hasn't been posted anywhere.

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/news.cfm?id=C1CF0334-F18C-60F7-AEF27AC3B34E33A1

IRVING, Texas - The Cowboys are ranked second in the NFL in total offense through the first seven games, but their No. 1 wide receiver entering the season -- Roy Williams -- has only 14 catches for 249 yards and two touchdowns.

Williams wasn't angry on Wednesday, his designated interview day at Valley Ranch. He calmly answered questions about his current role in the offense and praised the unit for its versatile production (eight players have caught or rushed for touchdowns).

But naturally Williams is frustrated that he hasn't found a rhythm with quarterback Tony Romo since arriving in a trade from Detroit last October. In 16 games since, he has caught 33 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns.

"I'm the No. 1 receiver," Williams said, "but things are just going No. 2's way right now."

That would be Miles Austin, whose 482 yards in the last three games are the most in NFL history by a receiver in his first three starts.

Above all else, Williams says he's excited the Cowboys are winning and making plays on offense. But he's also uncertain why he and Romo remain out of sync. The two appeared to make steady progress in training camp and preseason after Williams' first off-season with the team.

Williams caught a touchdown pass in last Sunday's win over Seattle, but others were thrown too high or behind him. He was targeted seven times and finished with two catches for 19 yards.

"I anticipated us rolling right now," Williams said. "I mean, we're rolling in the win column, yeah. But as far as me and Romo's connection . . . getting better though, getting better.

"I'm still working. I'm still doing the things I'm supposed to do in the ball game. We're just not even close."

It's not due to lack of work. Head coach Wade Phillips has praised both players' talents and work habits in practice. Williams said he only takes practice reps with Romo, not backup Jon Kitna.

"I'm not mad at anything by no means," Williams said. "I'm getting my chances. It's just not connecting. I'm not going to rant and rave and be pissed off. I'm going to continue to work."

The Cowboys' three-game winning streak, as well as the offense's success (four games over 30 points) has helped Williams' spirits.

"That definitely makes it easier, and all those guys are coming through for us. It's a great offense," he said. "I can pout and be mad and not participate but I'm still out there run-blocking and trying to screen the runners to score and all that stuff.

"It's fun. It's fun to watch this offense go."

Williams just wants to do more himself to keep the offense going.

The guy doesn't sound like a prima donna to me. As can be expected, he sounds frustrated that he hasn't contributed much in the teams recent success as a pass catcher. Based on everything we've heard from those who are around the team on a daily basis, he works hard and has put the necessary time with his QB. Romo doesn't have the same problem with other WRs but then again they've been together for about three years or so. It's just a matter of time before something clicks.

I agree, and I hope and think will they get in sync, but there is also the possibility that they never do, so the question is, when do you pull the plug?

I won't argue with Roy on this one. I agree.

Passes to him seem to be off (high, low (In the ground), behind, etc). Hurd's pass wasn't exactly on target, he did a helluva job stretching out to grab it though.

Witten has an unusual number of drops this season. Unusual b/c we're used to seeing him catch pretty much everything. But a lot of his drops have been on passes that weren't really on target.

...ok, let me get my fire suit on before y'all begin.

After reading through half of this thread, finally a shred of common sense.

For all the "Roy Sucks" crowd - you fail.
For all of the "Roy is a cancer" crowd - you fail.

I've never been a Roy Williams fan, but he surely doesn't deserve this.

They guy is trying to defend himself in his home state. It's obvious that he feels he isn't being used the best way and that he feels Romo hasn't delivered the ball to him the way it should be.

I still think Romo is learning to read the field and defenses. Right now he's best when it seems he locks in on a receiver or when a play breaks down and he improvises. He doesn't look to be as effective when throwing on timing and making all of his reads.

The reason I say this is that it seems every week there looks to be receivers open that he simply doesn't see, or see on time. In some cases he sees them late and then tries to fire one in. Those seem to be the throws that are off. And those are the throws that seem to be the ones directed towards Roy. It's as though Roy is always the second or third read for Romo, even if the play is intended for that progression or not.

We've heard rumblings from players about Romo's decision making when finding the open receiver, even going back to last year. We heard it from TO. We've heard it from Bennett and we're hearing it from Roy.

Could all this just be sour grapes on the part of these players? Sure.

But we have all seen Romo struggle the early part of the year. Passes have been off to more than just Roy. And open receivers have been missed or overlooked.

Honestly, without knowing what plays are called we really have no idea what is going wrong when something doesn't work.

But the bottom line is still winning. And they are doing that. I just want to see Romo play big when we play against the better teams. The last three games haven't been against top rated defenses. You can get away with locking in on one or two guys if that's the case. You need to be able to see the whole picture when playing against a team capable of taking away your top threats.

This week will be a real test for our offense, Romo in particular. The Eagles won't allow Austin the same type of comfort level he's had these last two games and I'm sure they'll be keeping on eye on Witten as well. This puts the onus on Romo to find that third or fourth option, and on time, with an accurate throw.

The relevance of exactly what he is saying is so lost on the up in arms crowd it's not funny. They'd have thrived in Salem.

Oh, and TwoDeep3, no you aren't the only one who sees that.

Still no audio Roy actually saying those quotes.

I believe he said it, but it would go a long way in determining the context.
It doesnt matter how He said it...The Bottom line is what idiot talks about this right before the biggest game the season? Not to mention a 5-2 squad that is playing good. Good job at putting more pressur on your QB. To me Roy Williams is another ME first type of player that doesnt know when to put a trap on his big mouth.

He didn't.

Read the article on the previous page. Specifically the part I quoted.

Right, .. I have not been able to find any video or audio of RW saying these things. I want to see it for myself.

I have always thought that he comes off in his interviews as a little peculiar, no matter what he is saying or talking about. He always acts like he knows something that he is not saying, or he is holding back or something.

I would like to see him say these things, like you said, to determine the context.

I can't believe this is 30+ pages long. I'm not gonna read every page. I just don't see where the story is at here. So what if Roy was playing Mr. Obvious with the media. It read as relatively harmless to me.

He gets the ball thrown correctly his way," Williams said of Austin. "I'm stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who's been here's balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now."

What sort of context could that be in that we're missing? Was that the punchline to a joke we missed the first part of? Was he quoting someone else? It is what it is. Use whatever cliche you want, he's blaming Romo for his failure.

It's laughable that people are defending Williams and pretending this is out of character. He did it last year as well. We even had a poster here who met Williams at a Mavs' game last year, and the guy said Williams was bashing Jason Garrett.

At some point the all-is-well crowd, UTx fans, and Roy Williams' apologists will have to admit that Williams and the trade for him is an epic fail. He's either unable or unwilling to do what it takes to be a star WR. The blaming Romo - in this case - is idiotic. No other receiver has had this problem here.

As someone said earlier, this is a rehash of the Roy Williams-OU debate that raged here for months. Regrettably, I see it ending much the same way, with a disappointing Roy Williams leaving to ply his trade elsewhere, long before his contract expires.

If Roy thinks he is playing well and Romo just isn't hitting him, there's no chance he will ever be productive. He is playing like garbage. The fact that he thinks he's been good is disturbing.

That quote sounds like he could be referring to the "connection" between two players, not just one players fault. He seems to be talking about what "two players" are getting done together.(or in this case, not getting done)

Then he turns around and says he is happy that we are winning, and he is going to keep working hard.

I am not a big RW fan or anything, I am just going by what I have seen in his interviews, or what I read.
