You're making a huge leap equating compensation with job responsibilities. Ask anyone who has ever owned a business. The goal is to pay everyone the lowest salary possible. I paid one manager almost 20% less than the previous manager yet she had more responsibilities and in effect more power. She was willing to work for that and was happy as was I because every dollar I paid her ultimately came out of my pocket.

It's slightly different in the NFL because salaries often become public knowledge but to use the alleged "lowballing" of Phillips as proof of anything is insane.

In other news, between Merriman getting busted for roids and Zimmer being the possible head coach, Vegas projects Merriman to have 1.5 sacks next season.

Geez, what is it with a couple of you guys? I never, ever said that Wade is a puppet. Never. I said that there is some evidence Wade has less authority than Bill did.
That is the insinuation though. Whether you've said it or not, that is what is being portrayed and I asked why. You answered so I assume you believe Wade is a puppet for Jerry.

Parcells was the person who retained Zimmer. Jerry recommended that he be retained but Jerry also made it perfectly clear that Bill did not have to keep him. If you recall, Bill got rid of almost every single coach except Zimmer.
Interesting recollection. Completely incorrect, but interesting.

Coaches from Campo's 2002 staff.
Bucky Buchanan, Assistant Equipment Manager
Mike McCord, Equipment Manager
Joe Avezzano, Special Teams
Joe Juraszek, Strength and Conditioning
Steve Hoffman, Kicking/Quality Control
Tony Ollison, Assistant Strength and Conditioning
Bennie Wylie, Assistant Strength and Conditioning
Wes Chandler, Wide Receivers
Frank Verducci, Offensive Line
Galen Hall, Running Backs
Bill Bates, Defensive Nickel Package/Special Teams
Jim Maurer, Head Athletic Trainer
Britt Brown, Associate Athletic Trainer
Greg Gaither, Assistant Athletic Trainer
Greg Seamon, Tight Ends/Quality Control
Andre Patterson, Defensive Tackles
Jim Jeffcoat, Defensive Ends
Wade Wilson, Quarterbacks
Clancy Pendergast, Secondary
Gary Gibbs, Linebackers
Bruce Coslet, Offensive Coordinator
Mike Zimmer, Defensive Coordinator

Coaches from Parcells' 2003 staff.
Mike McCord, Equipment Manager
Bucky Buchanan, Assistant Equipment Manager
Bruce DeHaven, Special Teams
Joe Juraszek, Strength and Conditioning
Steve Hoffman, Kicking/Quality Control
Tony Ollison, Assistant Strength and Conditioning
Lance Walker, Assistant Strength and Conditioning
David Lee, Offensive Assistant
Mike MacIntyre, Assistant Secondary
Britt Brown, Associate Athletic Trainer
Greg Gaither, Assistant Athletic Trainer
Kacy Rodgers, Defensive Tackles
John McNulty, Wide Receivers
Jim Jeffcoat, Defensive Ends
Jim Maurer, Head Athletic Trainer
George Warhop, Offensive Line
Tony Sparano, Tight Ends
Gary Gibbs, Linebackers
Sean Payton, Assistant Head Coach/Quarterbacks
Maurice Carthon, Offensive Coordinator
Mike Zimmer, Defensive Coordinator

Zimmer is the only name you see from the two staffs that were 2002 and 2003? Seriously? Got those right from DC.com, so argue with them about their list.

He said that Zimmer impressed him and that he was going to try it and see how it worked out.
A 4 year tryout? Interesting as well. Never heard of this.

That is hugely different than having the owner go out and hire your OC for you before you get the job. I'd say that alone is a bit of evidence that parcell had more authority.
Not in my book it isn't.

He had the authority to retain or not to retain members of the staff when he took the job. He fired almost all, except for Zimmer. Wade has fired who? Interviewed which members of the current staff and decided himself that he wanted this one or that one to stay?
Vincent Brown comes to mind immediately. What is Sparano's role? What is Garrett's? Who is the DC? Who is the ST Coach?

