how did he go from "could've played if it were regular season" last week to out the rest of the preseason. Not that it matters but if it wasn't serious last week, how all of a sudden it's serious?
I'm not sure either. Watching the sports tonight they listed several players around the league not playing again until the season opener.

He just wants to skip the rest of training camp/preseason.

Well, at least he has some time to rest it before the season starts. Not sure what's going on with Romo and his throwing arm, reportedly, being heavily iced. But they would both benefit from diminished play (or sitting out) in Minnesota. I'm okay with that as long as they're 100% or near that come the giants game.

it could be 1 of 3 things

1.) Newman told them he could play if this were the regular season

2.) optimism on Wade's part

3.) they're being cautious in not rushing him back

or 4.) further tests showed more damage than when initially screened

Why is everyone so stressed out here?

It's just meerly a STRAIN-sure, it's not chicken scratch, but a few days here and there of icing and stretching will do the trick for 9/09.

Everyone-CALM DOWN! It sounds like the DFW Airport just imploded from just the way everyone is reacting here.

I agree!! TNew is the last person I'm worried about being on the field on opening day. He's very reliable and consistent, he'll be there... Relax!!!

Got this info from the new Todd Archer article about Newman. Also if you're like me and most people, here's what "plantar fasciitis" is..

Definition

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation (irritation and swelling with presence of extra immune cells) of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot that causes heel pain and disability.

clear.gif

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

The plantar fascia is a very thick band of tissue that covers the bones on the bottom of the foot. This fascia can become inflamed and painful in some people, making walking more difficult.
Risk factors for plantar fasciitis include foot arch problems (both flat foot and high arches), obesity, sudden weight gain, running, and a tight Achilles tendon (the tendon connecting the calf muscles to the heel). A typical patient is an active man aged 40-70.
This condition is one of the most common orthopedic complaints relating to the foot.
Plantar fasciitis is commonly thought of as being caused by a heel spur, but research has found that this is not the case. On X-ray, heel spurs are seen commonly both in people with and without plantar fasciitis.

Treatment

Conservative treatment is almost always successful, given enough time. Duration of treatment can be anywhere from several months to 2 years before symptoms resolve, although about 90% of patients will be better in 9 months. :bang2:

All this info is the Ask.com site. I hope Newman has a very small case of this disorder because it definitely is an injury that lingers and now I'm a little more concerned. It's a very rare injury because it usually occurs in men from the age of 40-70.

We do not know that is what it is yet.

According to Archer's article HERE, it is. I hope he's wrong, I've had this before, and it sucks.

I think it really has widely differing levels of severity. In my case, I'd say it took 2-3 weeks to feel comfortable moving at any level above a jog (my achilles was super tight). It continued to bother me for several more weeks...but I didn't exactly have the Cowboy's medical staff working on me either.

The injury bug has really hit the NFCE this preseason.

Frankly, yeah, Newman's injury sux-but overall, I think we're still in the best shape of all NFCE teams. I'm happy.

Well that's hopeful then. If you combine the Cowboy medical staff and the amazing physical condition that Newman keeps himself in, hopefully we're looking at a fast recovery..

I remember Michael Finley had this a few years ago with the Mavericks and he played with it all year. They said he must be extremely tough, because it's super painful and he didn't miss any games. If you can tolerate the pain, I think you can play okay.

Maybe once a week he could stand it... I just hope it doesn't hurt his game too much.

Bobby Taylor played with this when he was with the Eagles. Its one of those deals that you can play with it but its real painful. I never had it but a person I know who had it told me once you warm it up its fine, its just when your done it hurts really bad for the rest of the week. Is that accurate for the people who had it.
