They aren't worthless but they are far from a sure thing and I wouldn't ever count on a late 5th round pick to be anything more than a role player for a few years. If you get something that turns out, you've done great. Also the team can still likely draft whatever would have and likely with their other 5th round picks.

Edit: Haven't seen which one they gave up.

They gave up the last of their 5th rounders. 176th overall. They still have picks 161 and 169.

Elite corner.

Spotrac says it’s a 9.9 million cap hit for us.

He’s UFA after 2023.

He was traded for so little because Indy is dumping salary.
While there is some truth to this, if he was in his 20s, he'd be commanding a top pick. His salary isn't terrible enough for them to only get a fifth. His age is.

Great signing. Most 5th rd picks don’t even make the roster, Dallas got a solid starter on a 1 yr deal. If he plays well, extend him during the year, if not move on and it only cost a 5th & 9 mil and change.

Used to be elite. Can he be again? He's been kicked around quite a bit the last couple years so can't imagine 3 other teams would move on from an elite CB.

He just needs to be better than what the team had last year, and I think he will be quite a bit better. You aren't getting his New England days.

33 (when the games start)
Indeed, yet Joseph is but a spry chick a dee at 22, and couldnt hold a candle to Gilmores knowledge of the game.
I take the 33 year old and hope that his presence with some of the young up and coming DBs, and has a positive influence in their growth.

Hard to say what he would have been like had he been with a good team. Colts sucked so bad,...teams never had to throw a ton against them...

Easy to be a CB when the other team gets a quick lead, then runs the ball the rest of the game

He'll be 33 in September and that is old in NFL years. Still an excellent move for a solid CB. How long that lasts is another story.
Corners are an interesting bunch healthwise as several seem to be able to play well into their mid-30s-plus while others fall off the cliff early. Based on last year, it seems that Gilmore could fall into that first category.
