^ probably not, but blocking a trade, especially one that involved a third team is bull****. I don't care if New Orleans is owned by the NBA, this deal was more favorable than the Pau Gasol trade or the Vince Carter (Toronto to NJ) trade and just as fair as the Kevin Garnett deal.

Blocking it was a huge deal and unless the trade ultimately happens, a lot of fans will be pissed.

You must not be a basketball fan then.

Ha, you have no idea. I used to be a hard core NBA fan, (met my wife through the Mavericks) but the league's front office slowly killed it for me starting with the Kings / Lakers playoff series in 2002. I finally gave up the NBA in 2005.

I will say it was good to know that the did Mavs win a championship, but I didn't watch a single game of it. I hate that league.

Don't get the rancor over this trade, one way or the other.

The only reason the trade didn't happen is that the league owns the team. The owners don't want him traded to LA. Big deal. Other owners can nix trades their own front offices have worked out, except in this case, 29 other owners are involved. People are acting as though this is some sort of taint on the league, but since NO is involved, this is the only team this would really be an issue with.

The trade will eventually go through, or else Paul will go to LA next summer. Long-term, it really doesn't hurt the Lakers much. They'll still get him.

the reason why most of the fans, media, and even NBA front office personnel are pissed off is because of the sayin':

" There but for the grace of God go I "..

Today is the Lakers, tomorrow will be the your team.

Not to mention that nobody, absolutely NOBODY, likes a dictator and the commissioner is acting as if he was from North Korea and his last name is Jong-il

I really don't see how they can block this trade. It seems that all the teams are giving up and gaining something significant.

The fact that the Lakers got away with getting Gasol a few years ago for nothing may have something to do with it. Teams and fans griped about that for years---for good reason. There was most certainly some under the table deal going on with that one.

But this one...I don't see the issue.

Seems to me like the leauge is hell bent on ruining the Hornets to the point of just being able to drop them entirely out of the league.

They're forcing them to keep a guy who will simply walk next summer and they'll get nothing for him. Doesn't seem like a very fair way to treat the Hornets.

Now don't get me wrong here I couldn't care less if the Lakers can't have him this year. I find it hilarious that the Lakers, or any of their fans, would be getting angry over this only because I absolutely hate the Lakers. So anything that causes them any grief is hilarious to me.

This deal will get done eventually. The league, IMO, is opening up a huge can by doing this. Basically, you are inviting the Union and every Pro Union organization to come down on you like 10 ton of brick. It's fine. This only improves the Lakers position to acquire Howard. More pieces with which to work from. It helps the Lakers Cap situation as well because it gives them more time to restructure or move salaries. When Chris is an FA and if the Lakers have Howard, Paul is going to go to LA and they will not have to worry about giving up more talent. You could be faced with an LA team that still has a Gasol at PF and an Odom at SF, along with Kobe and Howard. The cap is not an issue for LA. If they decided to sign Paul and keep the rest they could. They would simply have to pay a luxury tax which they can swing with this new Cable deal they are closing. The money to support that kind of move would be available for them, if they decided that this is what they wanted to do. Either way, it's probably good for LA long term.

I think this deal will eventually go through.

Don't be surprised if Howard is not a Net by Monday.
He wants to go there and play on the big stage with Deron, the new arena opens next year in Brooklyn, and the Nets have a grreat trade pkg for Orlando (Lopez plus 2 1st rounders and willing to take Turkelu's bad contract)

I don't see how Houston benefits that much in this trade. They lose multiple players and a pick. I don't think gaining Gasol offsets what they are losing unless there is some saving in salary structure.

According to the Houston Chronicle:

The Rockets wanted to make the trade to plug in the 31-year-old Gasol, who has three years and $57 million remaining on his contract, at center to build around him and point guard Kyle Lowry. But with the trade, the Rockets would have had $11 million of cap space and could have as much as $16 million with an amnesty cut of their next highest-paid player, Hasheem Thabeet. They had based their free agent sales pitch to Nene on putting together a formidable front court with Gasol.

I would not be surprised but I will say that in an interview a couple days ago, down in Orlando (and really more of a comment in passing), Howard was asked where he thought he might go and if he had a favored team, his response was to sing: I Love L.A.

I don't know what that meant, if anything.

i hate the lakers, and i like the league screwing them over for a change, but i think that trade would have been horrible for them. CP3 is great when he is healthy, but most people forget how bad he was during the regular season (for his standards) he was wearing a massive brace on his knee and i think he is closer to brandon roy than derrick rose in terms of health. Most of all, there is no way the lakers could have gotten dwight howard if they make this trade. as a spurs fan, i hope this trade goes through

CP3 did have a bit of down year last year.
I think the lakers feel a real urgency to find a dominant point guard, now that they actually need one sans the triangle offense.

the reason the spurs have been abused by the lakers recently is their front court. if the lakers made this trade and didnt get dwight, i would have LOVED our chances vs them, we would have more depth, MUCH better coaching, and tony parker plays his best when playing elite PGs that people say are better than him "eevan tho theei dount ave eennee reeeengs" (that was my attempt at typing a french accent)

again, the grizz had the advantage in the spurs biggest weakness, frontcourt. but i guess you are just a blind lakers homer that doesnt understand basketball, just that your team should somehow get the leagues best players no matter what

:laugh2: @ you

The Lakers wouldn't trade for CP3 if they weren't getting Howard also. Also the Lakers will either get West or Okafor if CP3 deal goes through therefore front court isn't an issue. Spurs are DONE.
