I don't get it. He's been a consistent player keeping his ypc about the same all the time. It seems like some want him gone just to get their boy in the mix.

I agree... Murray is perfect for this team... run the clock out and score... everybody fumbles (Emmitt, Dorsett included)... and yeah, I wish he had more speed, but still,
the dude is solid...... plus, I think too many people are glossing over the fact that he worked with Witten last offseason... it tells me he's smart enough to push and take care
of his body... and he's learning from a 12 year vet... I can easily see Murray gaining 1300-1400 yds and adding 50-60 catches a year for 2-3 more years... by then, Romo and
Witten will be done anyway and we'll have to start over at skill players outside of Dez... I've said from the start they should offer him a 4yr/24mil contract.

I think a lot of guys just aren't putting importance of the running game up there since we clearly want to be a running team. If we weren't than ok.
We can be pass happy and find a new QB two years sooner than we need to and start the rebuild process all over again.

Nothing more than the charts of what's happened to other backs following similar carries in preceding seasons that have been posted in the other threads on this topic already.

I think that evidence is sufficient, personally. I don't need to prove that it will definitely happen. It's enough that it's likely to happen.

Especially when, if we get a replacement who gets even half of Murray's YAC, we'll still have a productive rushing game based on nothing more than our expected yards before contact with this talented OL.

That's only when you look at the 'magical' 1800 yd season. But look at the seasons before the "magical" season and you will find multiple 1400, 1500 and 1600 yd seasons. RBs can take multiple seasons of 300-400 touches before breaking down. Murray doesn't have the mileage that other backs had.

It's definitely true that I don't worry too much about the running game.

That's cool most don't now a days. But it did play a major role in our success last season. I hate to leave that up to the unknown.

We finally broke through the 8-8 wall and went all the way to 13-5 and it was because of the running game, just like the good ol days. And everyone wants to dump the star RB who led us there. I can't imagine people wanting to dump Emmitt after his first 4 years because all RBs break down.

Amen bro. We know his teammates don't and we know Garrett don't.

In 1994 at age 25 Emmitt had 450 touches for 1950yds and 25 TDs including the playoffs....Should we re-sign him or let him go????

In 1995 he had 520 touches for 2500 yds and 31 TDs.....Super Bowl

1996 420 touches 1680 yds 17 TDs..what a let down

Last year at age 26 Murray had 500 touches for 2500 yds and 15 TDs........What should we do????

Please explain to me what is not special about 1800 yards. And before youy tell me this was the liner, keep in mind what Zach Martin said about green grass and making contact.

The idea he is not special just makes my head want to explode.

I think it clear to anyone who watches tape he is not special back. What he does really well is picking up the blitz and runs to daylight. His speed breaks down after 30 yards and is zero threat to take it to house. He is often injured player so far in his pro career. I think it would be huge miscalculation on Dallas part to cave into and pay him anything near Peterson money because its highly highly unlikely he is injury free with consecutive high work loads. Dallas needs fresh legs and they need to give Murray a hero departure.

Comparing Murray to Emmitt is ludicrous at this point.

1800 yards is special. The problem is, we're not paying an 1800 yard back. Odds are heavily against him ever repeating that performance again.

The only destination I want to read about for DeMarco Murray is in the Cowboys backfield. Stop being so darn stingy with the monies and pay the man! We are talking about going for the big time show next season and we need that dude to do it. Pay our boys Jerry! That's Dez and DeMarco and Free and whoever else we need to get this thing done!

Where are you getting that from? I'm not sure it's accurate.

Go through and look at their careers. Most had several great years with 350+ touches.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/rush_yds_single_season.htm

Barrier as described in the article was 370+, with the premise being of the article being that backs not named 'Dickerson' have a hard time at that level.

Murray last year had 436 carries, btw, when you include his postseason work.

Did you see post #51 above? There have been numerous backs that have gone well over 370 touches with no ill effects for years.

I understand that putting the franchise tag on Murray would be a lot of money. However, how bad would this route be if they franchise him, draft an RB and give that drafted RB 5 to 8 touches a game to see if he could be the guy the following year and let Murray go in free agency? It's a lot of money for the one year but I think there are plenty of RB's in this draft that could make this a possible route to take.
