The Bradford trade was ridiculous, but they aren't that similar. Romo is almost a decade older, and has missed the better part of the last two seasons. Think about it...Tony hasn't played sustained football in two seasons. As attached as some may be as fans to Romo, the bottom line is a team really has little clue what they're getting with Romo at this point.

Bradford wasn't exactly the healthiest guy.

And it wasn't really about getting a 1st rounder, it was that we could have gotten *something*. A conditional 3rd that had potential for a 2nd if Romo stayed healthy would have had suitors in training camp after some contenders realized they needed a legitimate QB if they wanted to make a run.

I mean sure he was probably the best caliber QB they could hope for acquiring in any scenario at that point in the season. And even given his good 2015 season, I still don't agree that he was worth a 1st rounder. A 2nd maybe, a 3rd for sure. Just goes to show what desperation forces teams to do.

I get what you're saying but a first round pick was the only way they were going to be able to pry Bradford away from Philly who planned on starting him. It was a desperation move but it did pay off because Minnesota would have been stuck last season and heading into the offseason looking for a QB.

Let's pull a phrase out of Mickey Spag's book......"If Tony is so good, why isn't any team lining up to trade for his services."???

Again, simple. Contract, age, injury concerns.

So we not only don't get any compensation for Romo, we don't get the cap relief until June 1 AND he's still on the books for 2018?

Front Office completely mishandled this IMO.

I am disappointed but I cannot be mad at the Joneses for not playing hardball with their likely all time favorite player.

There is a reason why you hear players across the football universe saying they want to play for them and it is not just the exposure and hype.
A lot of them say that, but how many of them are willing to give a discount or sign a bargain contract to do so? I can't recall any.

This is a foolish move by the Jones. I don't care if they intend to hire Romo after his playing days are done. They could sit on him for months and someone might get desperate, get hurt in mini-camp, etc. They gain nothing by cutting him loose, and might have stood to gain a draft pick.

Apparently, Jerry found out there was no trade interest for Romo while at the combine.

So, he met with Tony on Tuesday and basically said he would be a June 1st designation.

No trade interest = June 1st designation

And a June 1 designation for the cherry on top...........meaning we split his $24 million cap charge over two seasons, not just one.

This was botched so bad its not even funny.......and we all wonder why its been 20+ years since we played in the NFC title game.

Why are we not just eating his entire cap hit this year and get it over with?

We don't need the money for free agents, ever since we got burned on the Brandon Carr deal we just sign scrubs now.

So we get nothing for Romo and we carry his cap hit not just this year but in 2018 as well.

Does anyone know if that's true? I'm no cap specialist but I've read enough to have some sort of idea about post June 1 cut.

The extra cap savings is not available until June 2, so we cant use it right now............that is why this is so stupid, we should just eat all of Romo's cap hit this year and have a clean cap to work with in 2018.

Of course that is what a good team with good management would do and we are neither..............so it is what it is

well it's more alike than you think. Bradford has the same lengthy injury history as Romo, arguably even longer especially in his first 5 years. Also, Bradford has come nowhere even close to having an MVP season while Romo just perfromed at that level in 2014 (pretty recent). When you have the same propensity for injury as a young player vs. an aging vet, youth really doesn't play a factor.

Therefore, there is validity in asking why Bradford commanded a 1st round pick and Romo does not
Except Bradford is younger than Romo. That get some rid of all validation.

the Vikings are just as badly mismanaged as the Cowboys, Bradford was not in any universe, worth a 1st round pick

No but he Vikings were desperate and the Eagirls had leverage. Not only that but Chip Kelly said teams had offered them first rounders in the past for Bradford.
