Sell you on him as a good NFL QB? No

Sell you on him over most teams backups? Yes

List of other teams backups I would take Weeden over

Derek Anderson (Panthers)
Chase Daniel (Chiefs)
Shaun Hill (Vikings)
Matt Hasselbeck (Colts)
Kellen Clemens (Chargers)
Austin Davis (Rams)
Scott Tolzien (Packers)
Bruce Gradkowski (Steelers)
TJ Yates (Falcons)
AJ McCaron (Bengals)
Luke McCown (Saints)
Ryan Nassib (Giants)
Dan Orlovsky (Lions)
Jimmy Clausen (Bears)
Johnny Manziel (Browns)
Blaine Gabbert (49ers)

I would take Weeden without hesitation over all of those guys.. There are also guys who are toss ups that I didn't even include (Tarvaris Jackson, Christian Ponder, ETC.)

Some of those guys are on teams who are consistently good (Colts, Packers, Bengals, Steelers) So it goes to show you that your backup QB pretty much means nothing.

Weeden can get you through a game or two but in general if any teams backup has to play 4+ full games the team is in very bad shape

Blaine Gabbert ????

He showed a pulse against the Commanders...and had he finished the game...we would have won. Losing at home...on mnf....to colt McCoy...was worse

Is Romo's backup any worse than Peyton's, Brady's, Brees', Wilson's, Roethlisberger's, Luck's, Rivers', or Flacco's?

Brady's backup was specifically drafted to replace him in a few years.

Coincidentally, he and Romo went to the same college.

If he shows a pulse in the Cardinals game, we win that game and most likely finish with a 13-3 record and a #1 seed in the playoffs.

Now the question is, has he shown anything since then that makes you believe he could win a game if Romo is out? The answer is no, he has shown us nothing.

He has been very poor in practice and if he's bad tonight, we need to move quickly to find a replacement.

We learned the hard way last year how one game and can change your entire playoff outlook. Like I said, if he shows a pulse, we beat the Cardinals and get an easier run to the Super Bowl. Why are we taking a chance with him again this year with so much at stake?

He is worth about a nickel and a pickle !!!

They say Manziel is making a strong push over there. Only time will tell.

Unlike some others who also didn't want us to burn our 1st rounder on him, I do think he'll stick in the NFL for a good while. He could even be starting by October this year depending on how bad Cleveland is early on.

Every QB was drafted specifically to replace their respective starter's in a few years.

About 4 percent of them actually end up doing that with any effectiveness.

The QB failure rate is astronomical.

Weeden is proof they think Romo is going to play all season....I wish we had some young high draft pick playing backup and showing a lot of promise. Why don't we have that? What are we waiting for?

Tell me the team that has that.

Cleveland has been DESPERATE for a QB for years, dumped him in two years. There is no selling that.

Weeden is a below average NFL backup. He was truly awful in that AZ game. Just, a liability.

That said, he's a guy with a big arm who can handle check downs apparently and who can get the ball vertical downfield in a hurry. Against another team he might not have been nearly as bad that day. Not many teams are going to be able to contain our running game and cover Dez man-man at the same time. Had we been able to get either of those things going, Weeden might not have been so useless that day.

New England for one..

Says who?

These guys rarely pan out. RG3, Cousins, Ponder, Gabbert, Mallett, Locker, Freeman, McCown, Clausen, Barkley, Leinart, Young, Geno, Manuel, Quinn....

Garrapolo is just another hope and a prayer. The failure rate is staggering.

I'm sure there's a few left, like last year, that would still take him over Romo. Many of the same group that begged for Manziel.
ufc, gameover, the Natural, DoubleWing, CowboyStar88, maybe Section 444?....come on down!

you've got good memory doggy, although I never ever championed Brandon Weeden

oh yea, @ufcrules1 @Gameover @DOUBLE WING @CowboyStar88 @Section444 he didnt want to tag you guys, come on down.

Weeden is awful!

How he draws a paycheck playing on an NFL team...much less my favorite...is something I do not get.

That's true but any QB you draft falls into that category.....

lol
Wasn't sure if you championed Weeden.
You were the "johnny manziel will lead us out of the Romo dark ages" guy, I think. And we'd be set for 7-8 years. You weren't alone, for sure
Just knew that many who did also wanted Johnny M (though the number was higher that wanted JM).

haha My guess is some of those that you went looking for actually did like Weeden > Romo. Maybe one or two will even own up to it!

all in good fun at this point

He's not good, i don't think he can be sold.

I think his ceiling is average backup. We're also making this offense QB friendly so as long as he can hand the ball off or throw it up to Dez, we stand a chance. Beasley emerging helps as well.

He's just a bad decision maker, and he hasn't learned the nuances of the position. He's been a locked on/checkdown QB. If he can just learn to do the small things he'll be "okay".

Definitely not any kind of solution at the position, but depending on who we play, we can win with him. Especially if our defense steps up.

I wouldn't mind trading for that Austin Davis kid. He would be a great backup, and possibly future starter. He lit us up last year!
