Article: Dallas Cowboys should trade for Houston Texans’ Jadeveon Clowney

Texans would never want to "lose" a trade to the Cowboys, they have a little brother complex.

Plus, Jerry never wins trade.

I'd personally trade for Clowney but I would be terrified to see what Jerry gave up to get him.

I don't think so. I think they'd still have to eat that remaining signing bonus. Any resident cap experts available to confirm this?

So a trade works like a release.

The player's remaining prorated signing bonus accelerates and hits the cap immediately.
2016 prorated signing bonus - $3,629,636
2017 prorated signing bonus - $3,629,636

He also received a roster bonus this year of $1,844,818 on the 5th day of training camp.
There is a 2017 rooster bonus of $2,767,227 that hasn't happened yet so it doesn't apply except for the fact that the team that traded for him would inherit it.

His 2016 base salary is $600,000. So he currently counts $6,074,454 (base plus prorated bonus plus roster bonus) against the cap.

Overthcap is saying after June 1 the dead money hit drops down to $6,764,454, which is a difference of $690k from his normal cap hit. His base is $600k so I'm not quite sure where they are getting that additional $90K from.

So, let's assume your numbers are accurate, I still can't see Houston trading him, even at that number, can you?

He would fit in perfect here with all the injuries. He could take advantage of vets day off day. Any day that ends in a y

This is some Jerry Jones logic.

Just because Jaylon Smith is there in the 2nd round doesn't mean you have to pick him.

I'd love Clowney but i'd want to get a deal done that doesn't crush our draft.

I think he has been such a huge disappointment so far that his price tag could possibly be reasonable. If not then so be it.
Leary and a third and a conditional 5th/6th would probably get it done. IF the money wasn't a factor

If it's anything above a fifth round pick, H to the NAW Noooooo!!!!!!!

Clowney is a lazy bum. I predicted in his college career he would be a gross underachiever. He doesn't have the heart, which is why he didn't sign with Alabama. He's scared of hard work and made himself famous for one big hit against a Michigan running back and has coasted on that play ever since.

Unless he gets a DNA transfusion from Sean Lee, he's going to be average at best for the rest of his NFL career.

I am not convinced that Clowney's head is in it, much like McClain's. Not to mention that he is built of tissue paper. No way would I trade a top pick(first four rounds) for him.

Don't we have enough "woulda, coulda, shoulda" players on this team? He's not a factor in Houston for a reason.

Great idea ....... yet another injury prone player with lots of potential.

He would fit in perfectly.

After paying that 1.8m roster bonus it doesn't make much sense to trade him this year with a 5.4m cap hit this year and a 3.6m cap hit next year unless they got back a top pick or cheap young player
