I've always liked Spags. I think one can find out more about the team reading his column than watching the talking heads on ESPN or the NFL channel.

Shouldn't that be the case? The guy works for the team and devotes 40+ hours a week doing nothing but following the team. ESPN and NFL Network will send a correspondent out for a day or two and report back.

As far as what you find out, that's a wash. They all report the same stuff but only Spags can give you the info about what the players had for lunch.

He qualifies in my book. Basically anyone they pick up off the street, from other teams practice squads is what I was referring to. Not just others cuts on final cut day.

I guess. Not sure I would go that far. Ernie would still be at home had injuries not ravaged the defense. It wasn't a conscious effort to try and get better that involved cutting another player. It was a last ditch attempt at fielding enough players.

I think people get spoiled with all the coverage of the Cowboys. I remember when I used to have to rely on the sports section of my local paper. I think we're very lucky to have all the coverage, whether or not it is sometimes homerish, amateur, or downright awful.

He will be depth that plays on special teams. All franchises have them in case you haven't noticed.

Not true I have heard it here that every player on a SB caliber team is an All-Pro, was an All Pro, or will be an All Pro. It must be the truth because I head it on DZ.

What's upsetting to me is when you hear this team is going to make a move and you figure it's something that will really help the team. Time and time again you get disappointed by what eventually turns out to be not much of a big deal at all. I can't count the number of times we've heard of a move being made and it wound up being some guy we've never heard about.

Then, we get a glimmer of hope with Waters/Moore and they don't pan out, which seems to be typical with this team the past several years.

But we'll consistently overpay for players who have one good year or who are "fan favorites".

Special teams do matter. I just question if this player was special enough to trade for.

Asked.....

from his wiki-

Baltimore Ravens
Jones was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He filled a number of different roles as a Raven, including outside linebacker, defensive end, and tight end. His biggest contributions, however, came on special teams, where he established himself as one of their top special teams tacklers and blockers.

Kansas City Chiefs
Jones signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on July 29, 2012. He became one of the team's most valuable special teams players, leading the Chiefs with seven tackles and two fumbles recoveries on special teams, including one returned for his first NFL touchdown at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 14, 2012.

And answered.

Edgar Jones was slated to earn $715K.

We just negotiated Danny McCray down to $700K.

If they did, good for them. But funny how they can move their "ace" yet feel good about it, yet we bargain with our overpaid one to get him to stay.

Makin no sense there hot fuzz

Yeah well after you've devoted nearly an entire draft to it I have no faith that adding in individual pieces will fix anything for any prolonged period of time. It's a bandaid to a problem that should have been fixed by that draft.

When you get that Delorean running back to 2009 let us know. In the meantime there's a real game next week to prepare for

Well, we have recently cut 37 players, then had to make a trade to get a good special teams player. That would leave one to conclude good special teams players are hard to find, at least for the Cowboys.
