Current Enthusiasm Level?

I am looking forward to the 2026 draft. But I am losing enthusiasm for that as well. I think this will be a bad year for Dallas again.

What's the over-under for Schottenheimer getting fired?
I don't think Jerry style is to fire coaches early. My cowboys enthusiasm is just habit.

From the moment I set down to watch the first regular season game, my enthusiasm rachets up several notches.

Sure, I am excited about the draft and preseason. It's a bit like budding spring - anything is possible. The first game, though, is about what's change and about execution. It's often the first time we see all the starters on the field at the same time. You expect hiccups, but also expect to see a path forward.

I'm excited about football being back in general. Excited to see what type of progression we see out of the younger guys. I really found a lot of enjoyment rewatching games last year, probably more so than watching live, but yeah overall enthusiasm for the team is fairly low. I just see a limited ceiling for this team once again. Several offseason moves I really like, but it just feels like once again we are going with a band aid + hope approach at multiple positions. Getting back to the postseason and winning a wild card round game feels like a success for this team in 2025, where a couple years ago that felt like the minimum expectation.

A .500 season is about the worst win/loss record this team can have. Too low for the playoffs and way too high for a top 5 pick.

I am just curious how my die hard Cowboys friends are feeling about the current and longer term prospects of the Cowboys.

1. I am not approaching this year as “this is our year”. It does not seem to be, and it’s shaping up to not be our year this decade.

2. Dak is just good enough to get you to about a .500 team. He’s probably going to win enough to eliminate a good draft pick but not be good enough to press for a SB.

3. Dak’s salary is a huge albatross.

4. Parsons is a fabulous player but let’s be real. He’s not worthy of a QB cap hit. Love the player but trade him for more assets and cap relief.

5. I like Shotty in the longer term. I like him in the short term but he will make mistakes and this team cannot carry him.

6. About the only thing that gives me any hope of a .500 season is the WR corps and Blue and other rookie back.

7. DT still seems deficient.

8. Jerry is going to have to work really hard to get me to eat the cheese this year.

9. About all we have going for us this year is that expectations seem to be pretty low overall.
My enthusiasm?

I want the team to win but I get a modicum of enjoyment watching Dak and Jerry fail. So I’m looking forward to watching some games with no expectations.

Jerry still has a huge chunk from the 90's he is living off of.

We hear his stories all the time about from the past that has nothing to do with the questions being asked.

I think Shotty is going to remind everyone why he would not have sniffed another HC job.

I think the poor DTs will really hurt.

I think the Pickens, Bland, and Parsons contract situations will become distractions.

I think Guyton is going to be terrible so the tackle situation will be bad.

I think the schedule is pretty tough.

I think Diggs is going to be a big distraction.

I think the NFCE is no longer easy.

I think the Jones way is fully exposed now and it’s going to get worse.
I think you are possibly over thinking it too much. :muttley:
J/K

I think you may be right on some of these.

I am excited about the start of the season. I always am.
Not just to see how the season unfolds for the Cowboys, and all the changes.
But for the entire NFL in general.

It does not matter my expectations, as I am not expecting any miracles. But I will enjoy the progress of the coaching staff and younger players and the team.
Oh, I am sure some frustration will set in. But then we can start talking when do they tank for that better draft pick.

I can't say I am enthusiastic on having a great season. As I said, not expecting any miracles. But football is back, so time to enjoy the games.

Maybe they have a shot. It seems more like this team is going to "hang around the rim" of being .500 for a few seasons. Dallas doesn't rebuild so the next coach (or this one) is going to have to be a good team builder.

1 - 4 Yes.
5. The short term determines his long term. I will have no patience with him, if the short term results, this seaon, are a failure.
6. Hope and the "We'll see how it goes " is a far as I will commit.
7- 9 Yes.

I'll hand out gold medals to all of the team if they:
Surpass 9-8
Get a play off spot with 9-8 or better.

I will watch with hopefulness but don’t expect a playoff appearance. I have been conditioned for mediocre results from another poorly built team that has no depth. Just keep me interested until Thanksgiving at least :muttley:
Yeah, I just want them to be in the hunt until the end. If they can manage to steal a wildcard, I think that is overachieving for this roster and I would be thrilled.

It's about like last year. I'll always love football and football season, and I am curious to see how the new coaches and the new players do, but we don't have the roster to make any kind of real run. I like defense, and I'm afraid that's going to be very rough. Great chance with two of our three best corners hurt that our secondary is a disaster.

Thirty years of not establishing an all around solid defense other than maybe when Parcells was here, tells me all I need to know. The front office doesnt know how to build a real nfl team. They are only interested in getting enough fans to sell the tickets. So goes the the merry-go- round.
