I see the old Rue machine is cranking on overdrive.

It's extremely difficult for a rookie cornerback to have success in his first year, let alone in the first preseason of his first year. He has to get adjusted to the speed and skill of NFL receivers and learn how to negotiate the NFL's rules which put defensive backs at an EXTREME disadvantage.

I don't really see why this is such a big issue or topic. It would be a BIGGER issue/topic if Jones was shutting down receivers like Deion Sanders.

Sorry, but Jenkins never saw a second contract with the Cowboys he was a bust for us. Tampa sucks they just had the first overall pick so him starting for them doesn't mean he's any good. The Cowboys would have kept him if he was any good and not wasted a top 10 pick on Claiborne.

Mike was decent but was injured and was not retained because he fell out of favor with the front office due to his attitude.

They probably should have kept Mike but apparently he burned some bridges with team officials.

The Mo pick was a waste but this has nothing to do with Jones.

Our system for scouting and drafting players is much different today than it was for any 1st round corners other than Mo and Jones. Mo has been injured too often to judge him fairly and Jones hasn't taken a meaningful snap yet.

But if you want to compare the story to OL....remember we would never take OL in the 1st under Jerry....until we did 3 times in 4 years?

Past performance is no indicator of future results. Especially in the NFL draft. Come on man!

Mo has had enough healthy games to be judged fairly. He has flaws that have been exposed at the NFL level this happens to a lot of good college players. He's been given every opportunity over the past 3 seasons and will be given another golden opportunity this season with Scandrick out. Mo never had the speed to be a top corner his flaws were covered up by playing for a top rated college team. College corners are lucky if they face a couple of NFL caliber WR's during their college career. As for past performance being an indicator of future results it usually is after 3 years of average to below average play by a player. As for the drafting process some teams have a better history drafting certain positions than other teams. Since 92 the Cowboys have drafted 3 "solid" corners Kevin Smith, TNew and Scandrick.

As for the OL the Cowboys weren't having much success drafting on the OL due to not investing premium picks. They were mostly going after aging free agents to build the OL. The Cowboys finally got serious about building the OL by using #1 picks and nailed all 3 of them but not at corner due to corner being a more difficult position to play. Next to QB corner is the hardest position to play in the NFL due to the rules and the freakish athletes that play WR. WR's have a big advantage with the rules virtually handcuffing corners. The rules are all bent to favor receivers and the offense.

Thing is you don't even really have a logical point, unless its to say the front office might get discouraged and stop picking CBs in the 1st round. But that is a weak point at best, because the front office has shown that it will pick the best player available on the board regardless of position of need. So if they think at CB is the best on the board and thats where they are picking 1st round, then they will take them.

Garrett isn't like reactionary fans, he actually executes a strategy.

What in the world does a player drafted in 92 have ANYTHING to do with players drafted today?

Just stop.

Jenkins was decent but decent wasn't good enough and the Cowboys wanted better and moved on from him. If a first round pick isn't offered a second contract they didn't pan out. The Mo pick had something to do with Jenkins not panning out and the Jones pick had something to do with Mo not panning out. The Cowboys have had better luck with free agent corners they simply haven't been good at drafting them.

I'm all about using logic and if you can't grasp what I'm pointing out that's on you. The Cowboys picked for need with Jones due to Mo not panning out. Had Mo developed into the player everyone thought he would the Cowboys would have never selected a corner in the first round this past April. You usually end up in trouble picking for need and Jerry has picked for need many times claiming that player was the best player on their board.

Picking for need has worked out on the OL but not at corner because it's a much more difficult position to play at the NFL level. If a player can block in college there's a good chance they'll be able to block at the NFL level. Because of the differences in rules between college and the NFL and the outstanding WR's corners see every week in the NFL it's a huge jump from college corner to NFL corner. One week they're facing Dez Bryant and the next week they're facing Calvin Johnson.

What's wrong with pointing out the teams history in drafting corners? Not saying because only 3 corners drafted since 92 have developed into solid corners that Jones will be amongst the list of failures. During the Jerry Jones era the Cowboys haven't had much luck drafting corners it's an observation that you're reading way too much into.

Because unless all the same decision makers are present and we're playing in the exact same scheme for the duration of that period....then all you've done is data mine rather than unearth an enduring truth.

It's too much of a crap shoot drafting corners and that's been proven with the Cowboys who's best corner was a 5th round pick.

The one common denominator (decision maker) since 89 has been Jerry he has the final say on every draft pick.

As I mentioned. You should just stop. Unless you think Jerry is particularly good at drafting everything but corners. Because. Well just because.

Jenkins was a solid corner and he was good enough but he burned some bridges and it cost him a second contract.

It was not performance based and thus attempting to underwrite support for your argument is foolishness in this context.

I think you should stop because every time you keep coming back you end up cornered with a question you can't answer. Am I wrong in saying the Cowboys haven't had much luck drafting corners under Jerry? The Cowboys have drafted a long list of them since 89 from Stan Smagala to Kenny Wheaten to Courtney Brown and only 3 have developed into solid corners. There hasn't been many positions the Cowboys have drafted more than at corner and have failed on most of them. I mentioned they took 3 corners in 2000 including Goodrich and all 3 went bust.

Jenkins was never "solid" he was inconsistent his departure had mostly to do with performance which is why he's currently on his 3rd team. The Raiders gave up on him after one year. He started giving up plays with the Cowboys and along with him making business decisions they had seen enough.

You are stating historical facts. I'm stating that none of that is predictive.

Incorrect, Jenkins was a solid corner for Dallas and his departure was due primarily to the fact that he burned bridges with the front office, his last season in Dallas he played well even through injury.

Mike is still starting in the NFL, trying to use Jenkins to underwrite a stupid argument against Jones in preseason play is absolute poppycock.

Just move on, you are wasting your time and effort on an absurd proposition.
