Thanks for clearing it up.
they are all backups making more than the 4.3m we would owe McCown

I swear Romo goes put there and changes the entire play. Slide adjustments protection hot routes. Literally everything. Why bother in all honesty.............this coaching staff proved last year that they cannot win a game without Romo changing the plays at the line.
If Romo goes down, we lose................doesn't really matter who the backup is so we should just keep our picks.
Yes but if you sort them by different criteria E.g., money paid out after mini camp but before training camp, then McCown clearly costs the most.
Nevermind that any comparison putting McCown on top ignores that the 2nd year of a deal is nearly always a bigger cap hit than the first
So its
Chase Daniel
Nick Foles
Chad Henne
Mark Sanchez
Jared Goff
Carson Wentz
that is still incorrect, but this bores me
I don't think you can compare top picks like Goff and Wentz to the situation of picking up McCown's salary. Also Foles was ridiculously overpaid. Picking up his current contract would make McCown basically one of the top five paid backup QBs and that is clearly overpaying.
IMO the question isn't whether you give up a draft pick for him, its whether anyone will. I think the most likely scenario is that he is cut because the Browns won't pay that much either, so its not about his current salary. Its about outbidding other teams when he is cut.

I didn't come up with the stupid criteria to parse every single word, that was stash....I merely said paying McCown 4.3m was nothing and well worth it..... we are paying Leary 2.5m to backup OG only, we are paying DMC 2m to be our 4th RB, we are paying Gachkar 1.6m for some special teams and Heath 2m for 15 tackles
Funny, I was thinking of starting a thread about the position battles. I think Gachkar and DMC could easily end up roster casualties exactly because of their salaries.
Leary is a starter on most teams in the league, I'd rather pay him and have the depth.
Disagree on McCown, I just don't see him worth that salary. I could see him in Dallas, but at half that salary after the Browns cut him. There is no way I would give up the cap room and a draft pick on top of it.
Especially for a 36 year old player.Even more than the draft pick, I'm not interested in paying the $4.3 million salary.

Some of you guys are missing the point of bringing in a vet QB. It's not to save the season if Romo was to have a season ending injury. We all know the season would most likely be over then (see last year). The reason would be to win a game or two if Tony had to miss 2-4 games. In other words, go 2-2 instead of 0-4.
The Cowboys waited too long to look for a backup. Of course teams are going to want more. They know we're desperate.
