Yes, those were simple to see. The defense was harder to predict. No way we could have anticipated losing Parsons, Lawrence, Kneeland and Williams. It would have been hard to see the Bland injury coming (although we should have retained Gilmore with Diggs coming off an ACL tear). Fans knew we were still deficient at DT, though.

You have to wonder what McCarthy said to the Joneses about our FA moves, or lack of them. It's understandable if his hands were tied, but if he just sat there and was OK with these moves, he's no better at personnel than the front office. Of course, it may have been more like, "We've got to pay our QB and top receiver, so we'll give you a running back, but we're only going to spend the minimum on him." McCarthy: "OK. I'll be able to make it work."
DLaw: Has been susceptible to injury his entire career
Kneeland: Rookie. Can't count on players until their 2nd/3rd year
Williams: True, but he is still just a backup rotational type at this point.
Parsons: Yup, you got me on this one. Even though I will tell you that guys his size playing 4-3 DE often get hurt, it was still unpredictable.

However, we were unable to stop the run w/ all these guys(except Kneeland) playing, so the problem was already there w/ or w/o these guys.

I think Jerry is simply making an excuse for being so nonproductive last offseason. That's long been a typical act for him.

Jerry is the same thing he has always been ....... a "Carny" and great promoter.

He won in the early 90's because he surrounded himself with old school football guys and rubber stamped Jimmy Johnson's decisions, with no salary cap.

Now he surrounds himself with lap dogs and boot kissers and has an unqualified person (Stephen Jones has a Chemical Engineering degree) running his cap.

Those are the only things that has changed.
We all know what the problems with this once great franchise is , A great football mind at the GM position is sorely needed .

DLaw: This is only the fourth season out of 11 that he's missed any games, and before this year, he'd played every game in 6 of the previous 7. Of course, age and wear and tear eventually begin showing for all players.

Kneeland: A rookie second-round pick is expected to contribute.

Williams: I agree, but they were hoping he'd take on a bigger role this year. Right now, though, all that is is hope.

Parsons: I agree on playing end wearing him down, but you expect maybe a couple of games missed this year at this point, or him being slowed later in the year. Not for him to miss as many as he has.

Lawrence is probably still our best run defender. Kneeland might not be that far behind. They can't help it if we do a real sucky job of getting DTs, hampered even more by our unwillingness to just go fill the position in FA when top players are available (which doesn't happen very often, so you have to take advantage).

lol at the continual unending excuse making for dementia that has not presented itself yet. It is like some will not allow themselves to believe the man is a narcissist, who is simply football stupid. As far as the article, I liked this quote:

“When I look at the whys that we’re here, I really have a tough time getting past just sheer youth, sheer inexperience in the offensive line and I have a tough time getting past that turnover [ratio]."

Dude can get a partial pass on turnovers. That is a player execution and coaching problem primarily.

Having a hard time getting past the sheer youth?

Having a hard time getting past the offensive line's sheer inexperience?

A general manager is the principal driver of overall roster age. They draft. They sign free agents. They waive players. They add or subtract from positional experience by doing what their job title requires.

Jerry Jones is having a hard time for which he was the main architect of creating.

I know there is an interesting and unexpected story coming when my wife starts a conversation with, "... you know, in Russia..."

After listening to me discuss the Cowboy's state of affairs, she commented,

"You know, in Russia, when the oligarch starts losing his grip, the next in command just removes him and business returns to normal.

The problem with the Cowboys is no one has the ball$ to remove Jones and, even if they did remove him, the next in command is dumber than Jerry."

This pearl of wisdom is from someone that doesn't watch or understand football, couldn't pick Jerry Jones out of a police lineup, but tolerates my fandom.

:lmao:

DLaw misses time or plays poorly every year due to some injury.

He played in all 17 games the previous two seasons, and then for four seasons before 2021, he played in all 16 games. How do you define missing time?

He is one of those guys who plays through injury, though, but I don't see a lot of "poorly" in his game. He gets pressure but definitely isn't a big sack producer, which maybe is what you mean by playing poorly. Seems more like his two years out of 11 with 10-plus sacks was the aberration.
