Garrett was good at player development and keeping the players on task. His teams would get down and play hard to the final whistle.

He was not good at innovating scheme or making adjustments ingame.

MM is good at all of that.

I like McCarthy, but his reputation benefits greatly from standing on the shoulders of Quinn. I need to see more from the offense before I kiss McCarthy’s feet. I’m glad he’s calling plays now. That shows ownership.

At the end of the day, we may find that McCarthy is just the lucky man who coaches for a team that has a generational defense and DC, an incredible scouting and pro personnel department, and a perfect combo of vets and young players at the right stage of their career.

The hard question (which we might have to ask after this season) is: Would you lose Quinn to keep McCarthy as head coach, or dismiss McCarthy and make Quinn your HC? Ask yourself that knowing that Micah has said multiple times he would follow Quinn wherever he goes.

How do you know that mcarthy is not the one that told the jones to hire, pay, and structure the team to do what dan quinn wants? Do you really think Mcarthy doesn't control or have oversight on everything the defense does?

I don't know for sure, but i would bet the farm that dan quinn answers to both the jones and to mike, and that both dan and mike are having one of their favorites runs of their careers, and both have input and love the defense

I have never been a fan of this coach. But after week 1, he's growing on me. A lot of people are down on this coach, make fun of this coach, and outright disrespect him. But he had this team ready week 1 despite no preseason action for the starters. That's not easy to do. He had to achieve game speed through practice. Because if a player gets injured in practice, it's not seen as bad as if they're injured in a preseason game. Even though it is essentially the same thing.

BigMac had these guys ready to roll week 1. Can't say the same for the Giants head coach. Lets stop with the talk about him being the worst coach in the NFC East. Because it's not even close.
He's better than anyone since the big tuna

Very astute observations.
This season will tell the tale of what coach Mac brings to the table offensively.
Moore is gone, so we will see if Mac still has the IT factor.

I like Big Mike. He's funny as hell, and very relatable to average people unlike the Ivy League no talent success story Jason Garrett. Also has a solid network of quality coaches willing to work for him, and he seems to be a genuinely great guy. Nothing fake about him.

However - one large thing that I constantly have to remind myself of is that it was his call to hire Mike Nolan, who promptly installed one of the most complicated and poor performing defenses in franchise history. Dan Quinn has covered up a lot of sins with McCarthy. You effectively have two Head Coaches on this team at the moment.

Mike was overrated in Green Bay and underrated here. Truth lies in the middle. Overall I think he’s a pretty damn good coach and I like him. He’s not great, has his flaws but he’s better than we’ve had in a long long time.

People will discredit him no matter what he does- in Green Bay it was Rodgers, here it’s all Quinn, whatever. He just wins for the most part.

A lot of people were turned off to him because of Aaron Rodgers, that's it. I recognize that Aaron never one ANYTHING (championship wise) without MM.

You’re living in the moment. If the Cowboys lose on Sunday to the Jets you won’t be feeling as good about McCarthy. I’m not going to be giving him or anyone else any kudos after week one. We’ll see how the season plays out and if we do anything in the playoffs if we make them. You can almost bet we won’t make it through the season without seeing a fire McCarthy thread. This is year four with him and we need to make a strong run in the playoffs. If we don’t McCarthy may not be back next season. Any step back from what we’ve done the past two seasons and he likely won’t return.
KJJ---we cant lose against Jets...we just cant tha4t is why i put OCTA-PLAT.....we just cant...you dont go into Met life and put leagues worst beatdown and then

allow a team in your house to win next week....they are ready for Jets running game...we close that down it's good night Irene as Troy Aikman use to say....should

kick it up to 16-PLAT whatever that4 is....or say if we lose this i will Never put another PLAT up?.......i should...any push back and i just might

So it only took you a week to like him?

He gets way too much hate nationally and from our own fanbase
Agreed. Not only has he been a massive improvement over Garrett, but he's also, imo, the best coach we have had since Parcells. I was 10 when we hired Parcells, so I naturally wasn't on this board at the time. I have to wonder the reception he got when he got here. I think Mike has earned our respect. I usually give coaches a minimum of 3 years of my support before I call for their sacking if I feel they're not up to the job (Garrett). I am glad I have had that mentality with Mike. He's been a high quality coach for us. The players respect him, and I like him.

I've never understood why fans would not respect any coach who has won a Super Bowl. The coaches on that list are relatively few (35 in 56 years of Super Bowls). Explaining away the accomplishment seems to happen more frequently than it should.
