I can somewhat understand Hurd; he's shown talent and knows the system.

Proctor?? I don't get this. He must be one hell of a practice player at backup center - knows all the line calls, can snap the shotgun, isn't getting run over like Johnson used to.

You have to protect your interior lineman. Procter is the only other guy on this team besides Gurode who can play center, and he's not awful. He'd get snatched up in a hurry by another lineman-needy team. I don't blame Dallas for not taking the risk.

Austin and Bowen were obvious.

Hurd is the most surprising of the bunch to me. Makes me wonder about the future of that position. Could someone be sent packing this summer, or is this just about Jerry not wanting to look foolish in case the Dolphins grabbed him and plugged him into their three-receiver sets and had him playing productive football?

means is that there's a HUGE probability that the Cowboys are not going to draft a WR.

It insures that they get one more look at Hurd in training camp and then they can make a decision on keeping him or not. Not tendering him with a 2nd would have insured that he would have left in free agency.

They are just tendering all these guys so they can have them through the draft and training camp. Proctor and Hurd will get cut during camp

I'm thinking Procter has some pics of the Jones' family in a rather bad position.Hurd doesn't bother me as much, however it is perplexing to tender the proctologist with a second. On second thought maybe Jerry was seeking a second opinion from a proctologist and Procter came to mind by mistake.

I see hanging onto Proctor and Hurd more about being able to draft the best player available instead of chasing needs on draft day. These tenders are merely guarantees that the team maintains their rights through this offseason, not guarantees they will make the final roster. I think these decisions were made necessary by having soo many previous employees and coaches in Miami. You hate to lose valuable players and get nothing in return. Jerry must have thought Parcells and crew would have some interest in all four guys.

It doesn't matter. The money isn't guarenteed. Come cut time nothing will accellerate into this years cap if any of these dudes are cut. At this time we're covering all bases and if someone is stupid enough to tender a second rounder for the Proctologist et al then win win.

This is no biggee IMO.

I bet we could draft a center that would instantly be better than Proctor from the first day he dons the uniform.

and if we do and he beats Proctor out what did we spend on Cory? Nuffin'.

The problem with this is what?

No, you're right. It makes total sense as long as the money isn't guaranteed.
