After paying that 1.8m roster bonus it doesn't make much sense to trade him this year with a 5.4m cap hit this year and a 3.6m cap hit next year unless they got back a top pick or cheap young player

What difference does it make in reality? The only thing they are really getting hit with is cap space and we all know how fluid that can be. Yes, they paid that roster bonus but sometimes you have to accept the cost of doing business.

The likelihood is that they aren't going to resign Clowney....he doesn't really fit their defense. So they could trade Clowney for Leary and maybe something like a 5th rounder. Leary starts for them and could be a reasonable resign for them next year.

The Texans would over value Clowney and the Cowboys would lowball.

This trade talk should end right here and now.

Yup...But honestly...I seriously doubt the Jones have the balls to make such a move. Let's not pretend It was Jerry's idea to deal for Charles Haley. That was all Jimmy.
Very easy to bring in players that are headcases when you have a coach that can handle them. Just saying

Absolutely. If Marinelli can turn Selvie into a seven sack guy, stands to reason he could do well with Clowney.

Send them a second

I was only saying that they would want too much because they just paid him 1.8m and are taking the cap hits......not that they wouldn't still do it.......I would love if they took Leary and a 5th

People said the same thing about the Eagles trading Maxwel/Murray. Fact is any trade can happen if all parties can find common ground.

Two good examples, but I'm still not sure that this one could happen.

I found this article... Discuss :)

Things have been pretty rough in Houston for former first overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. He has spent most of his time on the sidelines for the Texans who selected him first overall out of South Carolina in 2014. He was supposed to be a huge factor next to defensive end J.J. Watt, but instead has been quietly rehabbing for the most part.

On the field he hasn’t made much noise either. He has less than 50 tackles and five sacks in his first two seasons. Sure injuries have played a part, but perhaps scheme is to blame as well.

According to Christopher Smith of Saturday Down South, Clowney has always preferred a 4-3 defensive system. The Texans currently run a 3-4 system, which forces the natural defensive end to move outside to linebacker. Smith claims the talented pass rusher even avoided going to Alabama due to the team running such a defense.

In addition, Clowney said he would’ve committed to Alabama “a long time ago” if the team ran a base 4-3 defense instead of a 3-4. (Ironically, the 266-pound Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 draft, now plays outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.)

So maybe Clowney could finally reach his potential if he was placed back in a system that allows him to line up at defensive end. Which brings us to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys are about as pass rush needy as any team has ever been. Last season’s second round pick at defensive end, Randy Gregory, is currently suspended and in rehab. Their sack leader from last season, defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, is also suspended to start the season.

Outside of those two, the team has an inexperienced group of players like Benson Mayowa, Charles Tapper, Ryan Russell and converted defensive tackle David Irving.

Due to this lack of experience, Dallas should call the Texans and ask about the availability of the former first overall pick, who would immediately become the best pass rusher on America’s Team.

I haven't even read it and I already agree. A good friend of mine is a Texans fan and I have told him since they drafted him that the 3-4 defense is a waste of Clowney's talent and physical make-up. He would absolutely destroy in Marinelli's 4-3.

For the right price, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I mean I likely wouldn't throw a second rounder at the Texans for him but I might consider a Leary for Clowney trade.

Escobar and a 2017 3rd. We need Leary. There is absolutely nothing of substance behind our starting 5 without Leary.
