And yet, if he had done this in Dallas, he wouldn't even be charged with a crime.

I do believe carrying an illegal firearm is... illegal everywhere even if the punishment varies.

He'll have plenty of time to serve soup to the homeless and read to the blind once he gets out of the joint. In the meantime, feel free to pay him a conjugal visit.

the clincher right there

I don't know, call me old-fashioned...
if you're going somewhere that you feel rquires you to carry a gun for your own security...

Burress was a victim of a shooting. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, his shooter must answer for his crime.

Karma.

this aint karma, it's a power tripping NY government.

I mean really, karma shot this idiot in the leg, back off uncle sam.

no I actually do, half the folks in prison shouldn't be there.

It does no one any good and likely makes more criminals in the process.

don't assume my views because you want to get emotional, I hate real criminals, people that hurt us and hurt society.

sorry that I don't think plax fits that mold.

I could be wrong, but it seems as if you're attempting to convert this thread into a political discussion. Political discussions should be held in the Political Zone. If I somehow had the power, I would possibly consider moving this thread to the Political Zone.

OOPS! 5 PM! It's quitting time! I'm outta here! :)

let me ask you this if someone else had accidentally shot your boyfriend in the leg with an illegal firearm would you even be here arguing that he should not be punished for it?

And I don't want my tax dollars spent on Air Force One joyrides. Guess we're both out of luck.

On the contrary. A less famous perp would almost certainly serve the full sentence. Burress, thanks to his fame and high-priced attorneys, has already whittled down the prospective punishment.

the government isn't here to tell me right from wrong

Dumbest thing I've read today. What's your alternative? Anarchy? Do yourself a favor and Google the phrase "We the people."

as if being gay is a bad thing?

if any of my friends were to shoot themselves in the leg they would spend the rest of their lives being ripped by me.

if they went to prison for 3.5 years, I would tell them they got screwed over by a stupid law. Would visit them as much as I could.

I don't own guns because I don't see the good in them, but I don't hate people who think they need them to protect themselves.

wow that people really think all law breakers are the same.

dude shot himself in the leg, I would feel pretty secure if he was on the street.

And I would feel freaking awesome if a judge forced him to tell his story to a bunch of kids, even if only 1 listened, it's worth it to me.

It has nothing to do with him shooting himself in the leg. That just tells me how far off the page you are on this whole thing.

what threat is he to society?

it has everything to do with him being a danger to himself and a danger that likely isn't anymore cause the dummy shot himself in the leg.

I shot myself in the foot with a pellet gun as a kid, I won't own one now as a result.

lessons are learned outside of a prison cell, whether you want to admit it or not.

What if they did 2 months when the mandatory was 3.5 years?

depends on the dude, if it's a scumbag I would punch him in the face

if it's a decent person I would be right there to pick them up from prison.

Would you think they were 'screwed' over by the law?

I think it's safe to say his illegal firearms handling skills leaves a lot to be desired.

...not to mention the fact that you don't need to be a "threat to society" to be thrown in the can.
