Aside from Dak and, maybe, CoVid, these contract maneuvers free up cap space to resign Aldon Smith (assuming they want him back) and other veterans that are on a one year deal.
That’s part of it. Also with 2021 Cap expected to be much lower than 2020 the Cowboys would be over the Cap as is.Gotta be for Dak.
Crawford is on the last year of his deal???Actually, he's not under contract after this year.
I agree that he has value to the DL and if the powers that be need to restructure then they should do so. If not then that is fine too as long as it is not keeping us from signing our best players. So you agree with me............ he's not worth the $9MM cap hit and the Cowboys should, at the very least, lower his cap hit.
great post.Yes and no. Restructuring now allows part of the restructure "penalty" to apply this year. So, including 2020, Demarcus Lawrence is now under contract till 2024(voidable year). Since they converted 15 mil into a signing bonus, the spreadable cap hit from that 15 mil is prorated from 2020 to 2024. Or 5 years. So, an additional 3mil cap hit over 5 years.
They do it next year, under same terms, and it's a 3.75mil cap hit over the remaining 4 years. Yes, only 750k difference, but it adds up when you also restructure 2-4 more players. Instead of 750k, you save close to 3-4mil a year of additional hits by spreading the prorated new signing bonus over longer terms.
jmo
The guys they've restructured I'm hoping they still see a long term value in. Cause with Frederick they restructured twice and he retired early biting them a bit in the butt. Same with Romo.
I'm sure they can work out his contract to be virtually nothing in 2021 with an extension. That’s part of it. Also with 2021 Cap expected to be much lower than 2020 the Cowboys would be over the Cap as is.
Yes, that's what I meant. Thanks for the clarification bro.He can't sign a contract by year end. Per tag rules he can only sign a new deal after the season ends.
They are creating space to handle the 2021 cap year, which yes, would include whatever they decide to do with Dak.
He has value so dont release him. Restructure
but it didn't bust. they already had him locked in with the tag.
Which they repeatedly failed to do. Therein lies the problem.
Crawford is on the last year of his deal???
Well those guys will be here forbat least a few more years, Crawford is a UFA next year nothing to extendSo Smith, Martin and Lawrence.
No Crawford though lol
It's kind of peculiar since they are restructuring deals now. Makes you wonder if they just want his contract to roll off after this year and they can just be done with him and not be obligated to him in 2021.
Who couldn't we sign because of this?Which they repeatedly failed to do. Therein lies the problem.

Maybe they dont want to bother l, I agree though chop his money in half at least but heyYou can sign him to a one year extension and then manipulate the cap that way.

Honestly - lowballed - after what season? What was the offer? Dak was not great in 2017 and terrible at the beginning of 2018. 2019 was his first full good year since 2016. He was definitely a work in progress and not worth a long term 100 million deal. It's specific to signing Prescott's long term. Stephen low-balled him at the start, and meanwhile, Geoff, Wentz, Mahomes, and now Watson have all signed deals which have done nothing but raise the quarterback market and Prescott's asking price. That should be obvious.
And thanks for the compliments regarding my posts, right back at ya.
