Put your self into the Spielmans shoes as a GM. You are looking at your team and see that you have an aging RB that will make 45 mil over the next 3 years.
You know realistically that you arn't competing for much this year or next. Now you have an opportunity to get that contract off the books and have little to no cap hit because of it if you are able to trade him. Ok, so you keep him instead....well now you are going to be forced to cut him next year because of the cap damage he's doing to the roster.
You trade him now and get full value. Wipe your books and allocate that money to expiring rookie deals or other positions to fill out your lackluster roster.
If it were going to happen, it would have happened by now. You can rationalize it and 'put yourself in *blanks* shoes' all you want but if it were going to happen, it would have.
