Show me someone who doesn’t have a boss that’s better off financially.
That is not the point. I would hold out until I get my 80 million. That is his right. I think they will come to an agreement by the deadline by the way.

I said opinions regarding rb's are changing. but as you correctly stated, even those drafted at the top of their class don't always work out. bell produced, but wanted too much money. fournette has a problem. not worth the pick. gurley, foolishly played with injury and is now paying the price. zeke and saquon are tops.

Im sure I am going to be loving Zeke this season as the Oline will be back to a top unit and he will be tearing it up. But this team needs another good RB. They are all over the place in FA and the draft.

Now this is narrow minded. You can’t go out and just sign those positions you mentioned a get elite players
Your putting words in my mouth. I never said replace Tank with elite players, I said you could use that money to get players that are better at 3 different positions then what we have now starting (you could literally upgrade 3 starting positions and with a top 30/40 pick possible upgrade a 4th position or at worst that pick adds depth to a weak area of the team such as TE or DE).

22-25 million easily upgrades the 3 weakest area's of this team. You don't have to sign elite players to upgrade these positions, if you needed an elite player to upgrade the position then it wouldn't be the weakest position of the team.......

Who are the 3 players we could sign for that amount?

tagging him again was always the plan. Either to work something longterm out , or trade him. Im starting to think he may get traded. Its 50/50 either way.

Say they trade DLaw for a 1st

On the one hand you have:
Christian Wilkins drafted at 20
EThomas signed for 3/30m
Dante Fowler signed for 2/18m

vs
DLaw for 23m.............5/115m

Literally any top 10 free agent safety would be an upgrade over Heath.

Any mid tier DT would be an upgrade as well. If they skip Earl (upgrade the position but go cheaper like Adrian Amos from Chicago) then they would be looking at a higher end free agent such as Richardson or Anderson

Lol so instead of upsetting him, pay him what he's asking for? I have no clue what he's asking for and that's kind of my point. Without knowing what the offer was or what he wants, it's hard to say they are being cheap or his asking price is too much.

They willfully handed Romo a contract because he's a QB . Fair or not it's just the way it is. Plus he was far more important than Dlaw.

Dez was tagged and later they worked out a contract . That was a dumb contract and is why they should be more careful about giving out big contracts.

Miles and barber contracts were dumb and like Dez, I'm sure they think about those contracts before they start giving out top $ to guys like Dlaw.
Naw don't just give in and give him what he wants. At this point you know what you want to do with him. The fact that he doesn't have a deal tells me Stephen is being cheap here. Its usually always the case. Jerry has no problems paying anyone. So if there are concerns than why entertain this? Why show your hand? Trade him. He's losing value by handling it like this and the Cowboys have no edge rushers so he already has leverage in that regard. I just personally don't like the way they are handling him or this situation. He played on the franchise tag last year. This should've been sorted out by now.

All of these contracts are dumb. If you want to retain your players you have to give them dumb contracts. Let's don't try and reinvent the wheel. You either overpay for your own players or overpay for free agents. You don't get "bargains" or "fair market" deals in sports.

Dallas will get it done, this is part of the negotiation. He will be signed before the deadline.

Khalil Mack - 6 years, $141 million, $90 million guaranteed
Von Miller - 6 years, $114 million, $70 million guaranteed

So Lawrence is expecting something like 6 years, $120 million, $80 million guaranteed.

Word is, the Cowboys aren't offering anything close to that.

Stephen is known for being cheap and not wanting to pay guys. Jerry just use to do it anyway.
Known how? Lol so when we sign a guy to a big contract, that at times have been dumb, it's jj stepping in and doing it. But when we don't sign a guy to a big contract it's Stephen being cheap. Gotcha .

Kind of like bad draft picks are JJs draft picks and good ones are mcclays.

Just me, but until I see what the offer was and what Dlaw is asking for, I'll wait to make my judgement and put blame in one side.

Of course it’s his right. It’s also the team’s right to move on, especially if the contract of one player keeps them from acquiring other pieces to properly complete their team.

When’s the deadline again?

Most don’t want to pay what it costs to keep “the best edge defender in football” last season.

He’s earned it.
I wish he had the surgery already, but he’s earned it.

If we let him walk people will be livid.

For safeties I would take literally any proven free agent over Heath (Tre Boston, Earl Thomas, Collins, Amos, Joyner, Clinton-Dix, Mathieu). Even older vets like Mike Mitchell would wipe for the floor with Heath and give you a nice 2 or 3 window to draft someone younger.

DT I would like Richardson or Henry Anderson if they go cheaper on safety (both would be huge upgrades but will command decent salaries). If they go all in on safety then I would eyeball Wilkerson, Malcom Brown and Danny Shelton (all 3 would be significant upgrades).

Christian Covington is for sure the biggest upside due to his age and consistency, I would 100% offer him a deal and make him a starter (he's the type of guy will mcclay likes, upside and immediate value).

You could have enough to sign two of the DT's listed and still have enough to get a run defender upgrade like Hankins or Margus Hunt (both won't command much)

Who do you like on the list ?
