This discussion reminds me of the same kind of talk that went on when Alex Smith came out.

No offense to Smith, who has made some nice plays, but if it wasn't for one of the better backs in the league playing with him, he would look worse than he does.

Perhaps, but, that's not an uncommen thing for QBs. Our own QB has not put up near the numbers without a running game to support him. Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman (I love saying that :laugh2: ), was very average without a good running game. Maybe not even average.

I don't know of many QBs in the NFL that don't look average without a good running game. JMO of course.

If one of the teams that passed on Leinart drafts Quinn, they are going to look very stupid IMO.

I don't think the guy is anywhere near as good a passer as Leinart.

Of all the pro QB prospects, Jamarcus Russell is the most promising because he's cool under pressure and makes ALL the throws effortlessly with accuracy, amazing how far he's come in three years. He's big but not sloppy and is willing to get the tough yards for a first down, you've got to love his progession.

Really, who might that be?

Jeff Samardzija

1st all-time in receptions
1st all-time in recieving yards
only ND reciever to have multiple 10+ recieving TD seasons

Statistically, Brady Quinn's numbers at ND are far superior to those of Joe Montana. However, I doubt we could find too many people who would go out and claim that Quinn is the best QB ever to play at ND.

Samardzija may have many of the receiving records from ND but for my money, the best WR ever to play at ND was Tim Brown, by a very wide margin.

This thread is hilarious. Basically what I see is a whole lot of "Quinn is a
fraud, Quinn is garbage, etc etc." simply because the posters don't like Notre Lame. Sure, they are overrated and I (we) hate them, but please. Brady Quinn WILL be the top QB drafted and Troy Smith won't sniff the 1st round. Brady has all the things the pros are looking for. Troy Smith doesn't. He lacks the ideal height and there will probably be some question as to how polished his game is. I havent watched Ohio St much, but before this season whenever Troy's name was brought up in NFL draft conversations it always seemed to be "raw, needs to work on his game, etc." Same things are said for Jamarcus Russell. He looks very raw as a passer, footwork needs work, things like that. Quinn already does all of that, has the physical skills and played in a pro-style offense under Weiss. I'm no expert, but it seems that the guy with the highest ceiling at QB in this draft is Russell. But it seems that Quinn isn't far behind in that regard and is far more ready for the NFL right now than Russell is.

Oh, also....Smardja isn't 1/2 the receiver that Tim Brown was.

Quinn vs. USC the last 2 years.....

538 yards passing, 4 TD's vs. 1 Int ... 95 yards rushing, 1 TD

He put them in position to beat USC last year and the defense lost it. This year vs. USC ... ND put up the exact same amount of yards offensively (404 vs. 404) with Quinn accounting for 348 of those 404 yards and throwing 3 TD's vs. 0 Int's. However, he couldn't keep pace with defensive and special teams units that yeilded 44 points.

He didn't play well vs. Michigan or LSU this year.

It would be interesting to switch roles between Quinn and Smith for instance ... to see how things would differ if each were on the opposite team.

I really like Troy Smith too.

Brady Manning has a potential first round WR in Jeff Samartja (spelling).....he has a solid RB...and he has a great offensive mind in Charlie Weis calling the plays.....I am sorry but he blows in big games...

BTW....Vince beat a far superior USC team last year basically by himself....and everyone in the country said Brady Manning was superior to Vince....

I am sorry but until Brady Manning can win a big game he will just be another in a long like of choke artists by the name of Manning

I'm an admitted Troy Smith fan and have been involved in some of the debates here between who is the better prospect between Smith and Quinn. Obviously, I'm of the belief that Smith will do very well at the next level.

The crux of my belief has been the fact that the guy is a leader, he wins games, and in the biggest games, he plays his best.

Without question, the same cannot be said of Quinn. This year, in ND's three biggest games and against their most difficult opponents (USC, Michigan and LSU) he has failed to impress.

So my question is this: what will be the effect on his draft status? There was talk of top ten, top five if I'm not mistaken before the college football season started.
Add in if Smith has a big game Monday night - does Smith get drafted before Quinn? In other words, measurables (height, basically) over production? Especially after the success of two proven winners on the college level from last year's draft who dropped for various reasons (Leinert and Young) and their success this year?

Beast does not get all this love for Quinn. I have watched him play about 3-4 times this year, and if he is playing anybody other than a service academy, he stinks the joint up.

He throws high and behind his receivers on a regular basis, kinda disturbing at the college level. Quinn has bust written all over him, and to think some posters were advocating that we either throw games or move up to get this guy.......freaking amazing!!!

Even when no one is criticizing romo in a BRADY QUINN thread, you feel the need to leap to the defense. The Order of the Knights of Romo never cease to amaze me.

Edit: I can't believe that people are STILL going on about how much Brady Quinn sucks, and say things like the guy is only good against service academies and the like EVEN WHEN posters offer up his stats in his "choke" games and they are still pretty good. The fact is, that Notre Lame is overrated and are not worthy of whatever position they currently occupy on the polls. They are NOT a better team than LSU or USC. Last I checked, football is a team sport.

Of course all the Notre Lame haters on here say things like "I've seen 4 of his games and he SUCKS against big time competition". Hey, 4 games makes you a draft expert! Boy, that Mel Kiper better watch out for his job! I'll take the words of "draft experts" and "talent scouts" over Joe Blow Sixpack on a Message Board any old day.

Even when Quinn is "choking" against USC he's putting up pretty good numbers. Obviously, you don't know if he'll be bust or not, but he's certainly worthy of a top 5 pick.

Vince did do a great deal of that by himself but Young also had a great deal more talent on that Texas team then does Quinn. Especially defensively. To me, there is no comparison. Young played on an undefeated team last year. Quinn played on a good team but not a great team this year. To me, it's as simple as that.

I think Norv Turner should be thanked for the job he did with Smith this year. The guy isn't HC material, but he is a heck of a coordinator.

God forbid that people should form their own opinions while watching the games that don't mindlessly agree with what the experts say.

Russell may be the best pro prospect at QB in the college level right now. He's better arm strength then Quinn, He's a better leader then Quinn in big games, and he's 6-6 260 lbs and can run like a deer. Quinn does have decent speed at times but he doesn't make good decisions and he doesn't have a great arm.

Smith has a chance to make it in the NFL but him being 5-11 will hurt.

UCLA would kind of disagree about Quinn since he took it down the field in the last minute and beat them. You do remember UCLA, right? USC certainly does.
