That's a really dumb statement.

Green Bay got torched in that Arizona game too.

So, by your logic, you wouldnt take Woodson or Collins.

Fail.

Hamlin is due 5.59 million in 2010. If Rolle could come to Dallas, Hamlin will be cut. We would still pick up a safety in the draft for the future, but improving our FS position immediately without having to use a high draft pick there would greatly increase our chances of improving our OL.

I'm rarely in favor of signing other teams castoff's or getting involved in FA and rarely does a player become avaliable that I get excited about but there are 2 this season.

The first in unlogical so we wont discuss it. Rolle makes sense in too many ways which means if I let myself get excited about it I'm probably just going to be let down.

I'll have to defer to our coaching staff on this one. If Wade wants him, I'm sure Jerry will get him.

I'd take him over Hamlin, no question. But if he's as good as most suggest in this thread, I don't think we'd be able to afford him.

Ultimately, I don't see us signing any big "name" free agents this off season.

After watching the Cards agains GB and the Saints I don't think I want anyone who was even associated with that defense.
This.

Rolle has been average in his stint at safety since being moved from cornerback. The fact there might not be a full court press by the Cardinals should tell you a little something and make your Spagnola alarm go off. They would much rather let him go than tender him for a year. This means they don't believe he's much better than Rashad Johnson, who they drafted a year ago.

Plus, he could go to Miami (his home) or the Giants for far more money than we could afford due to our final eight status.

I am all for Rolle, he's versatile and a playmaker...just wondering why the Cardinals would let him go. Not buying the price tag thing either.

I rather take a draft pick, he as already stated he is not taking a pay cut. So I would look towards the draft for another FS.

There are several ball-hawking free safeties we may have an opportunity to draft, either in the first or by moving up in the second if we feel the need to.

I would much rather go that direction than hope another high price tag free agent can get the job done. Plus, I think fans are underestimating Michael Hamlin. I believe the team has greater designs on him than has been let on.

Money is the big issue here because no matter what we would upgrade bigtime with him over Hamlin.

So do we really save 5 mill if we cut Hamlin? Is that all in cap space?

I read recently where SJ stated Michael Hamlin was a guy they really liked. Aren't you an ACC guy? How good was he in college? What do you think are his weaknesses? Or rather, what do you think prevented him from seeing the field last year. I really don't know much about this guy, other than some suggestions that he and Mickens might be draft steals -- and that didn't turn out to well for Mickens.

He is an exception to the rule because he is being released and so is classified differently than UFAs whose contracts have expired.

Hamlin, will probably be an averege tackler for a strong safety, not much of a big hitter, but he does have above averege range for a strong safety and very good ball skills (10 ints and 13 pass deflections in his junior and senior seasons combined). Play him at FS and he'll look a lot like Ken Hamlin, but because he's a better tackler, he's not a liability at SS.

I'd have no problems with this, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think we address safety in the draft. Especially if Mike Hamlin still has the team's attention, and Ken Hamlin is gone. I think it says a lot about our current guys if we go FA.

The thing about Hamlin, that i've heard Brian Broadus talk about, is that they have to back Hamlin up a lot deeper than they would like too because he gets froze a lot and thats a big reason he doesn't make a lot of plays.

I've actually seen him get froze quite a bit too when we play on a TV station that shows endzone angles.

Hes not a terrible safety but for the money he gets paid we could find someone to do as well as he does for a lot cheaper.

Heck I would take Alan Ball over him simply because of contracts.

Im just waiting for Theo to come up in here and go Hulkamania on everyone.

I heard they view Michael Hamlin as a strong safety. I kinda like that too because he seems like he would be a heck of a cover guy for a SS.

That'd be my guess too. I'd love to see more of him though. I was impressed by what little I saw of him at Clemson (maybe 2-3 games), but I can't recall much from preseason. He seemed to me to be more of a football player with some athleticism than an athlete trying to play football....I like that.

Hopefully he can play.

I'm thinking along the same lines, I wouldn't be terribly disappointed if they didn't make the move, and I wouldn't be jumping up and down if they did either.
