Canty signs 6 year, $42 million dollar deal with Giants *merge*

He'll likely see time all over the line, like Tuck and Kiwi. He'll primarily play DT, but he could see time at DE as well. The flexibility this affords the Giants is mind boggling. Kiwi could even find his way at linebacker from time to time.
the depth they have at Dline will give Garrett many a sleepless night... like you said, along w/ the flexibility of guys who can/do play different positions...it's all just nuts. I think this is even more reason for Jerry to look to beefing up the Oline's depth quality.

I want to see Leonard Davis make Canty eat his own face

He's already minus an eye, I think.

And Luis Castillo is a better player than Canty. And Aaron Smith is a very good DE for the Steelers too. By and large, most 3-4 ends aren't going to register sacks even close to the clip of a standard 4-3 tackle.

You said that 3-4 DE are not sack masters. There are many and there are also just as many that are as there are 3 technique DT in the 4-3. You're statement is wrong on just about every level but go ahead and try and spin it with something agains since your statement about 4-3 DT was unfounded as well.

His agent made it very clear he was after the money. Green Bay was very interested but they weren't offering the type of money Washington started with before they got Haynesworth or what the Giants ended up hitting.

Tennessee may have a boat-load more and they haven't come off a penny. Just because they have it doesn't mean they are actively trying to spend it.

that may be true, but if you want the money, you go 1st to the team who has more to spend

IMO, he wanted to stay in the division so he could try to throw not getting the contract he wanted, back in Dallas' face

shoot, even if it's not true, I hope our Oline feel the same way and uses it as motivation to stomp him out

I thought Canty was from North Carolina.

Not according to the NY Daily News.

They called him a Bronx native, but maybe he spent some of his childhood in N.C.

We find out starting in July. I seriously hope you are right.

I'm still hoping we get Igor O.

But if that's the going rate for a 34 DE, I don't think we will.

Guys, Canty now makes more than Osi and Tuck.................. Something is wrong with this picture LoL. This is Chris Canty, not Reggie White.

In any case, the Giants are serious about beefing up their defense.

Canty, Boley, and Bernard.

Well, the Bronx and NC are very similar anyway. :)

He went to prep school in north carolina.

Latin high school in Charlotte. He was an all state tight end and defensive end.

I dont know if he lived there, or just moved there for prep school or not.

I can count those who have had five sack plus seasons in the last decade on one hand. I named two of them in my response.

That's not "many". Let's see your "spin" on that.

Yeah and Umenyiora wanted his contract redone last year, now he's gotta be chomping at the bit.

We definitely need to improve our DL this off-season.

With Canty gone, and Tank obviously not returning, we have slots for 2 DL.

I hope we pick up 1 via FA, but I don't think that there is much talent left that fits our scheme other than Igor O.

Chris Canty?? wow..Is he going to play DT for them on certain downs?

That much for not even a starter?

Tuck/Osi/Kiawnuka

With Coefield,Bernard,Canty,Robbins at DT

They have to be the deepest DL in the league right now..Looks like they are creating that 07 season again.

On the bright side..they are giving Boley,Canty and Bernard all this money with no WR replacement. That's what is confusing

The other issue is that Denver, KC and Green Bay have all be shut out thus far.

The Giants taking one of the true 3-4 players off the board (Seattle took Cole too) hurts all of them. Competition is going to be very fierce.

Whether people like it or not, we will probably have to address this via the draft. I think Olshansky has to be grinning seeing the kind of money Hayneworth and Canty received and has to be pleased he has three or four teams he can pit against each other.