The Dallas media was dropping names like Campo and Avezzano and the fans ate it up.

Does a boss give the same authority to someone he lowballs at first negotiations that he does to someone who was the 2nd highest paid person in his position?
I love how money talks to so many. Of course Parcells was paid more. Show me where Lovie Smith had less authority to be a Head Coach than Joe Gibbs because he was the lowest paid compared to the highest paid. I need to see that evidence.

I never said I had any proof of anything. You asked for some evidence and I provided some, whether you choose to accept it or not is immaterial.
Proof doesn't equal evidence? Okay. Learn something new every day.

I guess. :p:

Now. where is your "evidence" that Wade has just as much authority as Parcells had?
I actually haven't claimed he does. I am curious why so many claim he doesn't when there is no evidence to support it. None, zero, zip, nada.

is there something about being on this board for a while that affects people's reading abilities? I have said over and over that I had no proof of anything. Just some evidence. That is all I was asked to provide, and I provided it. I never set out to prove a darn thing. What is insane is reading someone's post, then try to tell him that he wrote something that is not in the post.

I am surprised to hear that Atlanta would give permission for a coach that they just acquired to leave.

Formality, they can't stop him from interviewing for a HC job.

Chargers get permission to interview Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer for HC per ESPN radio this morning. That would be interesting, to say the least!

sorry if repost...
That'll take the wind out of that defense.

I hope the Chargers do hire Zimmer. Then all the Zimmer lovers around here will see first hand how he can destroy a team. I don't think he will get hired but it sure would be interesting to watch.

And if they do hire him and he does well, all we will hear from the haters is, how he had so much talent in place he couldn't fail...I actually hope it happens, because it will be fun...it's going to be fun either way, because we'll see if Atlanta's defense get better.

And it was an alleged lowballing...wasn't it PFT that began that rumor and then Werder picked up on it as BSPN was looking snags in the hiring?

After all it took what, 4 whole hours, for Wade to arrive until Jerry introduced him as coach...some proof.

I have no clue. I never heard what Wade is being paid or offered. That is stuff that i don't care about.

Player salaries, yeah, I care because of the cap. Jerry can pay his coaches whatever he and they accept.

Zimmer is getting blamed in Dallas and he was only the DC not the HC. Using that same logic, it will be his DC's fault and not his as head coach in San Diego if they get worse. :D

Since it's a head-coaching interview, ATL can't deny permission. They can only deny non-HC vacancies for coordinators (or so I'm told)

Then they would be in the wrong. AJ has proven he is in charge there. The coach will have no more input than Wade will here.
Actually, it appears as if the Chargers themselves are sick of Smith's routine. Rumor has it that Smith will be released after the draft. As it stands, it's still rumor, but typically, where there's smoke, there's fire. Chances are, the coach will indeed have more input in Chargers land.

On a side note, if the Chargers do indeed part ways with Smith, then they fired the wrong guy. Schotty should hev been kept and Smith shown the door. Marty coached this team to the best record in the franchises history. The melt-down inthe Pats game was on the players making bone-head mistakes that were uncharacteristic of their play all year. That's on the players, not on Marty.

Just goes to show how dysfunctional the Chargers truly are.

I quoted your post exactly. If you have a problem with someone taking issue with something stupid you've written, don't write stupid things rather than accuse others of misinterpreting your exact words.

I also doubt you like to get in a semantics debate over evidence versus proof and their colloquial usages.

In the end, no one this side of Phillips and Jones knows the type of power that Phillips will wield.

Yeah, with you, I can tell it is all about you finding an opinion you don't like, and then posting lies about what was actually posted.

BTW - my opinion is just as valid as the next guys, and as valid as yours. I just won't lie about what you post, whereas you do do it freely.

I have asked you repeatedly to repost where I said what you claim. You can't do it, yet you continue to spew your lies.
