Beck offered to Cowboys?

Oh, and thanks for the awful memories, Alex. :banghead: :puke:

Someone has to remind people of these things. It is a dirty job, but it must be done.

Henry still has value. Watkins also.

Bobby Carpenter. Now, we are talking a fair trade. One third stringer for another.
In truth Alex, I do expect us to offer him first over Henry this off season.

I'd prefer to keep him over Henry given the fact we may not get Zach Thomas back, but I will be in the minority on that.

Now that one, I'd be on board with. Just not a player with any value like Henry.

My God, anyone with a pulse is a huge upgrade over Brad Johnson -- that's not a selling point for Beck. Just bring in a vet like Fitzpatrick and then draft a kid and start training him.

You can say Henry has an expiring contract, but we could get a good compensatory pick when someone picks him up and plays him. I'd rather have that than Beck.

I wouldn't mind acquiring Beck. I'd bring in Patrick Ramsey as well. I think both would be an upgrade over Bollinger.

As for Henry, even if he stays Jenkins or Scandrick needs to start in his place.

The last line is the key.

If he is not going to start, and I agree, he won't, why pay him that much to come off the bench?

Well, I do like Beck as a developmental QB but I'm not certain if he's a guy who can push Romo, which is what I believe he needs. I think that we need to make a concerted effort to bring in somebody who can make Romo fear for his job. He's to secure in his position and I just think he doesn't feel the need to improve on the little things. I, unlike other's, believe that Beck has some talent and if given a chance to develop, could certainly prove to be a good back up, at the least. However, at this time in our development, I think we need a guy in here who can actually compete now for the starting QB position.

I think Beck might be a decent prospect to look at. I'd actually like Smith from San Francisco more but either, IMO, could use a change of venue and I think either might be reasonable. I would not give away the farm for either. I don't think I would trade Henry to Miami for Beck, straight up. However, Beck and a 5th perhaps. A lot depends on the contracts.

I don't want Beck because he, nor any other rookied draft-pick QB, would have the expereince needed to be a backup to the #1 QB in Dallas.

What we need at #2 QB is a vetran with experience who is not padt his years like Brad Johnson.

And we already have a #3 QB to develop, so I wouldn't wnat Beck in that #3 QB spot either. I mean, right now he's Miami's #3 QB (!!!MIAMI'S!!! people ) and even THEY don't want him. that's all you need to know.

Sorry, Beck...PASS!

Great.

Another unrealistic post about getting a #2 QB. Look. There aren't enough #1 QBs in this league. All the guys that people keep bringing up as #2s are going to be starting somewhere and not taking a backup job.

Good point. I agree.

You'd have to bring in Tom Brady or Peyton Manning for Romo to feel scared for his job. Jerry loves him and he just got a fat contract, he knows he's not in any danger.

I like Smith as well -- a 1st round bust is usually a good guy to look to if he is cool with a career as a backup.

I do think that Smith is going to end up in SD (or somewhere else if Norv is fired).

to give up Henry for Beck for a couple of reasons:

1) Even off the bench, Henry would provide depth for a very important position that, right now, looks deep. However, if Newman goes down again, and only a fool would gurantee that the won't, then all of the sudden that position doesn't look as deep.

2) I'm afraid that we do end up with Beck, Jerrah and the front office would call it a day when it comes to the QB position. I want this team to draft a QB this year. There are a few guys out there that, if developed properly, could not only provide some security long term, but could bring back some valuable draft picks.

BJ was undeniably bad, but do they really wanna go with someone as raw as Beck as the backup? Or maybe they envision him as the #3 guy (in 2009, at least).

The Cowboys do not need to trade for Beck. They can find a similar talent who is younger day 2 of the draft.

Beck is not gonna be in Miami this year.

Another unrealistic reply...

So since we're on to those, then let's bring back Quincy Carter, since he's not among that camp of #2 QBs who will be starting somewhere. At least QC was a starter fro an etended period of time; Beck can't even hold the #3 QB position in Miami, so let's bring him in - YEAH!

I wouldnt mind Beck but we could get more for Henry hes old but he was a starting CB and has experience and can play safety.

you know with all the talk of getting a young QB in here, it really sucks that Matt Moore was claimed when we tryed to sneak him on the practice squad a few years ago. His upside seems much higher along with having a stronger arm.

I don't know about this JT. I mean, I would agree with you that we can probably find a guy with as much talent but, we can't find a guy who can come in and play for you in the 2009 season. We will have to bring in a QB to replace Johnson. We can draft a guy to develop but, that guy is not going to back anybody up and he's definatly not going to force the issue with Romo. Now, you can certainly make the arguement that Beck is not that guy but I don't think that anybody we could pick up in the draft is going to be able to back up for us either.

That's just my opinion thou.
