We need a list of the free agents that are available that played for him in the past.

Take it for what it’s worth Rob Ryan hired Eberflus in Dallas. Said he was the best LB coach in football. He stayed longer than Ryan. He also did enough to at least earn a head coaching opportunity so I am optimistic that he will be a serviceable hire for our team. I think we could have done worse.

Could've been a lot worse. Eberflus has decent defenses, they need to get him so Defensive line help. There's literally no one good if Osa leaves.
Bet no Dallas safeties run to the sidelines barking at fans last play of the game.

Why do these polls lately only have 2 choices? I don't hate it but I also don't love it so....

I voted yes. I’m not super thrilled with him but I was happy we got someone with a decent track record in Indy. And I’m happy with the hire because he wasn’t an “already in the building guy”. And yes I used air quotes because we like to hire in the building guys and hope our “drought” will end.

Only What did Eberflus have to work with in Chicago ?

I cannot recall ANY big league players in the Bears defense ...Here there's Parsons, Diggs and Bland is a damn good foundation , then add LB Marist Liufau.
we'll just have to see if we can re-sign Lewis and

Diggs won’t be available start of 25 . Maybe Butler if recovered can start opposite Bland

I’m good with it. I wanted Rex Ryan or Wink Martindale but both of them have their weaknesses as well. Eberflus will do much better as a DC but at least he has experience leading a room as well.
I'm not sure I was on board with Rex Ryan I mean seriously the dudes been sitting behind a media desk for a while talking trash about a bunch of teams he's a little bit more of a personality than I like I'd rather have somebody that's been active and failed and now has to resurrect meaning he'll be a little bit more encouraged to have a guy like Matt Eberflus who was a really good defensive coordinator who became a head coach and he failed at head coaching but now he gets to come prove that he still belongs in this league and I like guys that are determined like that..

And by the way I'm pretty sure ME was the linebackers coach under Rex Ryan weren't they here at the same time I mean we are getting a guy who's going to run a similar system then, right?? it's not exact but similar,

I'd rather have the guy that hasn't had any gaps that's not been sitting without a job for quite a while...

To me this feels a lot like Mike Zimmer, I mean I know there's slightly different defensive schemes, but I think they're in similar areas of their success's defensive coordinators and lack of success as head coaches, but what they bring to the defense.. i think it's very similar.

That's not a bad thing I think Mike Zimmer didn't get much of a chance here because of all the injuries not much in free agency and bringing in your new defensive schemes with only one offseason and then a bunch of injuries I'll give him a pass for some of the games that just looked bad at the beginning so I think Matt will do just fine here and he's not on a one year deal he's none of these guys are on lame duck deals so they'll have some time to install and tweak what they want to do.

so, I like it ,i'll give it A So I like it I'll give it a B-TBD

there really wasn't that big a list or anyone better on those lists that I remember that was available for defensive coordinator other than what we were talking about before all this..

That was Rob Ryan, and no I can't think of two guys who could be more different in their philosophies. Rob Ryan was a blitz heavy, confuse the offense type. Eberflus is a line up and beat the man in front of you type...rush 4 with a ton of two deep safety looks.

No not at all . Based on 14-32 as HC in Chicago with not a second of challenging the Kings of the North. Division bottom feeders .
Bob Saleh was 20-36 as the head coach of the Jets... with a MUCH better roster than what the Bears have had. He is now one of the highest paid DC in the league.

I don't think the team record as a HC is a good determining factor as a DC.

i mean he was a dc for what, three seasons? colts were fine, they weren't defensive juggernauts. darius leonard and buckner were monsters. he was a guy here who was part of some pretty awful defenses, and then had a solid showing in indy, and a terrible one in chicago. what inspires confidence?
He was the Linebackers coach here.
Sean Lee, Ro McClain, Anthony Hitchens. Bruce Carter played well in 2013 after the switch to Rod's defense. Switching Lee to WOLB.
Even was here for Jaylon Smith playing in 2017

Ware & Spencer in the 3-4 orientation.

Otherwords, he coached the only position that shined defensively here

I hate passive defenses that are undersized against the run. We’ll see if he injects size into the front 4 and has more aggression. The rush 4 doesn’t work against the elite QBs. Look at Spags in KC. Always making the offense uncomfortable.
