I've never understood the "Crawford" is a backup 1-tech DT talk.

I mean the guy was a 4-3 DE in college and is 6'4" 285lbs and ran a 4.82 forty at the combine... How does this translate to a 1-technique DT?

If he plays on the inside he's 3-technique guy.

So who's our starting 1-tech?

BTW, did anyone notice the ESPN site where Todd Archer said Spencer would not resign before the draft…exactly 88 minutes before he published the article saying Spencer had resigned?

This was at Noon EST -

@11fitzgerald Any chance of getting Anthony Spencer back on a short term deal?
@toddarcher: Sure, there’s a chance. I don’t think it will happen before the draft.

Followed by this an hour and 28 minutes later:

Anthony Spencer remains with Dallas

So that's 6 new DL that didn't play for us last year(Spencer, Crawford, Bass because injury and Melton, Mincey, McClain FAs). Add 2 or 3 more in the draft and UDFA and that's a lot of youth for the same cost as Spencer alone last year. Hopefully some of them stick and the injured guys can fully recover. It has definitely changed the urgency in the draft to a BPA situation.

I was under the same thinking but am seeing Ford moving up to that range more recently. He seemed to jump from late1/early2 to that range in some of the mocks being forecasted. I would love Barr, but with him and Donald likely gone, I would go Ford or even Pryor with that pick. If the team settles on Martin I wouldn't complain bc am a big believer in over investing in the OL. Don't like Ealy due to his lacking quick twitch athleticism (slow off the snap).

If he is moving up, then maybe 16 is not too rich for him.

Donald is my first choice with Barr second, but if both are gone then I might be willing to go Ford at 16. Kony Ealy is not high on my list, like you said he just seems to lack quickness of the snap.

I would not mind Martin, the kid from Notre Dame, either. He could play OG starting on day 1 and move to RT next season when Free is probably released due to salary.

Raped is a strong word and really, when was the last time anyone really cared what the media thinks or says about the Cowboys in general. They all hate because it sells. That isn't exactly breaking news. Does anyone really give a flip if some media perosn thinks the Cowboys got the wrong side of a trade when it's clear personel wise we got the best deal? And the whole new chart you supposedly don't care about? Your posting history the last year is proof that simply isn't true.

Just last week on the Draft Show on DC.com when Broaddus and Ed Cahill were both talking about how bad a trade that was and Cahill said that at a minimum they should have swapped 2nd rounders. Considering they do their show from inside Valley Ranch, I find it odd they would be "hating on the Cowboys because it sells". They are not selling a dam thing, its a freaking webcast from inside Valley Ranch.

And this was not the first time they said that either, so its funny that Jerry Jones would allow his employees to float negative information about the team from inside Valley Ranch when he signs their paychecks. If the team got fair value, why are they allowing team employees to publicly say on multiple occasions they didn't?

Care to explain?

Taking Ford at 16 would be a bad reach. More like 32nd is in line with his value.

To go reaching for a DE in round 1 is not a good thing.

Let the draft come to the Cowboys and don't force the issue.

Employees talking, NFLN talking, ESPN talking, Skip Bayless talking, all I hear is blah blah blah. People talk at my work every day doesn't change the fact I don't care what they say or talking mouthpieces say regardless of who signs their paychecks. The fact is the Cowboys made what they felt was the best deal they could and could live with it and it really doesn't matter what peoples opinions are. They parlayed that deal into 2 players I feel have a great future as Cowboys and will make the team better.

Cool, so would you have Crawford at 3 rotating with Melton or keep him on the end?

They've lined Crawford up inside and out. He has a nice bullrush and if he can develop a good move inside that will help set up an outside rush. He'll never be, IMO, a monster at DE but he could be a pretty good SDE. In the meantime he can rotate at SDE, the 3 and even the 1 in this system.

No way on ford at 16, I would not take him even later in rd 1
The guy is an undersized player who had one good year out of 4

MUCH RATHER take Jernigan (DL) or Martin and solidify the OL though I still think that Donald will be there at 16

I think you nailed it.

Crawford will probably spend some time as the #3 and at the strong-side end position, maybe rotating with Spencer.

But this of course is subject to change pending what happens during the draft.

I mean we know the Cowboys will be drafting some defensive linemen... how many and for what positions? We'll find out. But I don't think it would shock anyone for them to come out of the draft with another # 3 DT, a #1 DT and a weakside DE.

I agree with you. I'm getting the vibe that Donald will be there at 16. But to take a 2nd round talent (a high 2nd round talent) at #16 is just allowing many teams the chance to widen the talent gap between the Cowboys and themselves.

Michael, why do you get the vibe that Donald will be there at 16? I feel totally opposite. I am hoping you are correct.

I think the Giants are looking at the offensive line and I think the Bears are looking at bigger defensive lineman like Truitt.
