TRADED Colts trade five-time Pro Bowl CB Stephon Gilmore to the Cowboys for a 5th round pick

I think people are acting like 5th round picks are discardable meaningless pennies that can be spent however.

This kind of move (trading a pick that in this draft class could net u are starting running back, or even a starting tight end due to the depth, for 7,8,10 years even....for a guy that is 32 (when does he turn 33?) , is a move only a team should make if they feel they are one decent CB away from a championship....and are just giving that final push.

Are WE that team? Personally, I think we need to be getting MORE draft picks, and trying to rebuild with young talent. Not trading away an asset that represents a cheap player rigjt at the beginning of his career, for a player right at the very end of his.

Actually he turns 33 right at the beginning of the season.

So for all intents and purposes, we traded for a 33 year old CB.

I.e. will be 34 at beginning of next season.

Extremely short sighted...

Prediction: he never starts 10 games as a cowboy.

Probably could have drafted Texas RB Roschon Johnson or Tajee Spears with that pick.

Could someone get this guy a tissue

Reading that wrong. $60k per game active bonus that will total $1.02 million if he's active for every game.
Yep, someone pointed out that SportTrac had it right. OvertheCap lists as "per game" and not as the maximum cap # it could be. Much more manageable.

I like the trade a lot, was just concerned when I saw the potential cap ramification.

I would take a starting cornerback over the #176 every time.

Let’s see who the Colts take there.
He should be an upgrade over Anthony Brown but he obviously isn’t what he was to cost only a fifth round pick.
Indy is probably tanking this year. They would be the same with or without.

Could they have shopped him more? Maybe. He might have expressed a preference for Dallas and they agreed.

If Damone Clark can regain his college form with an actual on field offseason the Cowboys could have a comically good set of 5th round pick investments on the field this year with Gilmore, Bland and Clark.

They aren't worthless but they are far from a sure thing and I wouldn't ever count on a late 5th round pick to be anything more than a role player for a few years. If you get something that turns out, you've done great. Also the team can still likely draft whatever would have and likely with their other 5th round picks.

Edit: Haven't seen which one they gave up.

For the price and his veteran leadership, I dont care that he is 32.
Maybe he can teach Joseph a thing or two.
Good signing IMHO.

Well, if we were a contender, I'd agree with you... but I think we need all the youth and shots at good young players we can get.

That said, I respect ur well thought out opinion

All these people whining about no action, no activity, sitting on their hands…
Resigned Wilson, LVE, restructured Gallup, traded for Gilmore, and they’re not done yet…and still…gripe gripe gripe!

Great trade !
This is more inclined with what we (my Dallas Cowboys) should be doing.
My whole gripe with the FO, is they get too tied up in - "we like to bottom feed in FA"
Pay our guys.
This is a low risk/ good reward trade, comp. Pick for smart, smart player. Who even if he's not as fast as he was, now uses his smarts, and can help teach a fairly young corner group. Offset with a lower round CB in the draft. And concentrate on other positions for our top round picks (3 rounds).
This is exactly how we should be using free agency. Tough to say - but, well done on this one !
