Peppers is a bit older but would be a nice addition. He can still play. For about 5 mill a year he's a nice bridge for a rebuilding line

At this point, I am guessing a ton of money isn't coming his way. However, he is one consistent pass rusher and has been a rock in the lineup. I had heard that money wasn't an issue...but he was looking for a place to win now. That could be the deal breaker there.

Peppers I see more as the mercenary going where the dollar is best.

I see it the opposite. I think Peppers is more likely to take the short term mid-level deal.

The fact that the Cowboys now have reported interest makes me think I'm right.

If we don't add a guy like Peppers, and we do draft a DE high, that would mean our new edge rusher is going to get pointers from George Selvie.

Just throwing that out there.

The only time it's okay to go out and get overpriced overaged veterans is if you think you can contend. Otherwise, they are progress stoppers. But here's the issue, Jerry knows the only way he can sell tickets is if he gives the fans at least something to be hopeful about and the easiest way to do that is by putting players that everyone knows in a Cowboys uniform.

Peppers may be an upgrade over anything we have now, but he is not a long-term solution and now of all times is the time to be looking at the long term.

At this point...if we sign a guy Allen or Peppers, I am convinced there is no plan. Just stick with the cheap free agents and the draft.

and maybe that was the plan. we likely knew hatcher would go cause of $$$ issues and ware would also be gone cause of $$$ issues. so if we can't afford our own "top" FA's, how can we afford someone elses? it makes zero sense to think we let someone like ware go cause of money then turn around and demand we get someone "just like him" when if we could do that, we'd have kept him. we'll bring in as many vets as we can and likely draft heavy on the D, with the plan being to play it out as it goes, knowing we're not in contention for high $$$ names.

Next will here that we are interested in Jared Allen. Sure a DL of Crawford, Melton, Allen and Peppers, like that would ever happen.

Absolutely agree. Peppers won't be signed unless it's a short term reasonable deal where he will be competing with potentially high draft picks for PT. And I think he'd be ok with that where he is in his career. And I think he can really help be that bridge, plus I think he's wanted to play in Dallas for a long time too.

A starting DL of Peppers, Hayden,Donald/Jernigan, Selvie isn't any worse than what we fielded last season whatsoever, and our depth will be improved w/McClain and Mincey already on board.

This team makes great moves, but usually 4-5 years late.

Actually even though Melton and Peppers are on the downhill side of their careers, I think they would be a good mentoring tool for Crawford and the DL players that we draft, if they come reasonably priced that is.

I've been upset at letting Ware and Hatcher go without really giving them an offer and flat out told them to go test out the market. They both did and got top dollar to leave Dallas. I frankly don't understand why the Cowboys FO don't entice our FAs in other ways rather than luring them with big money. Some players would rather stick with a team that they like their entire career even though it meant taking a pay cut. Ware was willing to take a paycut to stay in Dallas. I don't know about Hatcher, but he said it seems that Dallas didn't want him so he went out and tested the market as well.

If we sign Peppers to the same amount of money we could have signed Ware with I'll be even more upset. Peppers is older than Ware and his on his last leg in the NFL. Frankly I would have kept Ware for lesser pay and put him on rotation. Sign a starter passrushing DE in the draft and call it a day. But thats not going to happen because our FO doesn't have a clue.

if they could land allen, that would be interesting. with the $$$ he's going to want it would have to be a backloaded contract i would think and at 31, kinda not a smart thing to do. peppers i could see coming in on a 1 or 2 year deal for reasonable $ and he could help mentor any new rookies we draft. i would say allen at 31 may realize he won't get $10 mil a year, but ware did. i can see us talking to him, but i don't envision it happening.

um, entice them with something other than money, how? no ware was not willing to take less than what he got in denver and dallas was only able to offer around $6mil a year, which i believe they did and ware said no thank you.

At this point, isn't a swap of Ware/Hatcher for Peppers/Melton pretty much even on the field, and much cheaper on the cap?
