Again-they were a misfired Jason Campbell pass in the endzone to sweeping us last year. They also blew a number of close games last year as well.

They're hardly a great team, much less a very good one. But they're not the Niners either. They'll continue to give teams fits.

But, they aren't going to the Super Bowl like us, so there's really no reason to try to upgrade the team or keep it at a competitive level.

And?

Inferior team beat good teams all the time, specially when you are talking about division rivals.

With or without JT, they were going to give Dallas fits. So essentially nothing has changed.

JT is not going to put them over the top.

I agree that good teams find ways to win, while inferior teams do the opposite. However...

If you remember last year after game 1, ALOT of Zoners here expressed CONCERNED over how we played(the secondary got shredded, the OL was inconsistent-outside of Gurode's bad snaps that is, Roy was getting schooled by yet another TE, Jacques Reeves got exposed, etc, etc).

Yes-I agree a win is a win, but nonetheless for a game where everyone thought we would annihilate the Skins, we nonetheless came out with a ton of concerns.

And yes-the Skins ended up blowing alot of opportunities in that game. Don't expect that to happen again this year if they're given a chance.

Remember last year when Newman got that nagging foot injury in TC, alot of CZ's here were screaming for Jerry to trade for Asante Samuel.

I would bet if Jerry went as far as trading a couple of #1's for him, most Zoners would have done cartwheels.

If Jones gave up a first for ham sandwhich, somebody would defend the move.

Most however, would realize a bad trade when they see one.

I like JT the play. The Skins are better with him than they are without him.

A 2nd though for 34 year old is not good, unless you are convinced you are one player away from a championship.

FWIW-I'm not trying to defend the Skins.

The whole pt is that yes, they are not very good. But they will nonetheless be competitive, especially in inter-divisional games, so I wouldn't take them lightly either.

gotta admit good trade for the deadskins. sure he's a little up there in age but taylor is still a beast at DE and adds pass rushing to a team that desperately needed it. Parcells blows.

It's a great deal for the Commanders!

Of course we wouldn't give up a #2 for Jason Taylor...because we aren't in need of a player like him, but if we were a 4-3 team with no pass-rushing DE at all, we'd give up a #2 in a heartbeat, even if we only got his services for 1 season. Jason Taylor is now probably the best DE the Skins have had in years, and he gives their defense a legitimate pass rusher/impact player to go with decent LB's and a strong secondary.

We've used recent #2 picks on guys like Fasano and Bennett, and not long ago on Rogers who never played a game for us. If they'd given up a first rounder, I'd be laughing, but a #2 doesn't exactly destroy your future, and they had no shot at all this season without their only decent DE in Daniels.

Well stated. While I don't believe it is "great" as you stated, it was probably the only move they could have made.

It doesnt put them over the top or anything but it does affect us in our short term future and our door is open right now to win.

Its a bad move for Washington in the long term because he doesnt put them over the top or anything but its a headache for us to deal with it.

I love that the Commanders are sacrificing youth and their future for a 34 year old DE.

Premise 1: If a team is not in a win now but a rebuilding mode, that team should not give away first day draft picks for 34 year old players no matter how good they will be for the next 2 seasons.

Premise 2: The Commanders are in rebuilding mode having completely changed the coaching staff and philosophies and handing the team back to their unprove QB to grow with rookie pass catchers.

Ok, if both of those premises are true, then this is a bad move. But so many of you are complimenting it. So I'm left to wonder which of those 2 premises do you people disagree with?

(I would also add in support of the competitive argument, Premise 3: QCampbell is a below average to average starting QB who is trying to learn the worst possible offense for his skill set/weaknesses)

I barely like the idea of picking up 34 year old players as free agents, much less paying a nice premium for them.

Pats do it as well-they don't overpay them, no. But they nonetheless add alot of intangibles like leadership, depth, and mentoring the younger players.

I don't have a problem with it myself.

True, but there goes Plan B if Ware or Ellis go down in the next few weeks. I'm not happy that he landed in the East, but places like NY, Philly, or GB would have been worse destinations from our vantage point. The Skins are no threat to us per se, but Taylor is more than capable of making a play or two in a game that could cost us the division or HFA. Then again, they almost defeated us twice in 2007 without him, so maybe I'm overstating his (likely) impact.

The beauty of it all, is the proof will be in the pudding.

If Jason Taylor helps them make it to a Super Bowl in the next couple of years or at least makes them a Super Bowl caliber contender the next couple of years then I will concede I was wrong.

If this turns out to be what I think it is, giving up a premium pick for a guy who is in all likelihood almost out of gas and the next time the Skins are serious threat for the Super Bowl, Jason is at home watching them on TV, then I was right.

someone already mentioned it, but the Bruce Smith signing is a great comparison

although Brucey was much more on the downside, but the roster as a whole sucks like back in '00
