Browns Believed To Be Asking “No Less Than” A 4th-Rd Pick For QB Josh McCown

they are all backups making more than the 4.3m we would owe McCown

Yes but if you sort them by different criteria E.g., money paid out after mini camp but before training camp, then McCown clearly costs the most.

Nevermind that any comparison putting McCown on top ignores that the 2nd year of a deal is nearly always a bigger cap hit than the first

Why bother in all honesty.............this coaching staff proved last year that they cannot win a game without Romo changing the plays at the line.

If Romo goes down, we lose................doesn't really matter who the backup is so we should just keep our picks.
I swear Romo goes put there and changes the entire play. Slide adjustments protection hot routes. Literally everything.

that is still incorrect, but this bores me

So its

Chase Daniel
Nick Foles
Chad Henne
Mark Sanchez
Jared Goff
Carson Wentz

I don't think you can compare top picks like Goff and Wentz to the situation of picking up McCown's salary. Also Foles was ridiculously overpaid. Picking up his current contract would make McCown basically one of the top five paid backup QBs and that is clearly overpaying.

IMO the question isn't whether you give up a draft pick for him, its whether anyone will. I think the most likely scenario is that he is cut because the Browns won't pay that much either, so its not about his current salary. Its about outbidding other teams when he is cut.

Some of you guys are missing the point of bringing in a vet QB. It's not to save the season if Romo was to have a season ending injury. We all know the season would most likely be over then (see last year). The reason would be to win a game or two if Tony had to miss 2-4 games. In other words, go 2-2 instead of 0-4.

Is McCown one of the top five backups? Excluding, of course, those you've excluded from the argument?

I didn't come up with the stupid criteria to parse every single word, that was stash....I merely said paying McCown 4.3m was nothing and well worth it..... we are paying Leary 2.5m to backup OG only, we are paying DMC 2m to be our 4th RB, we are paying Gachkar 1.6m for some special teams and Heath 2m for 15 tackles

Funny, I was thinking of starting a thread about the position battles. I think Gachkar and DMC could easily end up roster casualties exactly because of their salaries.

Leary is a starter on most teams in the league, I'd rather pay him and have the depth.

Disagree on McCown, I just don't see him worth that salary. I could see him in Dallas, but at half that salary after the Browns cut him. There is no way I would give up the cap room and a draft pick on top of it.

I think Foles got $1.75M if that's any indication of a number we didn't want to beat.

You can't, but some would still like to.

And I used facts to show your statement to have been completely false. And then you ran somewhere else in an attempt to somehow justify it by pointing to other bad contracts and rookie quarterbacks as some sort of justification.

we are paying Leary 2.5m to backup OG only, we are paying DMC 2m to be our 4th RB, we are paying Gachkar 1.6m for some special teams and Heath 2m for 15 tackles

And this is again, somehow justification for not only grossly overpaying for McCown's (hope he's our starter guys!) contract, and giving up a quality draft pick for the right to grossly overpay?

Again, no thanks!

The Cowboys waited too long to look for a backup. Of course teams are going to want more. They know we're desperate.

I agree, but of course we cant predict if its 0, 2 or 12 games he misses. Im in favor of adding a vet but wouldn't pay a 4th for a player of his age. Also I dont see a rush anymore because if our young guys can perform in the next couple games maybe we sit idle and continue to give them every opportunity to develop.

And now a few people want a team unwilling to pay $3 million per year for 29-year old Colt McCoy, or $1.775 a year for 32-year old Matt Moore, or even $1.75 million for Nick Foles to not only pay over $4 million to 37-year old Josh McCown, but to give up a draft pick to do it.

Yeesh!
